(建议用时:35分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解(2019·陕西教学质量检测)Poverty(贫穷) has been troubling theworld. In 2016, the number of hungry people in the world reached onebillion for the first time. It’s difficult not to be shocked by the fact thatmore than one in seven people in the world do not have enough to eat.The U.N. figures that almost two thirds of the world’s hungrypeople are in Asia, which is of course the world’s most populous continent. More than a quarter are in subSaharan Africa. Although this place has a much lower population than Asia, it has the highest percentage of hungry people. Almost all of the rest are in Latin America, North Africa and the Caribbean. There are many reasons for world hunger. They include wars, droughts, floods, and the overuse of farmland. All these factors affect food production. Many people also blame greedy businessmen for pushing up the prices of basic foods in the global market. In fact, many people are starving just because they’re poor. Therefore, the most important reason, quite simply, is poverty. If we can’t pull out this root, we’ll never be able to solve food shortage.Although many people make the obvious point that there would be less hunger if the global population were smaller, few people would argue that there is not enough food to go around. The basic problem seems to be not a lack of food, but its distribution. In the last 50 years, global food production has risen even more quickly than the global population. There are many areas of the world in which people generally have more than enough food. In those places, being overweight is a far bigger problem than hunger. The answer to world hunger, therefore, may be a balanced food distribution around the whole world. Everyone will have enough to eat, but not to overeat.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

(建议用时:30分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·兰州实战考试)Mark is always engaged in his work. But this time he felt that it was time for him to take part in his community,so he went to the neighbourhood meeting after work. The area city councilwoman was leading a discussion about how the quality of life was on the decline. The neighbourhood faced many problems.Mark looked at the charts taped to the walls. There were charts for parking problems, crime, and for problems in empty buildings.Mark read from the charts,“Police patrols cut back, illegal parking up 20%”.People were supposed to suggest solutions to the councilwoman. It was too much for Mark.“The problems are too big,”he thought. He turned to the man next to him and said,“I think this is a waste of my time.Nothing I can do would make a difference here.”As he neared the bus stop on his way home,Mark saw a woman carrying a grocery bag,and a baby.As Mark got closer, the other child of her,a little boy, suddenly ran into the street. The woman tried to reach for him,but as she moved, her bag shifted, and groceries started to fall out.Mark ran to take the boy’s arm and led him back to his mother.“You gotta stay with your mom,”he said. Then he picked up the stray groceries and the woman smiled in relief.“Thanks,”she said, “you’ve got great timing.”“Just being neighbourly,”Mark said.As he rode home,he glanced at the walls of the bus.On one of them was “Small acts of kindness add up.”Mark smiled and thought,“Maybe that’s a good place to start.”【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文。

(建议用时:35分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解(2019·广州普通高中毕业班综合测试一)It’s no secret that yourpersonal characteristics directly affect how you interact with theworld—but you might be surprised at just how deep it goes. Expertsthink that your personality can even affect how you exercise andinfluence what sports are suitable for you.Highly Sensitive“Highly sensitive people may be more uncomfortable with group exercise classes or team sports where they feel their every move is being observed. Additionally, they may feel more upset about an ineffective or a poor workout,”says researcher Elaine Aron. For such people, individual or noncompetitive activities like biking, running and hiking are ideal.Type A PersonalityType A individuals often have an “all or nothing approach”to exercise. This personality type is known for sticking closely to their plan, not to mention being super competitive. However, this can cause them to stick too closely to a fitness routine, which means they might try to push past an injury. To get better exercise results, Type A people need to be aware that following an exercise plan too strictly may limit their progress. They should be more flexible and listen to their body, especially when they are in pain.Type B PersonalityThis laidback group may get too lazy about their exercise plan, which prevents them from seeing results. They are often less willing to devote enough time and energy to their fitness goals especially if exercise is something that makes them anxious.Type B individuals succeed in creative and cooperative environments, so team sports and group gym classes may be perfect.Remember, there are plenty of ways you can adapt a fitness plan to suit your needs, regardless of your characteristics. Just keep in mind what you like.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要论述了人的性格影响体育锻炼项目的选择。

能力提升题组训练(B)Ⅰ.阅读理解AUp to now, nobody has been able to understand chimp behavior better than Jane Goodall.Since her childhood, she had been dreaming of working closely with animals in Africa.“All through my childhood people said you couldn’t go to Africa. You’re a girl. But my mother used to say,if you really want to,there’s nothing you can’t do.” Goodall said.In 1957,the 26-year-old Goodall went to Kenya to work as a secretary. She also arranged to meet the famous scientist Louis Leakey, who was so impressed by her enthusiasm that he hired her as his assistant. She went with him on many trips to the African jungle and in 1960 Leakey sent Goodall to live among chimpanzees in a remote animal preserve, recording the animals’ behavior and interactions. For three months Goodall made little progress. But she said,“I never came close to giving up.” Her breakthrough came one day when she saw a male chimpanzee stick a piece of grass into a termite (白蚁) hill, then put the grass in his mouth.Afterwards she came to the hill and did the same.Pulling the grass out,she discovered dozens of termites on it.The discovery — that some animals use tools — was unknown to most scientists at the time.Goodall saw chimpanzees exhibit human-like emotions, such as jealousy and love. But she also discovered they were capable of violent attacks against each other.Goodall received her PhD in the study of animal behavior at England’s Cambridge University. Now she travels around the globe raising money to preserve wildlife.“I love being in the forest with the chimpanzees,” she said.“I’d much rather be there than travel around from city to city.”1.What was Goodall’s childhood dream?A.She dreamed of going to college.B.She dreamed of traveling all around the world.C.She dreamed of becoming a famous scientist.D.She dreamed of studying animals in Africa.2.What did Goodall’s mother think of her dream?A.As a girl she should not go to the African jungle.B.Her dream would remain a dream unless she got the right training.C.As a girl she should stay away from violent animals.D.She could make her dream come true if she was determined.3.What can we learn from the passage?A.One of Goodall’s discoveries is that some animals use tools.B.Chimpanzees like attacking each other violently.C.Goodall had just about given herself up when she made a breakthrough.D.Termites are chimpanzees’ favorite food.4.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?A.The Lives of ChimpsB.A Scholar of African WildlifeC.Jane’s BreakthroughD.The Connections between Chimps and Human Beings语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。

(建议用时:30分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·南昌重点中学高三年级段考)There are dozens of movierecommendation engines on the Web.They’re all different, but some aredefinitely better than others.Rotten TomatoesInstead of telling Rotten Tomatoes which films you like, you can tell it what kind of films you enjoy, which actors you want to see, and other standards to help it find the best movie for you. There’s a lot of variability in the quality of Rotten Tomatoes recommendations but it’s also a nice way to find the right film for any mood.NetflixNetflix asks you to rate(划分等级) movies to determine which films you’ll want to see next. And although it does make it easy to rate movies and it does return huge lists, the ideas it gives you aren’t all that strong. It’s easy to use, but it’s not the best way to get movie recommendations.JinniWhether you want to search for films based on your mood, time available, or reviews, the site has it all. But Jinni’s most amazing feature is its semantic(语义的) search. You can enter a term like “films that show Chris Farley yelling” and the site will return films that match your question. Go to use Jinni. You won’t regret it!CritickerInstead of just allowing you to rank films, Criticker compares your ratings to those of other users and sees how closely your tastes match those of other users. Once the service finds matches, you can view these users’ lists and see which movies they like.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了四个较好的电影推荐引擎。

1.Which one does the author recommend most?A.Rotten Tomatoes.B.Netflix.C.Jinni. D.Criticker.C解析:推理判断题。

根据第二段最后一句中的“a lot of variability in the quality of Rotten Tomatoes recommendations”可排除A项;根据第三段的最后一句中的“but it’s not the best way to get movie recommendations”可排除B项;将第四段关于Jinni的介绍与最后一段关于Criticker的介绍相比,明显可看出作者更倾向于推荐Jinni, 故排除D项。

2.What makes Criticker special?A.Comparing users’ ratings. B.Ranking your favourite films.C.Offering different standards. D.Finding films based on mood.A解析:细节理解题。

根据最后一段第一句“Instead of just allowing you to rank films, Criticker compares your ratings to those of other users and sees how closely your tastes match those of other users.”可知,Criticker不是仅允许你对电影进行排名,还将你的评分与其他用户的评分进行比较,看看你的品味与其他用户的品味的匹配程度。

据此可知,Criticker 的特别之处在于它能比较用户的评分,故A项正确。

3.What is the purpose of the text?A.To recommend the best online movies.B.To show how to use movie search engines.C.To introduce several movie search engines.D.To explain how to find the best online movies.C解析:写作意图题。

通读全文内容,并根据文章第一段“There are dozens of movie recommendation engines on the Web.They’re all different, but some are definitely better than others.”可知,本文主要介绍了四个较好的电影推荐引擎,故C项正确。

B(2019·陕西部分学校第一学期摸底)In the story of The Cro w andthe Pitcher from Aesop’s Fables, a thirsty crow drops stones into anarrow jar to raise the low level of water inside so he can take a drink. Now scientists have evidence to back up that story. Crows actuallydo understand how to make water displacement(排水量) work to their advantage, experiments show. The results suggest that the birds are, at least in some aspects, as smart as first-graders.Researchers, led by Sarah Jelbert at the University of Cambridge, presented six crows with tubes containing water.Inside the tubes, a worm or a piece of meat on a piece of wood was floating, just out of reach of the crow. In front of the tubes, the researchers arranged several rubber erasers that would sink, and some plastic objects that would float. The crows found out that they could drop the erasers into the tubes in order to raise the water level and get their snack. However, the birds handled awkwardly in experiments in which they could choose to drop objects in either a wide tube or a narrow one to get a snack, the researchers said. Dropping objects into a narrow tube would lift the water level by a greater amount and put the treat within reach after just two drops; while it took around seven drops to raise the snack to the same level in the wide tube. The crows obviously didn’t realize this, and most of them went for the wide tube first.Previous studies showed that chimps and human children can solve similar tasks. In a 2011study, chimps and kids found out that they could put water into a tube to reach a peanut that was floating in a small amount of water at the bottom.【解题导语】本文介绍了科学家通过实验对乌鸦智商的研究。

4.How did the crows get the snack in Sarah’s experiment?A.By breaking the tube.B.By dropping in erasers.C.By standing on the wood.D.By removing the wood.B解析:细节理解题。
