There are different opinions about (Different people have different opinions on) whether the
students should make friends online. Some people hold the opinion that the Internet helps to make
friends and by chatting online, students can more freely express their feelings and opinions. What’s
more (Besides / In addition), they can help them with their foreign language studies. However,
other people hold the opposite opinion that it will take students a lot of time to make friends online,
so it will have a negative influence on their study and worse still / what’s worse, they may get
cheated by online friends. As for me, I think that students should be allowed to make friends online but should also continue
to concentrate on their studies. (As far as I am concerned, students can make friends online by
making a good balance between study and relaxation.) It is my opinion that students should place
their studies, health and safety before other things and if they desire to find good friends, they can
make friends with those people around them. (In my opinion, it is not good for students to make
friends online.) As you know, students should focus on their studies rather than spend their
valuable time on their unimportant things.
第二节 读写任务: 写一篇记叙文,描写你或你的朋友遭遇困境的一次经历,并包括以下要点:
1)叙述你或你的朋友曾经遭遇的某个困境; 2)你或你的朋友是如何对待困难的;
3)你或你的朋友的态度对解决问题起了什么作用?
Attitude Is Everything
The passage mainly tells us that Michael’s life style is always positive, so he is always cheerful. He
says whether one is in a good mood or in a bad one depends on one’s choice. It’s attitude that
really matters.
Attitude is very important to deal with the difficulties in our life. The passage reminds me of a
similar experience. When I was in junior school, I used to be poor in expressing myself clearly. As a
result, many people looked down on me and I had very few friends. It seemed that I was really
hopeless. However, I believed that hard work could change everything. So, I tried to tell myself I
could do it. Every day I practiced reading aloud and tried to seize every chance to talk with others.
Finally, I made great progress. Now I can speak as fluently as anybody around me. If I hadn’t carried
on, I wouldn’t have done so well now.
I think it was my positive attitude that changed everything. As the proverb says, Attitude is
everything.

Be adventurous! The best way to experience any place is ____4____ and with absolutely no travel____5____.Simply go wherever your feet and your____6___lead you. You eventually will get
to the same sites that are on the bus tour------the museums, the monuments city hall----but will
have___7___much more. You will have felt the contemporary life of the city.
“But what if I get lost?” People might ask. No one gets ____8____ lost in a major city. Eventually,
you can find your way back to a well-known location. If it frightens you to be “lost”, just find a taxi
and go back to where you____9____. However, the nicest things can happen if you get lost. You

Ever wonder how much a cloud weighs? What about a hurricane? A meteorologist
has done some estimates and the results might surprise you.
Let's start with a very simple white puffy cloud — a cumulus cloud(积云). How
much does the water in a cumulus cloud weigh? Peggy LeMone, senior scientist at the
National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, did the numbers. "The
water in the little cloud weighs about 550 tons," she calculates. "Or if you want to
convert it to something that might be a little more meaningful … think of elephants."
The thought of a hundred elephants-worth of water suspended in the sky begs
another question — what keeps it up there?
"First of all, the water isn't in elephant sized particles(微粒), it's in tiny tiny tiny
particles," explains LeMone. And those particles float on the warmer air that's rising

Yesterday’s paper had a short article about the Coming-of-Age ceremony in a large
city in Japan. According to the article, the mayor of the city formally apologized to an
enraged professor who delivered a speech at the ceremony that was all but ignored by
20-year-olds in the city.
The officials prepared 7,000 seats in a gymnasium where the ceremony was held for
the 17,000 twenty-year-olds residing in the city. But most of the seats were empty
during the speech. And many of the 20-year-olds who did show up ignored the
professor and spoke among themselves or talked on their mobile phones. Some even
made a ruckus outside the gymnasium.
One 20-year-old who attended the ceremony said youngsters came to the ceremony
not to listen to the speech but to see their classmates. The mayor criticized the young

Violin prodigies (神童), I learned, have come in distinct waves from distinct regions.
Most of the great performers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries were born and
brought up in Russia and Eastern Europe. I asked Isaac Stern, one of the world’s
greatest violinists the reason for this phenomenon. “It is very clear,” he told me. “They
were all Jews and Jews at the time were severely oppressed and ill-treated in that part
of the world. They were not allowed into the professional fields, but they were allowed
to achieve excellence on a concert stage.” As a result, every Jewish parent’s dream was
to have a child in the music school because it was a passport to the West.
Another element in the emergence of prodigies, I found, is a society that values
excellence in a certain field to nurture (培育) talent. Nowadays, the most nurturing
