Is Thrift Still a Good Virtue?
With the improvement of the living standards, many people are no longer interested in the
simple life style and some of them even feel ashamed to be thrifty. What they pursue is the latest
fashion. In their eyes, thrift is already out of style.
However, still other people insist that thrift is a good virtue. They say that the strong power
of production doesn’t mean that we are supposed to a live a luxurious life, because our natural
resources are limited and some of them even are on the decline. Moreover, they hold that waste
may lead to degradation of social atmosphere and environmental pollution as well.
As to me, I prefer the latter opinion. I believe “Waste not, want not.” The truth of this
saying is not to give up comfort but to enhance efficiency. In fact, economic growth depends
enormously on saving. Besides, there are still millions of Chinese living under poverty line. We
can never afford reckless waste. Therefore, it is no doubt that thrift is still a good virtue that we
should not give up.

Title: The Virtues of Thrift and Diligence.
In the ancient Chinese culture, thrift and diligence
were highly esteemed virtues that were passed down through
generations. These virtues were not merely a set of moral
guidelines, but a way of life that instilled values of
responsibility, sustainability, and hard work. Even in
today's modern world, where technology and conveniences
abound, the principles of thrift and diligence remain as
relevant as ever.
Thrift, often synonymous with frugality, is the
practice of being careful with one's resources and avoiding
waste. It does not mean living a miserly life, but rather
making wise choices and managing one's finances responsibly.
Thriftiness in daily life can be seen in small actions such
as turning off lights when not in use, repairing broken

Thrift and frugality are virtues that have been extolled throughout
history in various cultures and civilizations. These values emphasize
the importance of prudent and efficient use of resources, whether
financial, material, or even time and energy. In a world where
consumerism and excess often take center stage, the principles of
thrift and frugality serve as a counterbalance, promoting a more
sustainable and responsible approach to living.
At the heart of thrift and frugality lies the recognition that resources,
whether personal or global, are finite and should be utilized with
care and consideration. This mindset encourages individuals to
prioritize needs over wants, to seek value over novelty, and to find
creative ways to stretch limited resources to their fullest potential. By
embracing these principles, we can not only improve our own

Being thrifty and frugal is an important value that I
have always been taught to uphold. It is not just about
saving money, but also about being mindful of our resources
and reducing waste. I remember when I was a child, my
parents would always remind me to turn off the lights when
I leave a room, to not waste food, and to repair things
instead of always buying new ones.
I have carried these lessons with me into adulthood,
and I try to be as thrifty and frugal as I can be. For
example, I always make a shopping list before going to the
grocery store to avoid impulse purchases. I also try to buy
things second-hand or borrow from friends when I can,
instead of always buying brand new items.
Another way I practice thriftiness is by being mindful
of my energy and water usage. I make sure to turn off appliances when they are not in use, and I take shorter

the preservation of our planet.

As the famous saying goes, "waste not, want not." This
is a simple yet powerful message that emphasizes the
importance of being thrifty and frugal in our daily lives.
In today's world, where resources are becoming increasingly
scarce, it is more important than ever to adopt a mindset
of diligence, thrift, and conservation.
One of the most effective ways to practice diligence,
thrift, and conservation is by being mindful of our
consumption habits. This means taking a closer look at how
we use resources such as water, electricity, and food, and
finding ways to reduce waste. For example, we can conserve
water by taking shorter showers, fixing leaky faucets, and
using a watering can instead of a hose to water plants. We
can save electricity by turning off lights and appliances
when we're not using them, and by choosing energy-efficient

The Necessity of Diligence, Frugality and Conservation。
Diligence, frugality and conservation are three
important values that have been deeply rooted in Chinese
culture for thousands of years. As the world becomes more
interconnected and globalized, these values are becoming
increasingly important for people all around the world.
Firstly, diligence is the key to success. In order to
achieve our goals, we must work hard and put in the effort.
Without diligence, we will not be able to achieve our full
potential and will fall behind in our personal and
professional lives. Diligence also helps us to develop a
strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility.
Secondly, frugality is important for personal financial
management. In today's consumerist society, it is easy to
fall into the trap of overspending and accumulating debt.

In the fast-paced and often wasteful world we live in,
the importance of thrift and savings cannot be overstated.
The concept of thrift is deeply rooted in the cultural
traditions of China, where it is believed that every penny
saved is a penny earned. This belief extends beyond mere
financial gain, encompassing the ethical and moral values
of respecting resources and minimizing waste.
Starting with me, I strive to embody the spirit of
thrift in every aspect of my life. At home, I am diligent
in turning off lights and fans when not in use, conserving
both electricity and natural resources. When shopping, I am
mindful of purchasing only what I truly need, avoiding
impulse buys that often lead to unnecessary waste.
Furthermore, I make it a point to repair broken items
rather than discarding them prematurely,延长它们的使用寿命并减少垃圾产生。

I do not like such men as spend their money in a wrong way.
They do not know extravagance is a bad thing.
It can only make them happy for the time being.
In short, thrift makes poor men rich and extravagance makes

In today's world, where consumerism often reigns
supreme, the virtues of thriftiness and frugality are
sometimes overlooked. However, these qualities hold
significant importance not only for individual financial
stability but also for the well-being of society as a whole.
First and foremost, practicing thriftiness and
