For dinner that night, my parents and I went to an open-air restaurant right on the beach. It was sleeping and looked so peaceful cuddled up in the branches. The horseback riding was tiring but so much fun.After two amazing trips, I thought summer vacation couldn't get any better. But then my mom signed me up for a bunch of really cool day camps and activities! One week I did theatre camp, where I got to perform in a play about pirates looking for buried treasure. We saw kangaroos, wombats, possums, and even wild camels! There were so many bright stars out there with no city lights.On another day, we went on a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the desert. Floating up above the red sand dunes and rocky landscape was amazing. The views went on forever in every direction. It felt like I was in a totally different world.My favorite part though was getting to explore the Australian Outback by ATVs and motorbikes! We ripped across the sandy desert and red dirt roads going super fast with the dusty wind in our faces. The landscape looked like the pictures of Mars I've seen, with huge bright red rocks and canyons everywhere. We visited cabins where aboriginal people used to live and saw their ancient cave paintings too. I felt like a real explorer!After the Outback, we flew to Queensland again and relaxed at some beautiful beach resorts. I spent my days swimming, snorkeling, building sandcastles, and looking for seashells andcoral. The oceans in Australia were incredible shades of blue I had never seen before.We finished our trip at the famous Australia Zoo run by the Irwin family. I got to see crocodiles, snakes, and even pet a kangaroo! There was a zookeeper who swam and wrestled with the huge crocs. That was both amazing and terrifying to watch!On the very last day in Australia, we visited Sydney again and climbed all the way up to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for a guided tour. You could see the entire city skyline, harbor, and the Opera House from up there. Even though I was strapped in, the heights made me a little nervous, but I still had a blast.After our Bridge Climb, we sadly had to head to the airport and fly back home to China. I felt so lucky to have experienced all of those amazing adventures and seen so many mind-blowing sights in Australia. It's a summer vacation I'll never forget!I learned so much about the unique wildlife, geology, indigenous cultures, and remarkable attractions in Australia. I have a new appreciation for the great Outback and marine wonders like the Great Barrier Reef. I even came home with a new sense of confidence after facing some fears and challenges.This was easily the best summer break ever and I already can't wait for next year's big family trip! Where will we go - maybe on an African safari or exploring the ruins of ancient Egypt and Greece? I'll just have to wait and see. But I know for sure it won't top the excitement of my Australian summer adventure!篇4My Favorite Season - SummerSummer is my favorite season of the year! I always look forward to the summer holidays when I can take a break from school. During the summer, the weather is warm and sunny which means I can spend lots of time outdoors. Let me tell you about all the fun things I like to do in the summer.First of all, I love going to the beach with my family. We pack a cooler with drinks and snacks, and bring beach toys like buckets, shovels, and frisbees. When we get to the beach, I immediately run towards the water. The waves are so refreshing on a hot summer day. I enjoy splashing around and swimming in the ocean. My brother and I have contests to see who can jump over the biggest waves without getting knocked over.Sometimes the waves are big enough that they crash right over our heads!After swimming for a while, we'll go build sandcastles on the beach. We use the buckets to pack in the wet sand and make tall towers. Then we'll decorate the castles with seashells we find. One time, we even built a whole sandcastle village with tunnels, moats, and a courtyard in the middle! We played kings and queens defending our sandy kingdom. It was so much fun using our creativity.My favorite beach activity though is boogie boarding. A boogie board is a small surf board that you can ride on the waves. You have to time it just right and kick hard to catch a wave, then the wave will push you along. Sometimes the waves are big enough that they will pick you up and send you soaring through the air before crashing back into the water! It's an amazing thrill ride. Of course, you have to be careful of the biggest waves so you don't get pulled out by the rip currents.After a full day at the beach, we'll go home exhausted but happy. We rinse off the sand and salt water in the outdoor shower. Then we have a backyard barbecue for dinner, grilling hamburgers or hotdogs. The smell of the grill is one of my favorite summer scents. We eat our dinner outside on the patioas the sun is setting. For dessert, we'll have popsicles or ice cream sandwiches to help cool off. As it gets dark, we'll light some citronella candles to keep the mosquitoes away. Sometimes we'll even roast marshmallows over the fire pit and make s'mores! Yum!On days we don't go to the beach, I love just hanging out in our backyard. We have a nice big grassy area perfect for playing games. My friends and I will have competitions doing cartwheels, handstands, and other gymnastics moves to see who is the most flexible. We'll play tag or hide-and-seek, running around the yard trying not to get caught. If it gets too hot, we'll take a break by running through the sprinklers to cool off. It feels so refreshing to play in the water on a sweltering summer day.In the evenings, we'll have outdoor movie nights in the backyard. We'll set up a projector and a big screen, then lay out blankets and pillows on the grass to watch the movie under the stars. We'll make popcorn and bring out other snacks and sodas to enjoy during the movie. Some of our neighbors will even join us. We'll stay up late watching movies, looking for shooting stars, and catching fireflies in jars. Those summer nights are magical.My birthday is in July, which is perfect for summer birthday parties! For my last birthday, I had a pool party and all my friendscame over. We spent the whole afternoon swimming, playing pool games, and eating cake and popsicles. At night, we camped out in tents in the backyard. We told ghost stories, looked at constellations with a telescope I got as a gift, and made s'mores again. I'll never forget that fun summer sleepover!Those are just some of the reasons why I absolutely love summer. The warm weather, being outdoors, staying up late, vacations from school, beach days, pool parties, backyard camping...summer is just the best! I try to soak up as much sun and fun as I can before it's time to go back to school in the fall. Summer is a time to re-charge, be carefree, and make wonderful memories. I can't wait for this summer's adventures to begin!篇5My New Friend From South AfricaHi everyone! I'm super excited to tell you about my new friend Jacob who just moved here from South Africa. Jacob's family had to leave South Africa because of some problems there, and they decided to come live in our city. At first, Jacob was really shy and didn't talk much when he joined our class. But soon we became friends and now he's telling me all about his cool adventures in South Africa!Jacob said that in South Africa, the weather is warm and sunny almost every day. That's very different from here where we have cold, snowy winters. He told me he loved going to the beach and playing in the ocean waves. The beaches in South Africa sound amazing - with soft golden sand and beautiful blue water. Jacob said you can even see awesome animals like penguins sometimes! How cool is that?Another big difference is the animals in South Africa. Jacob has seen elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and many other crazy wildlife up close on safaris through national parks there. He showed me pictures of a huge elephant eating leaves right next to their car! I can't imagine seeing animals like that just roaming around. The only wildlife I usually see are squirrels and birds. Jacob said he'll really miss going on safaris.The food in South Africa is also quite different than here. Jacob's favorite is a BBQ meat called braai. It's made by cooking different meats over a wood fire and seasoning them with special spices. He said the flavors are incredible! We don't really have anything like that here. Another popular South African food Jacob loves is biltong, which is a dried, cured meat snack. It sounds kind of like jerky but more flavorful. I'll have to ask my mom if we can try making it sometime!One thing Jacob was really excited to experience here was snow! He had never seen it before moving to our city. On the first snowy day, he went totally crazy - catching snowflakes on his tongue, making snow angels, and pelting me with snowballs. I think the novelty has worn off a bit for him now after dealing with our freezing winters. But he still loves sledding and snowboarding whenever we get fresh powder.Speaking of winter fun, Jacob taught me and our friends this really cool game they play in South Africa called geckobakkie. It's kind of like hacky-sack except you use a smaller stuffed gecko instead of a ball. The rules are pretty simple - you have to keep the gecko off the ground by hitting it with your hands, feet, head etc. The person who hits it last after it falls is out. We played it at recess every day until the snow melted!At home, Jacob's family speaks English and another language called Afrikaans, which comes from Dutch settlers long ago. It sounds really funny to me, with lots of harsh Kh and G sounds. But it's cool that Jacob is bilingual. He's been teaching me some basic Afrikaans words and phrases like "Hoe gaan dit?" which means "How's it going?" Learning a new language is hard but fun.Overall, it's been awesome becoming friends with Jacob and learning about his life in South Africa. Even though our homes are literally on opposite sides of the world, we've found we have a lot in common too. We both love soccer (they call it football in South Africa), riding bikes, telling jokes, and getting in trouble at school sometimes. Jacob said one of the hardest things about moving here was leaving his friends behind. But I'm working on being just as good a friend to him as his mates back in South Africa!Jacob has really opened my eyes to how many diverse and fascinating cultures there are across the globe. Before he came to our class, I didn't know much about South Africa at all. Now I've learned so many interesting facts about the geography, wildlife, foods, languages and traditions there. I'm thankful Jacob's family moved here so I could meet him and get a window into a completely different way of life.I really admire how brave Jacob was to uproot his whole life and start fresh in a new country at this age. That must have been really hard and scary at first. But Jacob has such a positive, chill attitude and tried his best to fit in here. I think moving across the world like that would be overwhelming for me! Jacob jokes that the chilly winters here are "building character" for him. Whateverchallenges he faces, I know my new friend will face them with that laidback South African spirit.Jacob has promised that once he's settled in better, he'll have his family cook us an authentic South African braai BBQ. I can't wait to taste the amazing flavors and spices he's been describing. Maybe we can try some biltong and other snacks too! I'll be sure to fill you all in on the taste testing. For now, I'm just grateful to have Jacob as a friend to guide me through the fascinating traditions and cultures of the beautiful rainbow nation of South Africa. Stay tuned for more adventures with my new pal from the other side of the planet!篇6Unit 2: Animal HabitsHi everyone! For this unit, we learned all about animal habits. It was super interesting and I want to tell you what I learned.First, we learned about hibernation. That's when some animals like bears go into a really deep sleep during the winter. They do this because it's cold outside and there isn't much food around. During hibernation, their body temperature drops way down and they breathe very slowly. It allows them to survivethrough the whole winter without eating! Isn't that wild? I wish I could hibernate and just sleep until spring.We also studied migration, which is when animals travel long distances to get to places with better weather or more food. Birds like geese migrate south for the winter to escape the cold. Whales and other sea creatures migrate to feed and breed in different waters each season. The longest migration is done by the Arctic tern - it flies over 50,000 miles per year! That's like going around the world twice. I get tired just thinking about flying that far.Another cool thing we learned is how bees communicate by dancing! When a worker bee finds a good source of pollen or nectar, it goes back to the hive and does a little wiggle dance. The way it moves tells the other bees where the food is and how far away it is. Sometimes the bee even brings back a little sample of the nectar. How smart is that? Bees are like tiny choreographers.Speaking of dancing, some birds do mating dances to attract partners. The male does a special little routine with fancy moves to try to impress the females. The bird of paradise does one of the wackiest dances - it sticks out its crazy feathers and shimmiesaround. If a female likes what she sees, they become a pair. Maybe I'll have to learn some slick dance moves when I'm older!We did a really fun activity about camouflage, which is how some animals blend into their surroundings to hide from predators or sneak up on prey. We went outside and the teacher scattered lots of different colored chips and objects around. Then we had to lie flat and stay frozen while someone looked for us. The kids who wore green blended into the grass the best. Camouflage is like happening in invisible mode!Oh, and I can't forget about animal homes and habitats. A habitat is the type of environment an animal lives in, like a forest or desert. Within that, each species builds a certain kind of home or nest that's perfect for them and their babies. We saw pictures of incredible bird nests made of twigs and mud and even woven bags hanging from tree branches. Beavers are amazing builders too - they make huge dams and lodges out of logs, branches and mud. I just live in a regular house but some animal architects are super talented.I have to say, learning about all the strange and neat behaviors that animals have was totally fascinating. They do such peculiar yet brilliant things, all by instinct. It makes me realize how special the natural world is, with its own cycles and rhythms.We should protect wild places and species so future kids can learn about their incredible habits too. This was one of my favorite units so far and I'm excited for what else we'll discover about the animal kingdom!。
