《中国翻译词典》评介陈 菲 1997年11月,人们期待已久的《中国翻译词典》(以下简称《词典》)终于与我国读者见面了,这是译界的一件大事。
自从1978年改革开放以来,书坊上陆续出版了一些有关翻译理论、翻译技巧、翻译史、翻译人物与翻译评论等方面的书籍,在一定程度上解决了读者的需要,但仍然缺乏一种从全方位介绍翻译诸多方面知识、而且学术份量较重的综合性工具书。
《词典》的问世可说填补了这项空白,部分地满足了读者的需求。
《词典》(主编林煌天,副主编为陈彦田与袁锦翔)始编于1992年,经过许多专家学者六年的努力,最终由湖北教育出版社出版。
书中收词目3700余条,共245万字,1300多页(16开本)。
书的首部刊有季羡林、叶君健、叶水夫、韩素音等名家的序与贺信,以及词目音序表。
词目分综合条目与百家论翻译两大部分,正文后有7个附录:中国翻译大事记、外国翻译大事记、中国文学作品书名汉英对照目录(部分)、外国文学名著书名外汉对照目录(部分)、中国当代翻译论文索引、世界著名电影片名英汉对照索引、联合国及有关国际组织、职务和职称,国际文献与条约译名录。
书后有词目首字笔画索引。
其中综合条目是重头戏,收录了有关翻译理论、翻译技巧与术语、翻译人物、翻译史话、翻译知识、翻译与文化交流、翻译论著、翻译社团与出版机构等方面的条目。
该书涵盖广阔、阐述精要,说它是我国翻译界第一部全面介绍翻译知识的大型百科式工具书、参考书,并不为过。
首先,《词典》大力贯彻了推陈出新的方针。
它以大量篇幅展示我国传统的翻译理论与经验,介绍我国上下两千年的翻译史与主要翻译人物。
关于翻译的定义与性质、翻译标准、翻译思维、风格学等等词目都有简要的叙述。
书中分别评介了我国不同时期重要的翻译典籍,如[梁]僧的《出三藏记集》、[梁]慧皎的《高僧传》与[唐]智癉的《开元释教录》。
我国译史上重要的名论,如彦琮的《辩证论》、周敦义的《翻译名义序》、严复的《〈天演论〉译例言》、梁启超的《论译书》、鲁迅的《“题未定”草》、茅盾的《为发展文学翻译事业和提高翻译质量而奋斗》等篇也在不同的词条里得到了扼要的反映。

【摘要】英汉双语词典和双解词典的明显区别在于释义及其它微观结构上,前者以汉语为注释语,而后者以英语为注释语并加上汉语对应词。
此外,两者在标注、例证、插图和附录的差异使其语用功能也有所不同。
文章运用社会认知主义观点,以国内
出版的有代表性的10部英汉双语词典和双解词典为例,就两种词典的微观结构作比较研究,揭示两种词典的外语教育作用,提高词典的社会效益和经济效益,使用者在选择和使用词典时的目的性更高。

谈双语词典附录

【摘 要】本文旨在对附录的定义、种类、作用及其原则方面对附录进行初步探讨,并对附
录的相关问题提出观点和看法。同时,就本文所探讨的问题,兼评《英汉汉英大词典》的附录设
置。

一、附录的定义及其种类
附录可以从广义和狭义两方面来理解。杨祖希将附录的定义分为三种:(1)指图书(包括工具
书)中文以外的所有一切组成部分。(2)指图书中除正文,前言,后记,凡例,词目以外的各种参考资
料,查检索引等。(3)与第二种理解基本相同,但不包括查检索引在内。胡名扬认为,附录是“词典
里除正文,序言,凡例等以外附加进来的一些参考资料或参考表格,它实际是词典内容的引申,一些
没有收进词典文正文但估计到读者有可能经常查检的常识性材料都可以附录的形式列入词典里
来”。他从狭义方面来定义附录的。本文所讨论的词典附录是从狭义上来理解的。
附录可以从内容上分为语文附录和百科附录两大类。
二、附录的作用
(1)词典附录可以扩充正文内容、增加词典信息量。 《柯林斯英语学习词典》(英语版)(以
下简称《柯》)正文没有把国家名称列在其中。其附录便承担了此项工作。
(2)词典附录可以对词典中的正文进行概括,使词典正文条目系统化、条理化。《朗文高阶
英汉双解词典》的附录中设有不规则动词表,将英语中常见不规则动词的曲折变化形式按字母
顺序列举、归纳出来,方便了读者查找。
(3)附录可以帮助读者查检索引。《朗文简明英语联想活用词典》中,就有60页的查检索引,
占总页数的6%。

(4)附录还可以对正文内容起纠谬补遗的作用。词典正式出版时不可避免存在一些内容上
的错误或已过时的信息。重新修改正文费时费力。词典附录应运而生。
三、附录设置的原则
(1)必要性。双语词典中,若正文无法编入或无法完全编入的知识信息或资料,并且这些信息
或资料是与正文内容关系十分密切而且又是读者必需的,就有必要设置附录。
(2)实用性。双语词典的附录既然是“附”于正文的,就不能太滥。《英汉大词典》(第二
版)(以下简称《英汉二版》的附录中,附录七和附录八欠妥。它们分别是日本语假名罗马字拼音
表和常见日本人姓名拉丁字母拼写法。《英汉二版》是一本以英语为主的词典,收录日本名则
不实用。
(3)准确性。准确性指双语词典的附录对术语、数据、标准、图表、时间要做到绝对准
确。
(4)时效性。即双语词典附录要与时俱进,不断创新。如《综合英汉文科大词典》的《因特
网英、美、加、澳、新语言与文化网址一览表》。
(5)语用性。词典学家们已渐渐意识到语用信息在词典中的重要性,开始在有关条目中用各
种方式增加语用信息。《郎文当代英语词典》的附录设置了一些语用附录,包括如何称呼、道
歉、批评、赞扬等内容。
四、兼评《英汉汉英大词典》的附录设置
《英汉汉英大词典》(以下简称《英汉汉英》)是一部为满足广大英语爱好者、学生、以及
初中级水平的英语学习者的需要所编写的。其附录包括:英汉词典的附录和汉英词典的附录。
笔者将从宏观和微观两方面评析《英汉汉英》的附录设置。
宏观上,《英汉汉英》的附录与词典的性质相一致。其附录也有不足之处。在前言中,编者
讲道,“一般词典都把地名作为附录的一部分,但这样就有一个缺点,即其形容词形式在附录中无
法体现,鉴于这点,本词典把地名单做词条收入词典正文,以便更好地体现其形容词形式,利于读者
查找和掌握。”把地名单个散于词典正文,有悖于附录的作用。

微观上,笔者将逐一分析:
第一部分是英语不规则动词表。《英汉汉英》的读者群主要是英语学习者。附录中设有英
语不规则动词表。在罗列完英语不规则动词后,《英汉汉英》进行了标注:“*表示仅在某些词义
才使的不规则形式”,这提醒读者,在看到“*”事要特别注意。在列举不规则动词时,《英汉汉英》
还特别标注:〈尤英〉,〈尤美〉,〈英〉,〈美〉等,这使读者能清楚地了解该词运用的场合。
第二部分是英语普通人名表。这在大多数双语词典特别是语文型词典中都能看到。人名表
也是词典附录的一部分。《英汉汉英》附录收录英语普通人名实属应当。
第三部分是国际单位制表。此附录中的国际单位只是泛泛而谈。此附录中的最后一部分为
“词冠”部分,即“前缀”,如“10”的词冠是“deca-的词冠为“exa-”。词冠部分不实用。
应添加国际单位换算,去掉词冠部分。同时,编者应将常用词的词缀编入附录,如“pre-”“dis-”“-ful”
等。
第四部分是英、美军衔表。一般的词典附录中都会包含英、美军衔。此附录也已介绍得非
常详细。英美军衔表的设置对英美军事感兴趣的英语学习者来说是有百益而无害的。
在汉英词典部分的附录中,第一部分是世界各国家、地区、首都(或首府)及货币名称表。然
而,既然编者认为附录中无法体现地名的形容词形式,并且在前言中也讲道本词典将地名收录到
词典正文中,为何在此附录中又罗列?
最后一部分是联合国组织。这部分虽然新颖,但可用性不大。可增添一些与奥运有关的内
容,如奥运举办国家,城市等。
此外,笔者认为《英汉汉英》附录应当增加以下部分:
(1)英语发音,音标。
(2)词缀。附录中单独列出词的前缀、后缀,能够方便读者在查找词时联系到其他与之相关
的词,增加读者的词汇量。
(3)词频。通过运用语料库,将收录的词按照使用频率分类,由高到低。最高词频为“”,其次是
“◇”,依此类推。这样就能方便读者的使用和学习。
(4)语用信息。若在词典附录中增加一些语用信息,如道歉,问候,感谢等,势必会对读者有所
帮助。
