The person with the most pinnies at the end wins. It's a simple game but it's a riot! We crash into each other and sometimes the pinnies go flying. I always end up laughing so hard my stomach hurts.Even though the games are fun and energetic, Mr. Johnson still maintains order. He has a super loud whistle that he blows to get our attention. When he blows it and puts his hands on his hips, we know we need to freeze in our spots and listen up. He reminds us of the rules before games and makes sure nobody is getting too rough or hurting each other. I'm pretty sure no other elementary school in our whole state has gadgets that awesome for gym class. Mr. Johnson must spend his entire personal fortune stocking up on that stuff!Honestly, the best times in PE are when we just get to go wild and aren't really playing any specific game. Mr. Johnson will take out all the jump ropes, hula hoops, frisbees, balls, and random toys and just let us run around like crazy people. It turns into a big giant recess where we get to make up our own activities and games. Those are the days where the most epic dodgeball wars or frisbee golf courses get invented. I've never seen a teacher just set kids loose to have pure unstructured funlike that. It's awesome and I have no idea how he gets away with it!Mr. Johnson doesn't just make PE fun though, he also really emphasizes good sportsmanship and being a team player. Whenever we're divided up into different teams or squads, he pulls us aside before the game and always says something like "Alright guys, no matter what team you're on today, you're all still Oakwood Eagles at heart. I want to see that Eagle pride and spirit out there! Play hard, play fair, and most importantly - HAVE FUN!" He gets us all pumped up to work together and support our teammates, even if we happen to be rivals on the field or court that day.If someone gets a little too competitive or cocky after scoring or winning, Mr. Johnson is really good about pulling them aside and giving them a pep talk calmly and patiently. I've never seen him flat-out yell or freak out on a kid for poor sportsmanship. But he turned it all down because he realized his true calling was shaping the lives of elementary schoolers and introducing them to the pure joy of athletics and carefree playtime.
