“The British Schindler”:the life of Nicholas Winton
It is August 1939,and a group of frightened children are boarding a train at
Prague’s Wilson Station.Their heartbroken parents do not join them.(1)Indeed,they fear they may never see their children again.But they know that their children
will live.These are among the 669 children,(2)most of them Jewish,that Nicholas
Winton will go on to save from death at the hands of the Nazis.
Nicholas Winton was born on 19 May 1909 in London,to German-Jewish parents.The
family later took British nationality.(3)On leaving school,Winton worked in banks
in Germany and France.He returned to Britain in 1931,(4)where he worked in business.
In December 1938,a friend asked Winton to come to Prague to aid people (5)who were
escaping from the Nazis.In Prague,(6)Winton saw people living in terrible conditions

Dr. Charles Richard Drew, the Father of the Blood Bank
Charles Richard Drew was a famous African-American doctor and scientist.
His work on blood banks helped save thousands of lives during World War Ⅱ.
Charles Richard Drew was born in 1904 in Washington D.C. His main
interest was in sports when he was young. He won many medals for swimming.
Later, he focused his attention on track, basketball and football. During college,
Charles became interested in medicine. He attended medical school at McGill
University in Canada. In 1933, he received his Doctor of Medicine degree.
As a doctor and researcher, Charles was absorbed in research on blood
transfusions. Through his study, he found that blood plasma could be

【教材分析】
The grammar section of this unit focuses on the verb-ed form as attributive.
Students will understand how a verb-ed form or a verb-ed phrase can be used as
attributive like an adjective. Meanwhile, students are expected to learn how to use the
verb-ed form in two different situations. That is, a verb-ed form before a noun or a verb-ed phrase followed a noun. Furthermore, they will correctly apply the usage to fulfilling
some written tasks.
In the vocabulary learning section, students will learn words used to describe
personal qualities and talk about people’s characteristics using positive, neutral or
negative adjectives.
In the listening section, students will learn how to make a phone enquiry. While
listening, students are expected to complete different listening tasks by taking notes of
