A[1] It happens countless times a day. A flower’s bright color and the smell of sweet nectar (花蜜) attract a bee. The bee stops by for a quick taste and small grains of pollen (the powder produced by a flower) stick to its body. The bee then travels to another flower of the same type and leaves the pollen as it has another meal. This is an example of animal pollination (授粉) — a process extremely important to plant reproduction.[2] It’s not only plants that depend on animal pollination — humans do, too. Worldwide, nearlya thousand plants that we grow for food, spices, clothing fibers, and medicine depend on it. If pollination suddenly stopped, we would have no apples, tomatoes, coffee, and many other goods.[3] This important process is carried out by more than 200,000 different animal species known as pollinators. Flies and beetles - the original pollinators - date back 130 million years to the first flowering plants. Birds, butterflies, and ants also do their part. Even nonflying mammals help out: monkeys tear open flowers with their hands, accidentally spreading pollen into the air and onto their fur.[4] Pollinators are therefore important, but they are also at risk. Climate change, habitat loss, and invasive predators (入侵捕食者) all threaten them. The United States, for example, has lost over 50 percent of its honeybees over the past ten years. A serious threat facing bees is colony collapse disorder, when worker bees mysteriously disappear from their colony. Scientists are still trying to identify its cause.[5] There is a quote attributed to Einstein that if bees ever disappeared, man would only have four years left to live. Whether that’s true or not does not really matter, says wildlife photographerLouie Schwartzberg: the key point is that there is a real danger. “The healthiest food we need to eat,” he says, “would disappear without pollinating plants. It’s pretty serious.”1. What might be left on flower B, as is shown in the picture?A. Nectar.B. Pollen.C. Leaves.D. Fur.2. What can be inferred from the text?A. Pollination means a lot to fruits and grains.B. Nearly a thousand plants depend on pollination.C. Monkeys are the only nonflying mammal pollinators.D. There are more than 20,000 different species of pollinators.3. What threat are honeybees faced with?A. Climate change.B. Habitat loss.C. Invasive predators.D. Colony collapse disorder.4. What does the underlined “a real danger” in the last paragraph refer to?A. Bees are disappearing.B. Humans can only survive 4 years.C. Food shortage is serious.D. No pollinating plants, no healthy food.5. Which might be the best title?A. The Importance of PollinatorsB. The Creator of NatureC. The Wonder of ReproductionD. The Secret Life of Bees【答案】1. B 2. A 3. D 4. D 5.

由第一段中的“he bee stops by for a quick taste and small grains of pollen (the powder produced by a flower) stick to its body. The bee then travels to another flower of the same type and leaves the pollen as it has another meal.”(蜜蜂停下来快速尝一尝,小粒花粉(花朵产生的粉末)黏在的身体上。
由第二段中的“Worldwide, nearly a thousand plants that we grow for food, spices, clothing fibers, and medicine depend on it. If pollination suddenly stopped, we would have no apples, tomatoes, coffee, and many other goods.”(在世界范围内,我们种植的用于食品、香料、服装纤维和医药的近千种植物都依赖于授粉。
故选A项。
由第四段中的“A serious threat facing bees is colony collapse disorder, when worker bees mysteriously disappear from their colony.”(蜜蜂面临的一个严重威胁是蜂群崩溃失调,工蜂会神秘地从蜂群中消失。
由第五段中的“Whether that’s true or not does not really matter, says wildlife photographer Louie Schwartzberg: the key point is that there is a real danger. “The healthiest food we need to eat,” he says, “would disappear without pollinating plants. It’s pretty serious.””(野生动物摄影师路易·施瓦茨伯格说:不管那是真是假并不重要,关键是存在真正的危险。
“我们需要吃的最健康的食物,”他说,“如果不给植物授粉,它们就会消失。
这很严重。
”),可知,a real danger(真正的危险)指的是“没有授粉植物,没有健康的食物”。
故选D项。
【5题详解】主旨大意题。
由第二段首句“It’s not only plants that depend on animal pollination — humans do, too.”(赖动物授粉的不仅是植物,人类也是。
)第四段首句“Pollinators are therefore important, but they are also at risk.”(因此,传粉者很重要,但它们也处于危险之中。
)和第五段“There is a quote attributed to Einstein that if bees ever disappeared, man would only have four years left to live. Whether that’s true or not does not really matter, says wildlife photographer Louie Schwartzberg: the key point is that there is a real danger. “The healthiest food we need to eat,” he says, “would disappear without pollinating plants. It’s pretty serious.””(爱因斯坦有句名言,如果蜜蜂消失了,人类只剩下四年的寿命。

辽宁省师范大学附属中学2019-2020学年高一英语下学期期末考试试题考试时间:100分钟满分:120分第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)第一节(共15小题,每题2.5分,满分37.5分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项A、B、C和D中,选出最佳选项。
AThere are thirty-four bridges on the Thames River in London, the following are among the most famous ones.Tower BridgeTower Bridge has stood over the River Thames in London since 1894 and is one of the finest, most recognizable bridges in the world. It is the bridge in London you may see in movies and on advertising writing for London. Tower Bridge is the only Thames Bridge that can be raised. It used to be raised about 50 times a day, but nowadays it is only raised 4 to 5 times a week.London BridgeThe construction of the first stone London Bridge started in 1176 and finished years later. Houses and shops were once built on the bridge, which made the road so narrow that it was often jammed with people, horses and carts.A 'keep left' rule was made in 1733 to keep the traffic moving. This became the rule of the road in Britain. In 1757 the old bridge was pulled down and a new one was built in 1831. Interestingly, that one was pulled down again in 1967 but rebuilt in Lake Havasu City,USA,as a tourist attraction. The present London Bridge was opened in 1973.Millennium BridgeThe Millennium Bridge is a bridge for walkers. It was built to connect the Tate Modern Art Gallery to the City and St Paul's Cathedral (圣保罗大教堂) in 2000. Thousands of people rushed to see the new bridge. Almost immediately after opening, the bridge had to be shut because of the dangerous waving caused by too many visitors. It has now been reopened. The bridge is about 320 meters, costs 16 million pounds to build and only takes walkers.Westminster BridgeWestminster Bridge is a road and foot traffic bridge over the River Thames between Westminster and Lambeth. The present bridge, opened in 1862,is the second on the site and took the place of an earlier bridge opened in 1750.The British romantic poet, William Wordsworth, wrote a famous poem "Composed Upon Westminster Bridge" in the autumn of 1802.Want to know more about the bridges on the Thames River? But his study came to a stop at 23 after he hurt his hand in an unpleasant event. He developed schizophrenia (精神分裂症) later and spent many years without a home.Carter liked to spend time around UT, because he dreamt of being able to continue his study in the university and becoming a writer. After running into Carter many times, UT student Ryan Chandler decided to interview him for an assignment for the Daily Texan, the student newspaper of UT."I interviewed him on Austin's homeless problems. After I heard his story, we kept in touch and really became friends. I learned he wanted to get back to UT, so I decided to help him," said Chandler." He had got 87 hours, very close to a degree. Now, with changing degree requirements, he only has 64 hours to go."With the help of Chandler, who worked with the university office, Carter was assigned an adviser by UT's College of Fine Arts. "It's the greatest gift I've ever received," Carter said. "He did what had to be done to get me back to school, and I couldn't have done it without him."After seeing a magazine article about Carter, a UT schoolmate decided to pay his tuition fees without telling Chandler his name.Doug Dempster, dean of the College of Fine Arts, said in a statement. "David Carter's decision to complete his degree is a testament (证明) to finishing well what was started, and stopped, even many years earlier. We welcome him back as we do many students each year whose education could not be completed easily. We're going to help him through his remaining course work."4. From smart-home security to self-driving cars, all the Internet-connected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at lightning-fast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the U. S. top out at an average of 19.42 Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit (千兆) speeds."5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age," said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. "The self-driving vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one singletask, driving, you have massive amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It's pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure (基础设施) construction. There's lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speed."Augmented reality(AR) glasses and virtual headset haven't yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting that these devices will eventually replace our smartphones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable (值得注意的) because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist — or perhaps even replace — smartphones.Ericsson stated at February's Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could rely on hardware for processing power. But don't get too excited. There's still a lot of work to be done in the meantime includingvarious trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn't concentrated only in big cities.8. What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 1?A. The lighting-fast speed of 5G.B. The expectation of 5G world.C. The difference between 4G and 5G.D. The internet-connected devices in our life.9. What does the underlined word "emblem" in Paragraph 2 mean?A. Exhibition.B. Success.C. Symbol.D. Extension.10. Tech companies will face the fact that smartphones may be replaced11. What will the author probably tell us next?A. How to fully expand 5G coverage.B. Smart glasses will become faster and lighter.C. Why 5G isn't concentrated in big cities.D. The importance of infrastructure construction.DSome people will do just about anything to save money. And I am one of them. Take my family's last vacation. It was my six-year-old son's winter break from school, and we were heading home from Fort Lauderdale after a weeklong trip. The flight was overbooked, and Delta, the airline, offered us $400 per person in credits to give up our seats and leave the next day. I had meetings in New York, so I had to get back. But that didn't mean my husband and my son couldn't stay.I took my nine-month-old and took off for home. The next day, my husband and son were offered more credits to take an even later flight. Yes, I encouraged—okay, ordered—them to wait it out at the airport, to "earn" more Delta Dollars. Our total take: $1,600. Not bad, huh?Now some people may think I'm a bad mother and not such a great wife either. But as a big-time bargain hunter, I know the value of a dollar. And these days, a good deal is something few of us can afford to pass up.I've made a living looking for the best deals and exposing the worst tricks.I have been the consumer reporter of NBC's Today show for over a decade. I have written a couple of books including one titled Tricks of the Trade: A Consumer Survival Guide. And I really do what I believe in.I tell you this because there is no shame in getting your money's worth. I'm also tightfisted when it comes to shoes, clothes for my children, and expensive restaurants. But I wouldn't hesitate to spend on a good haircut. It keeps its shape longer, and it's the first thing people notice. And I will also spend on a classic piece of furniture. Quality lasts.12. Why did Delta give the author's family credits?A. They had early bookings.B. They took a later flight.C. Their flight had been delayed.D. Their flight had been cancelled.13. What can we learn about the author?A. She rarely misses a good deal.B. She's a media person.D. She's a businesswoman.15. What does the author want to tell us?A. How to expose bad tricks.B. How to reserve airline seats.C. How to make a business deal.D. How to spend money wisely.

Fine particle pollution declined rapidly following the new rules on industrial emissions and the promotion of cleanfuels, according to the study, published on Monday in the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. The study, which focused on the period from 2013-2017, was conducted by a group of Chinese researchers and scientists.PM2.5, as this kind of pollution is known, is so small that it can enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to cancer, stroke and heart attack in the long term. After rapid industrialization and weak regulations left the country with a reputation for smog and bad air quality, Chinese authorities started to take air pollution seriously in 2008.In 2013, Beijing had PM2.5 concentrations 40 times higher than levels recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the governmentintroduced its toughest-ever clean air policies that year. The study found “signif icant declines” in PM2.5 levels across China from 2013-2017, with new standards for thermal power plants and industrial boilers, the replacement of old factories, and new emissions rules for vehicles. The authors say this “confirms the effectiveness of Chi na’s recent clean air actions.”These recent actions have seen Beijing fall out of the top 100 most-polluted cities in Asia in recent years, with the pollution levels 10% lower across Chinese cities between 2017 and 2018, according to a report by Greenpeace and AirVisual. Shanghai, the country’s largest city and financial capital, has also made environmental advances, such as adopting strict recycling regulations. Public pressure has been the driving force of pollution policy in China.Air pollution is a global issue, and India is now home to 22 of the 30 most polluted world cities, according to the Greenpeace and AirVisual report. In the US, a recent study said air pollutionwas linked to more than 107,000 deaths in 2011 and cost the country $866 billion.8. What saved many lives in China?A. China’s clean air policies.B. The increased particle pollution.C. The study by researchers.D. The reduction of the clean fuels.9. Why did PM2.5 cause many diseases?A. It was called smog.B. It made the air cleaner.C. Now blind box toys are bringing the magic of surprise to online shopping.A blind box toy is hidden inside uniform packaging(包装) butinvisible from the outside. You don’t know what will be inside, although the toys typically come from pop culture, ranging from movies to comics and cartoons.Blind boxes have caught on since they were first introduced from Japan to China in 2014. Most customers for blind boxes are young people aged 18 to 35.According to The Paper, blind box toys are popular in part because of their cute appearances. The typically cute cartoon figurines (小塑像) come in miniature (微型的) sizes, making them suitable for display almost anywhere.Even if blind boxes are not their top choice for decorations(装饰品), the mystery and uncertainty of the process also attracts people. It’s the main reason why people buy blind boxes one after another.“Fear of the unknown is always a part of the box-opening process,” said Miss Cao, 24, who lives and works in Shenyang. Speaking to Sina News, she said: “Until you open all the boxes, you cannot know what it is inside.”Opening a blind box is a delightful little surprise for our mundane daily lives, something small but fun to wait for each day, week or month. When people open this simple little box, they may be disappointed, but the uncertainty is part of the fun. It has been run by one-time police officer Keith Tordoff for more than 20 years. But now the former officer is set to leave behind his old-fashioned sweet jars. And, if police are quite different from sweets, the 63-year-old officer is convinced that he can be equally effective leading the emergency services.“I’ve a proven track record (可靠的工作业绩) in succeeding and completing at the things I set out to do,”he told The Independent. “I know first-hand about policing and first-hand about managing successful organisations, which are the exact qualities needed.”“It’s not been an easy decision to make,” said Mr. Tordoff. “Running this shop has been a joy. My parents brought me here for sweets when I was a boy, so getting the chance to buy it and then run it with my wife and our son was a dream that had come true.”“People are fascinated by it. And why wouldn’t they be? We all love sweets, don’t we? I give talks about sweets in my spare time. I’m always asked what our most popular kind is. And the answer? Rhubarb and custard,” he says. “You see, you t hink they’re old-fashioned, but what happens is that grandparents come in, buy their grandchildren what they used to have themselves, and then the kids fall in love with them, too.” It’s the same with chocolate mice and pear drops, too, apparently. He hopes to sell the shop —which was recognized in 2014 by Guinness World Records —for £399,000.8. In 2012, we heard this term again to describe the year’s closest full moon on May 6, 2012. Supermoons also appeared in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019.What does “supermoon” mean exactly? And how special was the March 19, 2011 supermoon? The word “supermoon” didn’t come from astronomy. Instead, it came from astrology (占星学). In 1979, astrologer Richard Nolle defined it as a new or full moon which occurs at or near its closest point to the earth in its orbit. In short, the earth, moon and sun are all in a line, with the moon at its nearest point to the earth. And the full moon of March 19, 2011 was the largest moon of that year. This “supermoon” was at perigee (近地点) —its closest point to the earth in its orbit. It was bigger and brighter than other full moons of 2011. Astronomers call this sort of close full moon a perigee full moon. That doesn’t sound very special, does it? In fact, the March 2011 full moon lined up much more closely with perigee than Nolle’s original definition. But were you able to notice with your eyes alone that this full moon was bigger or brighter than usual? Astronomers said no. But it was fun to stand outside under this full moon and know that the moon was closer than ever.In 2019, there were three supermoons. The first supermoon of 2019 was the Super Blood Wolf Moon on January 21, which occurred with a total lunar eclipse (月全食) at the same time, also known as a “blood moon”. The second supermoon of 2019 was on February 19, also called the Snow Moon, which was the closest full moon of the year. The third and final supermoon of 2019, known by Native Americans as the Worm Moon, occurred on March 21. It fell on the day of the vernal equinox (春分), which signals the end of winter and the beginning of spring.12. What type of moon is a “supermoon”?A. A full moon.B. A new moon.C. A full moon at perigee.D. Any full moon in 2011.13. What do we know about the supermoon of March 2011?A. It was the first full moon in 2011.B. It was in the closest orbit to the sun.C. It was brighter than any other full moon in 2011.D. It was at its furthest point from the earth.14. What can we learn from the underlined sentences in the fifth paragraph about a supermoon and an ordinary full moon?A. They can appear in the sky at the same time.B. Only astronomers can see them.C. The supermoon is as large as an ordinary full moon.D. People can’t tell the difference between them with the naked eye.15. The third supermoon of 2019 __________.A. was called the Super Blood Wolf MoonB. was the closest full moon of the yearC. was found by Native Americans firstD. occurred on the day of the vernal equinox第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
