My name is Lily and I'm a student in 3rd grade. Today I'm going to tell you about the test we just had on Unit 2 of our English textbook. Get ready, because it was really long!Part I: Listening (20 points)The first part was listening. Our teacher played an audio recording and we had to listen carefully and answer some questions.First there were some simple dialogues between kids. We had to circle the correct picture that matched what they were saying. Like one kid said "I have a red ball" and we circled the picture of the red ball.Then there was a story about a family going to the park. We had to tick the boxes if the sentence was true or false based on the story. Some were tricky! The story said they had a picnic but one question asked if they had hot dogs and I didn't hear that part.After that was the hardest - we had to fill in the blanks to complete sentences from the recording. I missed a couple of those because the audio wasn't very clear.Part II: Phonics (10 points)Next was the phonics section. We had to identify words with certain letter combinations and sounds. Like finding words with "ight" like "light" and "night".We also had to separate words into syllables by drawing slashes between the parts. "Beau-ti-ful" and "com-pu-ter". That helps us read longer words.Part III: Reading (30 points)Then came the reading part, which was my favorite. First there was a short passage about a girl and her pet dog. We had to answer some comprehension questions about the main idea and details.After that was a longer story about two friends going camping. This story had a lot of new vocabulary words highlighted. We had to match those words to their definitions based on the context.The last reading section had us put sentences in order to make a full story. We had to use the transition words like "first", "then", "after that" to figure out the right sequence.Part IV: Writing (20 points)Writing is always the hardest part for me. First we had to look at some pictures and write sentences describing what we saw happening.Then we had to write a short paragraph about our favorite game or sport. We learned transition words like "also" and "for example" to connect our sentences.Part V: Grammar (20 points)For grammar, we had to identify parts of speech in sentences - like nouns, verbs, adjectives. We circled the verbs and underlined the adjectives.There were also sentences with blanks, and we had to choose the right verb tense to fill in the blank. Like simple past "jumped" or past progressive "was jumping".Lastly, we had to rewrite some sentences, changing the subject from "he" to "they" and making the verbs plural. "He kicks" became "They kick".Phew, that was a really long test! I think the writing and grammar parts were the most difficult for me. But studying hard with classmates helped a lot. We checked our answers together after and learned from our mistakes.Tests are no fun, but they help us practice all the English we've learned. I'm already looking forward to the next unit! It was hilarious!After language arts was lunchtime in the cafeteria. I ate the yummy chicken nuggets, broccoli, and a chocolate milk carton. My best friend Jessica sat with me and we chatted about our favorite Disney movies and which princesses are the best. Jessica thinks Belle is the best but I'm more of a Rapunzel fan myself.With our bellies full, it was time for my favorite class of the whole day - art with Mr. Matthews! I just love art so much. We were working on a watercolor painting project of painting flowers. I chose to make a big beautiful sunflower as my subject. While we painted, Mr. Matthews had calm classical music playing. It was so relaxing and fun.When art was over, we had one more class before the end of the day - science. In science, we learned about the life cycle ofbutterflies. We even got to see some real caterpillars in a tank that would eventually form chrysalides and become butterflies! I thought that was so neat.Finally, the school day was done at 3:00pm. I packed up my backpack, said goodbye to Mrs. Robinson and my friends, and walked back home with Tom. We got home and had some yummy snacks - an apple with peanut butter for me. I spent the rest of the afternoon playing outside on my swingset and with my dolls. I read a few chapters of my favorite book before Mom called me in for dinner.After my bath, I got in my cozy pajamas, brushed my teeth, and did my homework - just a worksheet on verb tenses. Once that was done, I was free to relax before bedtime. I watched a little TV and played with Oscar the cat.Before I knew it, it was time for bed at 8:30pm. I was pretty tired after such a fun-filled day! Mom tucked me in, I snuggled up with my stuffed bear, and drifted off to sleep thinking about all the great things that happened at school that day. I can't wait to go back tomorrow and learn and have fun all over again. Being a third grader is the best!。
