A(words:272&192)
Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can
crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants of a country. If tourists create too
much traffic, the inhabitants become annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to
treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy. It is
important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them.
Tourism should help a country, keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should
also advance the wealth and happiness of local inhabitants.
Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other
jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can
suffer.
On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also
lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first- class
roads, and other support facilities(配套设施)needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major
international class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this
room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel lose money.
Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including
roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support
facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money
are lost.
41.Which of the following do you think has been discussed in the part before this selection?

C. Support facilities are highly necessary. D. Planning is of great importance to tourism.
42.The underlined word“ inhabitants” (in Paragraph 1 ) probably means____________.
A. tourists B. passengers
C. population D. citizens
43.Too much tourism can cause all these problems EXCEPT ____________ .
A. a bad effect on other industries
B. a change of tourists’ customs
C. over-crowdedness of places of interest
D. pressure on traffic
44.It can be inferred from the text that _____________ .
A. the author doesn’t like tourism developing so fast
B. local people will benefit from tourist attraction
C. other parts of a country’s economy won’t benefit from tourism much
D. we can't build too many support facilities

Most adults find it hard to recall events from their first few years of life and now scientists have
found exactly when these childhood memories fade(消失).
A new study has found that most three-year-olds can recall a lot of what happened to them
over a year earlier, and these memories persist while they are five and six, but by the time they
are over seven, these memories decline(衰退) rapidly.
Most children by the age of eight or nine can only recall 35% of their experiences from under
the age of three, according to the new findings.
The scientists behind the research say this is because at around this age the way we form
memories begins to change. They say that before the age of seven children do not have a sense
of time and place in their memories. In older children, however, the early events they can recall

What does the author say in…?
According to the passage, where / when / why / how / who…? 第 2 页/共 22 页
What is the reason for…?
Which of the following is (NOT) true?
Which of the following is (NOT) mentioned?
The writer mentioned all of the following EXCEPT…
2. 推理推断题。这类题别仅考查考生对文章中某些句子字面意思的明白,而且还考查对句子间逻辑关系的明白、对事物进展结果的推导。这方面的出题多、难度大,考生可得小心。其提咨询的常用方式有:

Chinese scientists recently have produced two monkeys with the same gene, Zhong Zhong and
Hua Hua, using the same technique that gave us Dolly the sheep. These monkeys are not actually
the first primates(灵长类)to be cloned. Another one named Tetra was produced in the late
1990s by embryo(胚胎)splitting, the division of an early-stage embryo into two or four
separate cells to make clones. By contrast, they were each made by replacing an egg cell nucleus(原子核)with DNA from a differentiated body cell. This Dolly method, known as somatic cell
nuclear transfer(SCNT), can create more clones and allows researchers greater control over
the edits they make to the DNA.
Success came from adopting several new techniques. These included a new type of microscopy
to better view the cells during handling or using several materials that encourage cell

Average humans can consume 15 or more drinks in plastic bottles a month. If you were born
after 1978, and live until 80 years old, you will leave behind a minimum of 14,400 plastic bottles
on this planet. These bottles take hundreds of years to break down into tiny pieces of plastic,
never to completely disappear. Most of the waste is consumed by fish and birds, which has
shortened their lifetime greatly.
The Plastic Bottle Village is just a great idea that might finally save us from being buried in
plastic. It's a community in Panama that is going to be made of used bottles. The design process
begins with building steel frames, which are then filled with these bottles. Once this step is
complete, and electrical and plumbing (管道装置) lines are put inside, the plastic walls are

It was when I was walking to my office, trailed by three young people whose ages ranged from

Your teenage best friend could be good for your long-term mental health, according to a new
study published in the journal Child Development According to the findings, teenagers aged 15 to
16 who had a close friendship rather than a larger group of friends they were less close to had a
greater sense of self-worth by the time they were 25 years old. Those people with a very close
best friend were also less likely to experience depression and social anxiety, the study found.
"Close friendship strength in mid-adolescence predicted relative increases in self-worth and
decreases in anxiety and depressive symptoms by early adulthood, "the authors, led by Rachel K,
Narr, a postdoctoral student focused on clinical psychology at the University of Virginia, wrote.
A past research has suggested that adolescent friendships are important. Friendships during

The negative (负面的) health effects of sleep shortages during the week can't be changed by
marathon weekend sleep sessions, according to a new study.
Researchers have long known that routine sleep deprivation (缺乏) can cause weight gain and
increase other health risks, including diabetes. But there are still some people who hope that
shutting off the alarm on Saturday and Sunday will repay the weekly sleep debt and remove any
ill effects.
The research, published in Current Biology, ruins those hopes. Despite complete freedom to
sleep in and nap during a weekend recovery period, participants in a sleep laboratory who were
limited to five hours of sleep on weekdays gained nearly three pounds over two weeks and
experienced metabolic disruption (代谢紊乱) that would increase their risk for diabetes over the
