2018-2019学年高一英语外研版必修五练习:Module 1 课下能力提升(四)

Module 1 课下能力提升(四)Ⅰ.阅读理解If you don't have time to read, you don't have time to write. The idea that we must be readers first in order to be writers is repeated throughout books on writing and is often the first piece of advice published authors give to ambitious novelists. “The more we read, the faster we can perform that magic trick of seeing how the letters have been combined into words that have meaning,”writes best-selling author Francine Prose in Reading Like a Writer. In a study done by the University of Florida, researchers surveyedstudents' reading materials and habits. Upon analyzing their findings, the researchers concluded that students who read academic journals andliterary fiction scored higher in terms of writing complexities (复杂事物) than those who read popular fiction or web content published on sites. However, Andrew Jarosz, a psychology professor at Mississippi State University, points out that this study had a relatively small sample size and says it's too soon to draw the conclusion.“It could indeed be that reading complex materials leads to more complex writing,” he said. “Alternatively, what if those who are better writers prefer to read complex materials that mirror their own writing abilities? It is entirely possibl e that the relationship goes in the other direction.”Jarosz says other factors may also be responsible for why some people write at a higher level than others, including intelligence, working memory capacity and the ability to store and process information at the same time.Susan Reynolds, author of Fire Up Your Writing Brain, believes that deep reading — thoughtful and slow reading that's rich in complexities and sensory details — is essential for a better writer. She encourages writers to abandon television and commercial fiction and instead read poetry and literary fiction, which encourages a deeper reading. Research has found that deep reading is different from other types of reading when we skim for information.By reading, writers not only gather knowledge, but they also gain a better understanding of language, learn their writing styles, grow their vocabulary and most importantly, find inspiration.语篇解读:本文是说明文。

Ⅱ.阅读七选五What's the biggest problem with memory skills? __1__ There are many memory skills that work well, but you'll forget them when you need them most — unless you make using them a habit. There was a game that involved looking at a table covered in fifteen various items.__2__ Finally, one boy won the prize by remembering all fifteen items. Later, I learned why he won. His father taught him a simple trick that none of us other kidsknew. The skill is to tie the items together in an imaginative story.__3__ When you learn a person's name, for example, tell yourself, “Remember that.”This signals your unconscious (潜意识的) mind to rank this input as more important.Know why you want to remember something, and how you'll remember it. To remember a person, for example, ask why they'll be important to you in the future, imagine where you'll see them next, and connect that to anything you notice about them. Seeing the importance of remembering really helps.__4__Do you ever forget where you put your keys? You have probably tried retracing (追溯) your steps, at least doing it in your imagination. __5__ When you set the keys on the chair, see yourself walking in and setting the keys on the chair. You won't forget where they are. There are many more of these memory tricks. If you want them to be useful, though, don't just read about them. Make one or two memory skills a habit and start today.A.Tell yourself to remember.B.Where can you pick up these skills?C.The answer is remembering to use them.D.It is not easy for us to learn memory techniques.E.We had to write down as many items as we could remember.F.Additional connections can set the memory more firmly in your brain.G.This can work well, but even better is to prevent the forgetting beforehand.答案:1~5CEAFGⅢ.完形填空Many language learners think their pronunciation is good enough because their teacher doesn't correct them too often or because other students can __1__ them.Pronunciation is the area which is __2__ the least attention to inlanguage learning. 姓名,年级:时间:A question from Brittney in the United States of America:I am an American college student who is planning to apply for work in the United Kingdom after I graduate, and I was wondering how big the language barrier would be.Alex Gooch answers:Hi Brittney. You’re right。

There are many well known differences between British and American English, but these differences won’t cause you any serious problems if you come and work in Britain。

First, there are a few noticeable GRAMMAR differences between British and American English: I’ll talk about the two most important ones。

First of all, when Americans make sentences using “just”,“already”or “yet”, they normally use the past simple tense, while in Britain, we use the present perfect. So an American, for example, might say, “I alre ady had lunch。

” And a British person would say,“I’ve already had lunch。

2019年4月Module 5 课下能力提升(二十)Ⅰ.阅读理解The word “sport” first meant something that people did in their free time. Later it often meant hunting wild animals and birds. About a hundred years ago the word was first used for organized games. This is the usual meaning of the word today. People spend a lot of their spare time playing football, basketball, tennis and many other sports. Such people play because they want to. A few people are paid for the sport they play. These people are called professional sportsmen. They may be sportsmen for only a few years, but during that time the best ones can earn a lot of money. For example, a professional footballer in England earns more than 30,000 pounds a year. The stars can earn a lot more. International golf and tennis champions can make more than 50,000 pounds a year. Of course, only a few sportsmen can earn as much money as that. It is only possible in sports for individuals, like golf, tennis and motor racing. Perhaps the most surprising thing about sportsmen and money is this: the stars can earn more money from advertising than from sports. An advertisement for sports equipment doesn't simply say, “Buy our things”.It says, “Buy the same shirt and shoes as ...”Famous sportsmen can even advertise things like watches and food. They allow the companies to use their names or photographs and they are paid for this. Sport is no longer just something for people's spare time.语篇解读:本文主要讲述了运动员及其收入的情况。

高一英语外研版必修五练习:Module 4 课下能力提升(十六)

2019年4月Module 4 课下能力提升(十六)Ⅰ.阅读理解The New Year is a time for celebration for almost everyone of the world. In Britain, people go to pubs and nightclubs to dance the old year away, and to welcome in the new one at midnight. In recent years, street parties have become more popular.Thousands of people gather in squares, main streets or on the river banks tolisten to bands playing and to see fireworks displays. For people who stay at home, most are attracted by the special, live New Year shows on TV. They are waiting for the countdown, along with the presenters, from 10 to 1 as the last second of the old year away and the bells of the New Year are rung.In Scotland, people visit their neighbors and drink, dance on New Year's Eve. If you're invited to a Scottish home that night, it's important to know what to bring with you: a lump of coal, some shortbread and some whisky. The coal shows warmth, so you're wishing the people you visit will have enough heat in the coming year. The shortbread represents food, so you're hoping that the people will have enough to eat in the new year. Some Scots call whisky “the water of life”,so when you hand over your bottle to your hosts, it means you want them to have enough to drink over the next 12 months. And there's one more key task you still have to perform if you can. The first person to knock on a neighbor's door is supposed to be a tall, dark, and handsome man who will bring good luck to the household. But what if that's not you? Well, don't ring the bell just yet. Wait a while and the_right_person is sure to turn up soon!语篇解读:本文主要介绍了英国人庆祝新年的活动方式,着重介绍了苏格兰人的庆祝方式。

It was the first time that the five rings appeared on the stamps of the White Olympics. In the 1950's, the stamps of this kind became more colorful. When the White Olympics came, the host countries (东道国) as well as the nonhost countries published stamps to mark those games.
