(建议用时:35分钟) Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2020·重庆七校联考)Being stuck behind crowds of slow walkers when you’re in a hurry is one of the most annoying things. But now, Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex, one of the UK’s largest shopping malls, has introduced its very own fast lane for shoppers in a hurry, aiming to help impatient shoppers avoid slow walkers and the anger that goes with them. The Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex has introduced a 720-foot “fast lane” reserved for fast walkers only, just in time for the festive rush. The centre’s management team said, “The lane will help the shoppers who know where they want to go quickly and don’t want to get caught in behind unhurried shoppers at the busiest time of the year.” The fast lane was introduced after a MasterCard survey found that 80 percent of consumers found slow walkers their biggest annoyance while shopping. The research also found that the average walking speed slowed down by 21 percent during the festive shopping period, as most shoppers spent more time window shopping during this period. Gary Mortimer, an expert from the Queensland University of Technology, said he wasn’t surprised by the promotion about the launch of the fast lane, and thought the concept would appeal to shoppers all over the world. “Crowded parking lots and busy shopping centres tend to be two of the biggest complaints of shoppers over the festive season,” he said. “I think the fast lanes are a new approach. However, I suspect it will be a bit like fast lanes on the highway, so it might end up being more trouble than its worth.” The MasterCard survey also identified the four most common types of shoppers. They include “Skaters” who try and make their way through crowds politely, “Dodgers” who move down the paths to avoid slow walkers, “Bulldozers” who push their way through crowds, and “Tutters” who express their frustrations to slow walkers. 【解题导语】 本文主要介绍了英国一家大型购物中心在节日高峰期引进快速通道一事。 1.The fast lane is intended for the shoppers who________. I looked around and nobody stopped so I just went my way. After a few steps, I turned and asked him whether he needed help. He told me his house was one station further and he would only need to take the train there. So I reached for his hand to help him stand up. He wanted to take the stairs but I feared that he would hurt himself since he seemed too weak to walk, so I asked him to take the elevator. Even though my mind was trying to turn the danger lights on, I put the thought that I should not go alone with a drunken man out of my mind and accompanied him on the elevator. We arrived on the platform with no incidents. The man’s knees seemed to soften, so I asked him to rest on a bench. While sitting there, he thanked me, telling me that I saved him. No, I said, I really did nothing; he saved himself as he walked on his own feet. At the next station, we said our goodbyes. Before I knew it, he left 100 dollars and dashed out of the train. There was no way to give him back his money. I wanted to leave it on the seat, but a young woman who thought it belonged to me ran after me and gave me the note. My initial reaction to getting that money was of shame and I even felt offended. Then I thought he just wanted to thank me, the best way he knew how. Now, my question is—what act of kindness shall I do with these 100 dollars? 【解题导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。作者在地铁站台看到有个醉汉坐在地上,于是把对方搀扶起来并陪他坐上地铁,临下车的时候对方塞给作者一百美元,作者准备用这笔钱继续帮助别人。 5.Why was the man sitting on the subway station’s floor? Module 1 Life in the Future(建议用时:45分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2020·威海高三诊断)A team of engineers at Harvard Universitycreated the first robotic fly. Designed to do what a fly doesnaturally, the tiny machine is the size of a fat housefly. Itsmini wings allow it to stay in the air and perform controlled flight tasks.“The added difficulty with a project like this is that actually none of its components is off the shelf and we have to develop them all on our own,” said Robert Wood, a Harvard engineering professor. They engineered a series of systems to start and drive the robotic fly. “The seemingly simple system which just moves the wings has lots of interdependence(互相依赖) of the individual components, each of which individually has to perform well, but then has to be matched well to everything it’s connected to,” said Wood. While this first robotic flyer is linked to a small, offboard power source, the goal is eventuall y to equip it with a builtin power source, so that it might someday perform datagathering work at rescue sites, in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield. “Basically it should be able to take off, land and fly around,” he said.Wood says the design offers a new way to study flight mechanics and control at insectscale. Yet, the power, sensing and computation technologies on board could have much broader applications. “You can start thinking about using them to answer open scientific questions, you know, to study biology in ways that would be difficult with the animals, but using these robots instead,” he said. “So there are a lot of technologies and open interesting scientific questions that are really what drives us on a daytoday basis.”【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

Most times caring about it is even more important than understanding it.Most of us don't value ourselves or our love enough to know this.It has taken me a long time to believe in the power of simple saying “I'm so sorry,”when someone is in pain. One of my patients told me that when she tried to tell her story people often interrupted to tell her that they once had something just like that happening to them. Her pain became a story about themselves.Eventually she stopped talking to most people. We connect through listening. When we interrupt what someone is saying to let them know that we understand,we move the focus of attention to ourselves. When we listen, they know we care.I have even learned to respond to someone crying by just listening. In the old days I used to reach for the handkerchiefs, until I realized that passing a person a handkerchief may be just another way to shut him down,to take them out of their experience of sadness. Now I just listen.Whenthey have cried all they need to cry, they find me there with them. This simple thing has not been that easy to learn. It certainly went against everything I had been taught since I was very young.I thought people listened only because they were too shy to speak or did not know the answer. But now I know that a loving silence often has far more power to heal than the kindest words.46.What does the author value most in the munication with each other?A.Deep understanding.B.Saying “I'm sorry”.C.Attention from heart.D.Doing nothing.47.The woman patient stopped telling her story to most people because ________.A.she didn't get enough respect from othersB.she was discouraged by being often interruptedC.people often told her their own opinionsD.people couldn't understand her sad situation48.If you hand a handkerchief to someone crying, you may ________.A.hurt his feelingsB.make him embarrassedC.encourage him to continue to cryD.stop him from letting out his sorrow49.It can be inferred from the passage that while municating,________.A.listening is a perfect way to respond to othersB.people keep silent because they don't know the answerC.keeping silent means being too shy to speakD.it is easy to form the habit of listening silently50.Which of the following might be the author's opinion about munication?A.Keep silent.B.Just listen.C.Be careful.D.Tell your own story.D(xx·湖南高考)Planning a visit to the UK? (外研版)2021版高考英语必修3一轮复习达标检测卷Module 3The Violence of Nature(建议用时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2020·新疆维吾尔自治区适应性检测) Super-storm Sandy slammed into the eastern United States a few years ago. The wind-driven water caused a lot of flooding, especially in the region’s subway system. Now two teens have invented a device that could help prevent future subway floods. In New York City alone, Superstorm Sandy caused an estimated $19 billion in damage. Much of the floodwaters entered the subway system through its ventilation grates (通风栅). Those metal grills usually lie at ground level. When the system is shut down ahead of a flood, engineers try to cover those grates with plywood (胶合板) and sandbags. But the flooding often washes away those measures, which allows water to flow into the tunnels. Raising those grates even a tiny bit above ground level would cost a lot of money. Other ideas have included building tall chimneys around the holes. That would raise the grates and cost a lot of money, too.Kyle and Raymond came up with a different, less expensive idea. They designed a metal grate with a built-in, adjustable cover. When trains are running, one part of the grate slides open to bring in fresh air. But when the system is shut down, that part can be slid shut to completely block the grate.Their grate is the same size as the grates used now. So, it would be simple, they say, to lift out the old grate and drop in a replacement. Their design includes tamperproof features, which can prevent operation mistakes. They make sure that people don’t intentionally shut off airflow during normal conditions.
