The One With the Holiday ArmadilloWritten by: Greg MalinsTranscribed by: Eric Aasen710

7.10 The One With The Holiday ArmadilloRoss has his son, Ben, for the holidays and decides to teach him about Hanukkah.Ben can't handle the idea of no visit from Santa, so Ross tries at the last minute to find a Santa costume. The rental shop is all out so he rents an Armadillo costume instead.Things go from bad to worse but in the end he finally gets to give Ben Hanukkah and Christmas.Phoebe's apartment is finally done being rebuilt after the fire.Worried that Rachel won't want to move back in with her, she tries to rive(vt.撕开) a wedge(n.楔) between Joey and Rachel by giving Joey a drumset and a tarantula. It backfires, but Rachel wants to live with Phoebe anyway. The apartment looks great but no longer has two separate bedrooms.Phoebe likes the spaciousness(n.宽广宽敞), so Rachels keeps living with Joey.Chandler tries to master the art of smoothing slipping someone money during a handshake.[Scene: Monica, Chandler, and Phoebe's, Chandler is on the phone, Rachel and Monica are sitting in the kitchen.]Chandler: Buh-bye. (Hangs up the phone) I've just got us reservations at Michelle’s and tickets to the Musicman to celebrate our first holiday season as a betroughed couple. The Music Man is a musical(n.音乐剧) with a book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson, based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. In 1957, the show became a hit on Broadway and spawned revivals, a popular film and is still frequently produced by both professional and amateur theatre companies.Broadway theatre is the most prestigious form of professional theatre in the U.S., as well as the most well known to the general public and most lucrative for the performers, technicians and others involved in putting on the shows. Along with London's West End theatre, Broadway theatre is usually considered to represent the highest level of commercial theatre in the English speaking world.Broadway theatre, or a Broadway show, refers to a performance, usually a play or musical presented in one of the thirty-nine large professional theatres with 500 seats or more locatedin the Theatre District of the New York City borough of Manhattan. The shows that reach Broadway and thrive there have historically been perceived as more mainstream and less cutting edge(adj.前沿的尖端的) than those produced Off- and Off-Off-Broadway or in regional non-profit theatres such as the Cleveland Playhouse in Cleveland, the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts.Monica:Betrothed… (Corrects him)betrothed a. Phoebe: (entering carrying a skull) Hey!Chandler: Hey!Rachel and Monica: Hi!Phoebe: Haaaa... The festival is observed(v.庆祝) in Jewish homes by the kindling(n.点燃) of lights on each night of the holiday - one on the first night, two on the second, and so on.Hanukka, from the Hebrew word for "dedication," marks the re-dedication of the Temple after its desecration(n.亵渎神圣污辱) byAntiochus[<希神>安太阿卡斯] IV and commemorates the "miracle of the cruze of oil." According to the Talmud(n.<宗>犹太法典), at the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem[n.耶路撒冷(巴勒斯坦著名古城)] following the victory of the Maccabees[n. 塞硫古王朝], there was only enough consecrated(adj.神圣的) olive oil to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple for one day. So she said, she didn’t wanna live with me anymore?Chandler: No! No, she didn't say that. I-I-I think you should talk to Monica now.Monica: Phoebe, don't worry about it. I'm sure she wants to live with you.Phoebe: You're sure? You're absolutely sure?Monica: Well, no. But, um, I bet she probably does.Phoebe: Probably? Yeah, I don't like that word. (Chandler and Monica look surprised) Kind of what‘probably’ really means. Yeah, uh-huh. Yeah, oh, "Your mom probably won't kill herself," y’know? You know, ''No, the funeral director probably won't hit on you.','Yeah, that nice couple probably will adopt you.' Okay, yeah,I'm sorry.I'm sorry, but I'm not hanging all my hopes of Rachel and I living together on-on "Probably!" Y’know? You gotta take care of yourselves! He or she may also be the person who receives and records advance reservations for dining, as well as dealing with any customer complaints and making sure all servers are completing their tasks in an efficient manner. In some localities(n.地点) or traditions the post is also known as the headwaiter(n. In the United States, these functions may be vested in(v.归属于) a manager, supervisor, or cashier[n.(银行或公司的)司库]. A working maitre d' in the U.S. is usually associated with a destination restaurant, or one connected with a four-star or better hotel. Happy birthday!Happy birthday!Rach, come on.It's your birthday!Hey...She's not as pretty as she was when she was 29.Ms. Greene wants to establish some ground rules before she comes out. Please don't use the words "old" or "downhill"...or "They still look pretty damn good."They do.Rachel, come on out.Monica made breakfast.Chocolate chip pancakes. We've got presents.Good ones? They're all from the list you gave us two weeks ago.Can I keep the presents and still be 29?Come on, Rach, turning 30 is not that big a deal.Really? Is that how you felt when you turned 30?Why, God, why?We had a deal. Let the others grow old, not me!You guys, is it just me? Am I overreacting? No, it's not just you. My 30th birthday sure wasn't much fun.And now Chandler! We're all getting so old.Why are You doing this to us?The One Where They All Turn Thirty28You're in a great place in your life. You have an amazing job, good friends. Your roommate's a soap opera star.Your character is in a coma.I promised myself I wouldn't cry at this one.I know my life's going pretty well, but I see so many people...who've accomplished their goals before they're 30.Yeah, but you shouldn't compare yourself to me.-Come on, Phoebe! -You can do it!-Come on. -There you go.I did it! One mile on a Hippity Hop.That's everything I wanted to do before I was 30.Except I wanted to patch things up with my sister.Oh, well. But, yeah!Girls, this thing is a godsend, if you know what I mean.Let's have some fun. What do you want to do?Nothing. I don't want to do anything.Doing nothing on your 30th is better than doing something stupid, like Ross. That was a practical purchase.I needed that car for transportation.Okay? I have a child. How hot do I look in this?Ross, a sports car?Wouldn't it be cheaper to just stuff a sock down there? That's not what this is about.I am a sports car enthusiast.-I've always been into cars. -What's the horsepower?I don't know, but look how shiny!-I can't believe you bought this. -So can I have a ride, stud?Hop in.Get ready for the smoothest ride of your life.Damn it.Okay, who's next?I am gonna do something today. I won't sit around like some old lady.I want to get something pierced.Like my nose or my tongue or something.Really? Because that hurts. So what? The way I see it..Son of a bitch!Look, I know what you're going through.I'm totally freaked out about turning 25.Get out of my apartment.Rach, I think that you're doing great.Let's face it, no one handles this well.Least of all you.Put that back on. Monica will be here any minute. But it hurts my Joey's apple. For the last time, it's not named after each individual man. You've done a wonderful job with the party. Everything's so lovely. Well, not as lovely as you.I can't believe you have a 30-year-old daughter. And I can't believe you have a tux that's 30 years old. It's older than that. Ross was conceived right near this tuxedo. Everybody hide! She's coming.Everybody down!Everybody stay here. I'll find out what's going on.Hey, you got the door open!Hey, are you drunk?No.Okay.Okay.See, I was a little nervous about turning...30.So the busboys took me out for some drinks.Might want to puke on you later. Here's the thing. We've thrown a very formal surprise party for you. -Your parents and friends are in there. -No!-Yes! Yes! -No.Oh, no! My parents have never seen me drunk. That they know of.We'll get you some coffee. They'll never know that you're drunk. -You promise? -I'll take care of it.I love you so much.Okay, we have to do something about your breath. What about your breath? That's still yours. Now remember, it's a surprise party. So when you go in, act surprised.Ready?Surprise!Okay, forward. Forward.Stop!Okay, back.. Stop!Okay, for.. Stop!Stop! Stop!Okay, here's what we're gonna do.I'll break into this minivan, put it in neutral. You push it forward so Ross can get out of the spot. All right. Here we go.Haul ass!Happy 30th birthday! Here. It's for the child in you. And the woman.Happy 30th!Why do you keep saying that?Because it's our 30th birthday.Yeah, no, we're not 30. We're 31. Okay.Wait.Oh, it's you.Yeah. What?Yeah, we're not 30. We're 31.That's what it says on my birth certificate. You have a birth certificate?I got a big box of family stuff when my mom died. Our mom.Right. Okay.-Do you have mine? -No, I sold it to a Swedish runaway. Oh, my God.Oh, my God, we are 31!Yeah.I just lost a whole year of my life.Okay.-Your middle name is Pamela? -Yes.I never knew mine. Do you remember what it is?Yes.Phoebe.-That's my first name. -Right. Okay. Then, no.We made it across the room. You're doing great. What's going on?Monica's a little drunk.Yeah! I love drunk Monica.Oh, she's so much more fun than regular Monica. She doesn't want her parents to know. All right, all right. Here's what we'll do.I'll get twice as drunk, then no one will even notice her. What's going on?Monica's wasted.Maybe that'll liven up this party. Will you just help her get changed?Taking care of a drunk, naked woman seems like a job for Joey. This one's from me.It wasn't on your list, but it's really fun.A scooter.Stick to the list.Always stick to the list. No, no, I love it. Thank you.Open ours next! Open ours next! Now that you're a couple, we don't get two gifts? For my last birthday, you gave me a hug.Read the card! Read the card!"Happy birthday, Grandma."It's better to be over the hill...than buried under it."All our love, Monica and Chandler." That's funny. No, no. That was a joke.I know, I get it. It's funny.Because you're not a grandma. To be a grandma, you have to be married and have children.I don't have any of those things. That's why it's so funny.I'm just gonna go...All you had to do was buy the card.It was stupid to get upset about not having a husband and kids. All I really needed was a plan.See, I want three kids. And you want to have them all at the same time and all for your brother. As I was saying...I should have the first one by the time I'm 35.Which gives me five years. If I want a kid when I'm 35, I don't have to get pregnant until I'm 34. Which gives Prada four years to start making maternity clothes. But I want to be married for a year before I get pregnant.Really? That long?Look all you want, it's happening.I don't have to get married until I'm 33. That's three whole years. Wait a minute, though.I'll need a year and a half to plan the wedding. And I'd like to know the guy for a year, year and a half...before we get engaged.Which means I need to meet the guy by the time I'm 30.Which is fine because you just turned...28!No, Ross. No, it is not fine.I should already be with the guy I'm gonna marry. Will you quit hogging it?I'm telling you, it's like watching Bambi learn how to walk. You're drunk.Mom and Dad are gonna be mad.Maybe I'm a little drunk. Are those crab cakes?I told you to come straight to me when they were ready. How you feeling? You are so handsome.I want to make love to you right here, right now.I really wish that you wouldn't.Just get through a little bit more, then we can put you in bed. Just smile, and don't talk to anyone.Speech, speech! Let's hear from the birthday girl.Phoebe!See, everybody's looking at me.The plan's working.I didn't even have to take off my top yet.Speech. Come on, speech! You can't keep your hands off her for one second.I think it's nice.I think it's necessary.I want to thank you all for coming. My family and...my friends.I'd really like to say that I'm...You know what I'd really like to say?I'm drunk! That's right, Mom and Dad.Your little old "Harmomica" is hammered. And guess what?I've been drunk before. And I've smoked a cigarette. It's all okay. It's okay because...I turned 30 today. And I can do anything I want.Because I am a grownup.Okay, quick. Help me get this off.I lost a whole year.I can't believe it. This is so unfair!Come on, Phoebe, it'll be okay. Will it? Will it?How would you feel if you found out you were 31?That's not gonna happen. Because we have a new deal. Plus, it ruined my schedule.I haven't done the things I wanted to do before I was 31.-Like what? -Like I haven't met any Portuguese people.I haven't had the perfect kiss. And I haven't been to sniper school. Why don't we go and have some birthday cake?I just feel like being by myself. See you guys later. Thanks. Poor Phoebe.Hey, you guys, I think I'm gonna walk her home.-Oh, man. -What?He's gonna eat the cake.Phoebe!Listen, I...Close your eyes. That's one thing to cross off your list.Oh, yeah.Plus, I'm one-sixteenth Portuguese.Okay, is everybody clear? We're gonna pick it up...and move it.All we need is teamwork. We're gonna lift the car...and slide it out.Lift...and slide.-Ross, I really don't think this.. -Lift...and slide.-Okay, here we go. -All right, everyone.Lift...and slide.-Hey, Joey.. -Come on, Rach, my turn just started. Actually, I just want to talk to Tag.Oh, okay. Hey, can I ride this outside?Whatever. I'm not your mother. Not in the street!-Are you feeling any better? -Yeah, I'm doing okay. I'm... Let's talk. What's up?Oh, Tag...You're such a great guy. And we have so much fun together. -But I.. -Wait.I think I see where you're going. Before you say anything else, can I say one more thing? Well said. And a good example of the fun I was referring to.But I think I'm past the point where I can just have fun.Don't do this. This is just because you're turning 30. Yeah, it is.But you're just a kid. I mean, you're 25.-Twenty-four, actually. -Oh, God.You know what I wish? I wish you were six years older. Well, if I'm wishing for stuff, I wish I was six years younger. -Me too. -Yeah. Sorry.Hey, how'd it go?If I only want two kids, can I keep him for another year? You did the right thing.I don't like this anymore.Well, here we are. Just a bunch of 30-year-olds.Do you realize in 10 years we're gonna be 40?Why, God?Why are you doing this to us?Yes! My baby's finally free. All right!Start it up. Let's go!How hot are we?You want to buy a car?311。

So, yay!Hey, we already learned a song.Ready? One, two, three, four.Tequila! That's fun. Here you go.Thank you, Gunther. Put her there.Definitely not easier with coins.-Thank you. -Thank you.Hey, Phoebe.Here. Now I only owe you $49.50.Hey, Phoebe...if you want to get Joey a gift that disrupts the entire building... why not something more subtle...Like a wrecking ball...or a vial of small pox to release in the hallway? It's not just the drum noise. Every five minutes...Joey throws his sticks in the air...and I have to hear: "Oh, my eye! Oh, God, my eye!"-I mean, it's so annoying. -Yes, thank you.You see, this is how normal people are supposed to react to drums. You got Joey drums to annoy Rachel...so she wouldn't want to live there anymore?Maybe on some level. You could just not throw the sticks up in the air. What is rock 'n' roll about that?Hey, Joey, I got you another present.Hold it! Before you tell me what it is...Okay, what is it?It's a...tarantula!God, Rachel, I'm sorry. What was I thinking...giving Joey this big, gross, scary spider...in such a poorly constructed cage? What are you talking about? I love them.I had a tarantula when I was a kid. But it died because my cat ate it. And then my cat died. But, Joey, isn't this cool?Is it on me? I feel like it's on me. I got..Oh, isn't that adorable?Joey is afraid of the tarantula. He's so adorable. He's so much fun.I'm glad you're having so much fun here.Wait a minute. What's the matter? Our apartment is ready. And that makes you angry because...?Because you'd rather live here with Joey.-Where did you get that? -Monica and Chandler...said you were having so much fun here...and apparently no amount of drums or tarantula is gonna change that. Did you get all this stuff for Joey...to try to drive me out of the apartment? You might as well have gotten him a fish. You know how fish freak me out.Fish.But it wouldn't have mattered. We're gonna live together. We're roommates. That's the deal.Yes, but I wanted you to want to live with me.But if you're having so much fun over here..It's so much more fun with you.-We did have fun, didn't we? -We did. They say, if we want, we could see it tonight.-I would love to. -Yay, okay!-Good, good, good. -Great. All right. Good. And Monica asked me to make the drumming stop. Done.(万圣节探险,面具大师)Hello, sir. You here to return those pants? No, these are my pants.Okay.-How can I help you? -Do you have a Santa outfit left? Two days before Christmas? Sorry, man.Okay, look. Do you have anything Christmas-y?I promised my son, and I really don't want to disappoint him. Come on, you gotta have something.I'm the Holiday Armadillo!I'm a friend of Santa's...and he sent me here to wish you...a merry Christmas! What happened to Santa, Holiday Armadillo?Santa was unavailable...so close to Christmas.Come in, have a seat. You must be exhausted, coming all the way from Texas. -Texas? -That's right, Ben.I'm Santa's representative...for all the Southern states. And Mexico! But Santa sent me here...to give you these presents, Ben.Maybe the lady will help me with these presents. Wow, thanks! You're welcome, Ben.Merry Christmas. And happy Hanukkah! Are you for Hanukkah too? Because I'm part Jewish. You are? Me too.Because armadillos also wandered in the desert? You want to wander in the hall?Hey, Ben!What if the Holiday Armadillo...told you all about the Festival of Lights?Cool!Come on, Ben.Years and years ago...there were these people called...-the Maccabees! -Ho, ho, ho!Merry Christmas!Santa! What are you doing here, Santa?Well, I'm here to see my old buddy, Ben.What are you doing here...Weird Turtle Man?I'm the Holiday Armadillo...your part-Jewish friend. You sent me here to give Ben some presents.Remember? What?Did you bring me any presents, Santa? You bet I did, Ben.Put her there.Well, it would have worked this time if his hands weren't so damn small. Ho, ho, ho!Ben, come open more gifts. The armadillo and I will have a talk in the kitchen. There's a sentence I never thought I'd say. What are you doing? You said you were having trouble finding a Santa costume...so I borrowed one from a guy at work.Thank you, but you gotta leave.-Why? -Because...I'm finally getting him excited about Hanukkah...and you're wrecking it.But I didn't get to shake my belly like a bowlful of jelly.I'm sorry, Chandler, but this is really important to me.Fine, I'll give the suit back.Hey, you think you can keep it another night? Santa, really?Yeah, is that okay?Did your dad ever dress up like Santa?-No. -Then it's okay!Okay, Ben. Santa has to go.Say goodbye. No, why does he have to go?Because if Santa and the Holiday... Armadillo...are ever in the same room for too long...the universe will implode!Merry Christmas! No, why can't the armadillo leave? I want Santa. Fine, I give up. Santa..Santa can stay!Well, I'll stay...but only because I want to hear about Hanukkah. Ben, will you sit here with Santa...and learn about Hanukkah?Okay, Santa.-Thank you. -You're welcome. All right, it's time...for the story of Hanukkah.Years and years ago...there were these people called the Maccabees!Merry Christmas!Oh, wow, look at this place!Oh, this is terrible. They've made so many changes...I can't even feel my grandmother's presence anymore.Oh, new sconces!-Oh, my God! -What?Remember how you told me your grandmother put up that wall... -to make that into two bedrooms? -Yeah.And that the landlord might find out...-and then tear it down? -Yeah?Do you really not know where I'm going? It left. It's one huge room.Oh, no!Wow!See?I guess we'll have to put the wall back up.-You can't, with the new skylight. -There's a skylight?Wow!So should we start looking for a new place? You know, I'm sensing...that my grandmother would not be comfortable with that.Oh, yeah?Starting to feel her again there, are we?-A little bit. Yeah. -Yeah.Is your grandmother maybe saying that you should live here alone? You heard it too? You have the gift.Phoebe, it's okay.I like living with Joey.-Are you sure? -Please. I hate packing...it's closer to work. And we do have fun.Although, I'm really gonna miss living with you.-Oh, me too. -I know.Did you hear that?I'm getting something from your grandmother. She said since you get to keep the one-bedroom apartment...you should give Rachel the purple chair. No, I do not hear that. And the miracle was that that little bit of oil...that should have lasted just one day, burned for....-Eight whole days. -That's right. And that's why we celebrate Hanukkah today. The end.-Awesome. -Yeah.My favorite part...was when Superman flew all the Jews out of Egypt. The armadillo was actually not so thrilled about that part.Okay, Ben, it's time to light...the Hanukkah candles!嘿Wow! Looks like the Easter Bunny's funeral in here.Come on, come on. We're lighting the candles.I understand why Superman is here...but why is there a porcupine at the Easter Bunny's funeral? -You get it? -I got it.Back in the cage? It's back in the cage.Is the cage closed?Joey, will you just come out here and stop being such a baby!。

(Puts the skull on the table) ... ahhhh!Chandler: Pheebs?Phoebe: Huh?Chandler: Skull?Phoebe: Oh, yeah, it's my mom's.Rachel: (freaking out) Oh my god!!Phoebe: No, no, no. It's not! It's not my mom. It belonged to mom. Yeah, no, she used to put it out every Christmas to remind us, that even though it's Christmas, people still die. And, you can put candy in it. (She grabs the skull, pulls out a stick of licorice, and takes a bite.)stick n.棒状物/licorice n.(由甘草根熬成的)甘草精a stick of licoriceRoss: (entering) Hey!All: Hey!Monica: (Offering Ross the skull) Licorice?Ross: (Thinking it over) Sure! (Takes one) Hey, I just found out, I get Ben for the holidays this year. All: Ohh! That's great!Monica: Are you gonna dress up as Santa?Ross: Nope. I mean, I know Susan does every year, but I think I wanna take this year to teach him all about Hanukkah.Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday beginning on the 25th day of the month of Kislev, which may fall anytime from late November to late December. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days - which was the length of time it took to press, prepare and consecrate(vt.用作祭祀献给) new oil.(=Chanukah)(犹太教的)献殿节光明节(每年12月左右,为期8天)Phoebe: And maybe I could teach Ben about the Christmas skull and how people die.skull n. Rachel: You may need to use this year to teach Ben about Phoebe.Ross: Hmm.(Joey comes out of the bathroom reading a newspaper)Joey: Hey. When we get married, are you gonna change your last name to Bing?Monica: No.Chandler: Why not?Monica: Bing's weird.Chandler: Yeah, I know what you mean.(sarcastically) Gellar!Phoebe: (entering) Oh, hey, you guys!Chandler: Hey!Monica: Hey!Phoebe: Hey. Guess what! My landlord just called and my apartment is gonna get ready soon, so I guess I'll be moving out.landlord n.房东Monica: Ahh, Phoebe, I'm gonna miss you!Phoebe: Yes, you will be very sad. All right, well I gotta go tell Rachel the good news.Chandler: Ohh! You guys gonna be living together again?Phoebe: Yeah, why not?Chandler: Well, she's just having so much fun with Joey, I just assumed, she'd still be living with him.Phoebe: Why do you think, she's having so much fun living with Joey?Chandler:No reason, except…she…told…me.Phoebe:Really? Drums![Scene: Michelle's, Chandler and Monica enter.]Chandler: (to the maître d') Hi, could we get two burritos to go, please? (Laughs.)The maître d' (short for maître d'hôtel, literally "master of the hall") in a suitably staffed restaurant is the person in charge of assigning customers to tables in the establishment, and dividing the dining area into areas of responsibility for the various servers on duty. Though the distinction between a maître d'hôtel and host is, in practice, one of nomenclature(n.术语), less elite establishments employ a "host".<法>餐厅领班burrito n. Monica: I'm sorry. (Shows her his left hand with the money in it)[Scene: Ross's apartment, Ross is whirling Ben around.]Ross: Wooooooo, hehehe. Hey, ahh, you don't feel like you're gonna throw up, do ya?Ben: No.Ross: Well, I do, so let's... Hey, you guys. Hey, what are you doing?-Figuring out our wedding plans. -Funny. We were doing the same thing. It's really crazy. The hall, the dress, the food.-I had no idea how expensive this was. -Yeah, it is really pricey.-I freaked when I heard the numbers. -So, what did you two do about it?It was simple. I came up with some cost-cutting solutions..wrote out a list, and Monica told me to go to hell. There's no way around it. Just accept that this is gonna cost a lot of money.I heard that weddings are, like, a $40 billion-a-year industry.Yeah. And I'm responsible for just, like, half of that.I don't know. It's a lot of money to spend on one day.Hey, I've been married before, I don't need a big wedding. All I ask is that you don't do ecstasy and make out with my brother. But really, it does seem like this money could be put to better use.Hey, you could buy a ton of Amway products.-Or give it all to charity. -Oh, that's great. How am I gonna unload all those Amway products? Are you serious?Yeah. How would you feel if we gave all the wedding money to charity.. and we just got married at City Hall?I think it would make me wanna marry you even more.I gotta say, you guys, that's an incredible gesture.Maybe you do that next time you get married. No, no, no. The next time's gonna be Hawaii at sunset. But maybe the time after that.00:01:43,090 --> 00:01:44,020-Hey. What's going on? -Hey.Our adoption social worker is coming, so we're cleaning the apartment. "We"?You know you don't want me to help. You can't have it both ways.Is this the person who decides whether or not you get a baby?-She's coming to see where we live. -And it has to go perfectly. If she doesn't like us, she can keep us off every adoption list in the state. Hey, maybe I should stop by. She could be a soap opera fan. It's very impressive when the little people know a celebrity."Little people"?"Celebrity."So I think I'm just about done here.Unless you have any bad stuff hidden somewhere, like porn or cigarettes? What?-No. -Chandler.I don't, and I'm offended by the insinuation. So there's not a magazine under the couch..or cigarettes taped to the back of the toilet tank..or a filthy video in the VCR?I'll admit to the cigarettes and magazine. But that tape is not mine.-It isn't mine. -I guess we'll never know whose it is.May I help you?Yes. We're here to make a rather sizable donation to the children.Any contribution, large or small, is appreciated.I think you're gonna appreciate the crap out of this one.-Well, this is very generous. -And we don't want any recognition. This is completely anonymous.Completely anonymous. From two kind strangers.Mr. X and Phoebe Buffay. We can put your names in our newsletter.-Not necessary. -Buffay is spelled B-U-F-F-A-Y.And X is spelled "Mike Hannigan."Possible headline: Attractive Couple Makes World Better.Well, on behalf of the children, thank you both very much.-I'm glad we did this. It feels so good. -It does. It feels really good.Oh, look. And we get these free T-shirts.Actually, that's the shirt I wore to the gym. It's moist.-Hi. Emma will be up in a minute. -Oh, good.Hey, Ross, listen. I heard about you and Charlie. I'm really sorry. That's okay. I'm sure there are tons of other beautiful paleontologists out there. -Absolutely. -There was one. She's it.All the rest look like they should live under a bridge. So, what are you gonna do today?I was thinking of taking Emma to the playground.Oh, my God. What?Like I said, I was thinking of taking Emma to the Museum of Knives and Fire. Okay, look, Ross. I do not want Emma going to the playground. Because..?All right, if you must know, I had a traumatic..swing incident when I was little.-Seriously? -Yes. I was 4 years old.And I was on the swing..and then all of a sudden my hair got tangled in the chain. And to get me out, my mom had to cut a big chunk of my hair. And it was uneven for weeks. And you made it through that?I wonder who's gonna play you in the movie.Okay, fine, you can make fun of me. I do not want Emma going there. And I was thinking Claire Danes.Look, I'm sorry to hear about your tragedy. But the swings are perfectly safe. And besides, Emma loves them.-You should come, and you'll see. -Those things go, like,40 miles an hour. And there's that moment when you're at the top..when you just don't know if you're gonna return back to Earth.Space is filled with orbiting children.Look, please, just come on.When you see the look on Emma's face, I swear, you won't regret it.-All right. -Good.You don't wanna be a mom who passes her irrational fears to her children. "Irrational, " huh?I'll remember that next time you freak out about a spider in your apartment. That's the same. I'm sure there are 30 different species of poisonous swings. Oh, my God. The adoption lady is early.Okay. Okay. Here we go. Here we go.Stand up straight.Big smile.Hello. Is this the Creepy residence? We're waiting for the adoption lady. But I'm glad you're here.I was cleaning this morning and I found this.I don't know if you wanna use it, but..Oh, this is so sweet of you.But I won't be needing a veil. I actually won't be wearing a dress at all.I told you, I am not coming to a naked wedding! No. We're not having a big reception. We took the wedding money and donated it to a children's charity. That's crazy!-Generous. -Crazy generous.I'm sorry. I can't imagine giving up my one wedding day like that.Well, we're different. I don't care about having a huge party. This is really nice for you, but..Oh, please. I put this on and I just look like..Well, radiant. All right, but who cares? I don't need a pretty veil and a fancy dress. That's right. You're making a commitment. You know, that's the same whether you do it at the Plaza or..-Where you gonna do it? -City Hall.Oh, that sounds nice.I was just there for jury duty. They've really spruced that place up. Okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. I've made my decision. What I really want is a great big wedding.-But you gave all the money to charity. -Well, I'll just ask for it back.-I don't think you can do that. -Why not? This is her wedding day. That's way more important than some stupid kids. That's sweet, honey, but save something for the adoption lady.-All right, okay. Be careful. -Okay.Careful. Watch her hair. Watch her hair!-Rach, she's got, like, three hairs. -I know. I know. But they're just so beautiful. Oh, my God, I just pulled one out.I promise you she's safe. Watch how much she loves this.-Okay. Okay. -Are you ready, sweetie? Here we go.Okay, careful. Okay. She's smiling.Look at that, she does like it.See, I told you.Oh, my God. Look at her, she's a little daredevil.-Oh, God. Let me push. Can I push? -Oh, absolutely.Oh, God. Okay, get the camera. It's in the diaper bag.Okay.See? Scared of the swings. I bet you feel pretty silly.-We're asking for the money back? -It's for our wedding day. Now, is this guy gay or straight? Because one of us has to start flirting. You here to make another donation the same day?I don't think that's ever happened before.Gay. Go.Oh, my God, I love your shirt. The donation we made earlier? Well, we want it back.Excuse me?Okay, that money was for a big wedding we thought we didn't want. But it turns out we do.So you're asking us to refund your donation to the children?Yeah. This feels really good.I'm sorry. I am. But this wedding's just really important to me.Hey, it's none of my business. Besides, this is probably a good thing. We've really been spoiling the children, what with all the food and warm clothing. That's not fair. A person's wedding is important. And especially to me.I didn't have a graduation party. And I didn't go to prom. And I spent my sweet 16 being chased around a tire yard..by an escaped mental patient who, in his own words, wanted to:"Kill me, or whatever."So I deserve a real celebration. And I'm not gonna let some sweaty little man make me feel badly about it.She could've been talking about either one of us.Okay. Here we go.Good luck.Tongue, really?Hi, I'm Laura. I'm here for your adoption interview.Hi, I'm Monica. And this is Chandler.-Please come in. -Thank you.-Would you like something to drink? -Water would be fine. We're so glad that you're here. We're excited about getting this process started.Because we love kids. Love them to death.Well, not actually to death. That's just a figure of speech. We love kids the appropriate amount..as allowed by law.-Your place is just lovely. -Thank you.Yes, this building does have a wholesome, family feel to it.I feel like I've been here before. Any other couples in the building adopting? Is that that couple on the first floor? We should get a baby before them. That guy tried to sell me drugs. But other than that, wholesome, wholesome building.-What? -I realized why I remember this place.-Really? What is it? -Oh, it's nothing.I went on a date with a guy who lived in this building. It didn't end very well. That wouldn't, by any chance, be Joey Tribbiani?-Yes! -Of course it was.We had a great night. In the morning, he promised he'd call and he didn't. Rat bastard!-So you're not friends with him? -Oh, God, no.-No, no, no. -No. Nope.Well, I'm sorry I brought it up.So are either one of you planning on staying at home?Hello? Anybody in there order a celebrity? What was that? That's just some crazy guy who roams the halls here. He's great with kids, though.-Ross. Oh, my God, are you okay? -Son of a bitch!Oh, relax. I didn't say the F-word.Ross, see, I told you! Those swings are evil! That's the last time Emma is getting on one of those things for her entire life. No, no, no. Okay, it wasn't the swing's fault. It was my fault. And kind of that kid's fault.Who is still laughing. Nice.Come on. Can we just get out of here before somebody else gets hurt? No. Wait. I have an idea. I want you to get on the swing..and you'll see that there's nothing to be afraid of.I know what this is all about. You've always been jealous of my hair.I just think you're an adult, okay? And you should get over your silly fears. -All right, fine. I'll do it. -Good.-If you hold a spider. -Where?! Where?!If you hold a spider.I know.Guys, is everything okay? It's me, Joey.Adoption! What's going on?Oh, it's just like I said, that crazy..Bert, roaming the halls.-Guys? -Keep on roaming, Bert!We don't want any crazy today! Is he all right out there by himself?Oh, yeah. He has a caretaker. His older brother..Ernie.-Bert and Ernie? -You can't make this stuff up.-What's going on? -We'll talk later! Everything's fine!Everything doesn't sound fine.Bert and Ernie have a big yellow bird. You never told me about that guy and your sweet 16.-I'm sorry about that. -Oh, it ended okay. One of my friends shot him.At least you'll get a proper wedding. You really deserve that.Yeah, I really do. You know, I had nothing growing up.Just like the kids I took the money from.No. No, no. I see where this is going. Don't make me go back there.I'm sorry, but I want to regive the money to the children. But we can't. I mean, you called that guy a sweaty little man.Unless you were talking about me. We never really cleared that up.Look, I can't have a wedding with this money now. It's tainted.Fine, we'll give the money back.If that guy at the charity gives us a hard time..my friend hasn't shot anyone in a really long time.I must say this seems like a lovely environment to raise a child in.You are welcome to look under any of the furniture..because, believe me, you won't find any porn or cigarettes under there. Before we look around, let me make sure I have everything I need up to here. Why don't I show you the baby's room.-What are you doing? -You wouldn't let me in.-I thought you were in trouble. -Well, we're not.But you called me "Bert."That's our code word for danger.-We don't have a code word. -We don't?We really should. From now on, "Bert" will be our code word for danger. So that was the baby's room.-What room should we see next? -Any room that isn't behind this couch. Some people don't get him, but I think he's really funny.I did not care for that. You have to leave. You slept with our social worker and never called her back. She is still pissed, so she can't see you.Okay, okay.-What? -I forgot my bat.Oh, my God.And for the last time, we do not want to be friends with you!And we don't wanna buy your bat! What are you doing here?Bert. Bert. Bert. Bert.-Are you friends with him? -I can explain.Joey? All right. Okay. You have got some nerve coming back here.-I can't believe you never called me. -Excuse me?You probably don't even remember my name. It's Joey, by the way. And don't bother telling me yours, because I totally remember it, lady.I waited weeks for you to call me.I gave you my number. You never called me.Don't try to turn this around on me.I am not some kind of social work..that you can just..do.-I'm pretty sure I gave you my number. -Really? Think about it. Come on. You're a beautiful woman. Smart, funny. We had a really good time.If I had your number, why wouldn't I call you?I don't know.Well, maybe I'm wrong. I'm sorry.Hey, too late for apologies. Okay? You broke my heart. You know how many women I had to sleep with to get over you?-Joey, wait.. -No!I waited a long time! I can't wait anymore.I'm sorry that you had to see that. I'm so embarrassed.-Oh, that's really okay. -Yeah. We totally understand.-Dating is hard. -Boy, you people are nice. And I've got to say..I think you're going to make excellent parents.Laura! We're back. Are you here to take more money?Because I think what you're looking for is an ATM.No, no, we're here to give the money back.Yeah. Because you know what? It's all about the children.Although it's also about the wedding. All right, here. No. Oh, God.If I haven't said so already, sir, congratulations.Oh, wait. Wait. What if we give half to the charity and we keep half?Or, no, like,75 percent for us and 25 percent for.. Or, no, like,90-10. Okay, you know what? Enough, all right?I'm stepping in and putting my foot down.As your future husband, I'm gonna make this decision for us.What do you think we should do?-It's not your decision anymore. -What?On behalf of the children of New York, I reject your money.-But we're giving you this. -And I'm giving it back to you.Come on. Consider it a contribution.Well, this is very generous.Take the check. Have a great wedding and a wonderful life together. Sounds good to me. We can save up, come back in a few years.. and make an even bigger donation. And when you do, ask for Brian.-Oh, is that you? -No.Hello?Oh, hi.Oh, my God, really? I can't wait to tell Chandler.Okay. Goodbye.-Wrong number? -That was Laura. She gave us a great report and we're officially on the waiting list.-That's great. -Now we just wait for a call..and someone tells us there's a baby waiting for us.Hello?Have you seen Joey's bat?Okay. I got a spider. There were two, I picked the bigger one.-Okay. -Okay.This feels perfectly normal.Okay, get on the swing.Okay.Okay.Okay.-See? -All right. I can do this. There you go. Good for you.You know what? I'm getting used to this little guy.-I don't even feel him in here anymore. -That's because he's on your neck. 353。

Tonka

【701】The One With Monica's Thunder1.steal one's thunder 【705】The One With the Engagement Picture1.rachle:I just spread him on a cracker. cracker 脆饼干2.monica:Do you really want to pull at that thread?pull at that thread 3.Ross:I don't give a tiny rat's ass. I don't give a/an d*mn / f*ck / sh*t / ass... I don't give a tiny rat's ass. 【706】The One With the Nap Partners1.Wow, this cologne really is every bit as good as Georgio哇,这种古龙水的香味和Georgio香水一样好闻.2.Skidmark.

【707】The One With Ross's Library Book1.for crying out loud (感叹词) 真是的; 拜托你好不好就跟for god's sake一样,都是表示说话者负面的评价,犹如中文里"搞什么名堂!","乱七八糟!"

You have got to try this cheesecake. You know, I'm not that much of a sweet tooth..Oh, my God, it's so creamy! That's the best cheesecake I've ever had!Where did you get this?It was at the front door when I got home. Somebody sent it to us. This isn't addressed to you. This is addressed to Mrs. Braverman downstairs!Thief!I didn't read the box before I opened it...and you can't return a box after you opened it!-Why not? -Because it's too delicious! You stole this cheesecake. That's wrong. No, it'll be okay because Mrs. Braverman will send for a free one. That way, we all win.The only losers are the big cheesecake conglomerate..."Mama's Little Bakery."I feel terrible.I'm a horrible, horrible person.I'm sorry, what? The One With All The Cheesecakes22You know how I'm in a coma?Today they do a test on me and it turns out I'm not brain-dead. So..Mr. Smarty Pants. It's just my character that's not brain-dead.Phoebe, still on for tonight?-Absolutely. -I'll see you at 8.What's at 8?Dinner. We get together about once a month to discuss the rest of you. Wow! Did not know that.May I say how lovely you look today?Duly noted.zSo for tomorrow, do you want to rent a car and drive down together? -What are you talking about? -Cousin Frannie's wedding. You were invited? No.Oh, my God, I can't believe this.I thought only Mom and Dad were invited. From the ages of 7 to 9, Frannie and I were inseparable.Maybe since the age of 9, Frannie's made some new friends. It's probably just a mistake. Let me call Aunt Cheryl.Maybe you are invited and the invitation got lost in the mail. You call her and tell her that when we were kids...her precious Frannie tried to undress me several times. If I hadn't stopped her, there wouldn't be a wedding to go to.She tried to undress me too.I used to undress my cousin Glenn.Joseph Francis Tribbiani, are you home yet?I think he's still out. What's wrong?I'll tell you, Rachel Karen Greene.I had plans with Joey, and he left me this note."Phoebe, can't make it. Got a date. Talk to you later."Big Daddy."-"Big Daddy"? -That's a nickname we were trying. You know what nickname never caught on? "The Ross-a-tron." Here's Joseph Francis!Wait, what are you middle-naming me for?I left you a note. That doesn't give you the right to ditch me!You can cancel plans with friends if there's a possibility for sex. He's right. That is the rule.I don't accept it. When we make plans, I expect you to show up. I'm not a way to kill time till you meet someone better. Boyfriends and girlfriends will come and go, but this is for life. I'm so sorry. I had no idea it would bother you this much. Well, it does.Well, can I make it up to you?I'm sorry. How about dinner tomorrow night? I'll pay for myself.Okay, you wore me down. While you're over there, how about a beer for "The Ross-a-tron"? "Ross.." Is that back? The other cheesecake came. They delivered it here again.Just bring it downstairs. What's the problem?I can't seem to say goodbye. Are you serious? We ate an entire cake two days ago and you want more?Well, I've forgotten what it tastes like.It was cheesecake. It was fine.It had a buttery, crumbly, graham cracker crust...with a very rich...yet light cream cheese filling.Wow, my whole mouth just filled with saliva.Know what? Forget it. We're just hungry. We haven't had lunch. We're just lightheaded. So let's go have lunch and forget about the cheesecake. We'll drop it off so we're not tempted.-Where do you want to eat? -Mama's Little Bakery, Chicago.Mei Torme died.Joey, that paper's like a year old.Does that mean the Sam Goody's sale is over? So, I finally heard back from Aunt Cheryl...and apparently it wasn't a mistake. There's limited seating..Limited seating? I am just one tiny person!Yeah, but she doesn't know that.I mean, the last time she saw you...you'd have turned one of those little wedding chairs into kindling. "Limited seating." That's such a lame excuse. That's not the reason she's not inviting me.What's the big deal? I wasn't invited to the ceremony, just the reception. If it makes you feel any better, Joan and I will just make an appearance... and then we'll leave early as a sign of protest.-Joan? -Yeah, my date.Assistant professor in linguistics. Tall, very beautiful. And despite what some people say, not broad-backed.Wait a minute. You got "Ross Geller and Guest"?I wasn't invited, and you got "and Guest"?Excuse me, I do have to interrupt on Ross' behalf.I think the rule applies here.Since he has a chance to get on broad-back..Not broad-back!Wait a minute. You're bringing me.I can't cancel on Joan.-Why not? -Did you not hear me?She's an assistant professor in the linguistics department. They're wild.-Why do you want to come anyway? -Because...she's my cousin.I mean, we grew up together.Family, you know? And all that's important to me.Okay, all right. I'll take you.I'll go call Joan.Oh, that's nice.Family should be there. It's her wedding. Happiest day of her life. We'll see.Well, thank you for lunch.Wait, I thought you paid.Apparently, we don't pay for food anymore.-Do you see what I see? -It's still there.Mrs. Braverman must be out.She could be out of town. Maybe gone for months.By then, it may spoil. She can't come back to bad cheesecake. -It could kill her. -Don't want that. We're protecting her.-We'll take it. -But quick.-Why? -I hear her in there.Go! Go! Go!Oh, my God, that's David.-Who? -David, the scientist guy.David that I was in love with.Who went to Russia and broke my heart, David.Oh, my God!Say their name enough, they turn around.Phoebe.David.What are you doing? Aren't you supposed to be in Russia?I'm just in town for a conference.God, you look phenomenal.Well...Yeah.You look great too. Did you get a haircut?Yeah. Well, I got like 30 of them.Look, I got a confession to make.I was hoping to run into you here.I didn't know if I should call. I was only in town a few days...and I didn't want to intrude on your life.I really wanted to see you...but I didn't know if you wanted to see me.Of course I would want to see you. I think about you all the time. Really? Because I think about you all the time. There's a statue in Minsk that reminds me of you so much. It's actually of Lenin...but, you know, at certain angles...Anyway, do you want to have dinner tonight?Yes.Oh, no!-What? -I can't.I can't believe I have plans. Can you do it tomorrow? No, I have to go in a few hours. I have to be on the redeye.Listen, next time you're in Minsk...Phoebe? Can I talk to you for a second? What are you doing?I have plans with Joey. So? He'll understand. No, he won't. And that's not even the point.I made a whole speech about how you do not cancel plans with friends. And now just because, potentially, the love of my life...returns from Russia for one night...I should change my beliefs?I should change my beliefs! No. If I don't have my principles, I don't have anything. You're so strong.Or I should rush through dinner with Joey and meet David at 9.Oh, my God, that is so good!I'm full. And yet I know if I stop eating this...I'll regret it.Hey, what have you got there?Oh, it's...It's tofu cake. Want some? What are you doing tonight?Dude. Dude.Sorry.I got plans with Phoebe.Really? Monica said she had a date at 9.-What? Tonight? -That's what Monica said. After that speech, she makes a date on the same night she has plans with me? She's trying to pull a fast one on Big Daddy. Here, I think this is us.Limited seating, my ass.Let's see who made the cut.Hi. I'm Monica Geller.-How do you know the bride and groom? -I worked with Frannie.Used to work with her. Used to.I'm a relative and I didn't get invited.A blood relative. Blood.Stop saying "blood" to strangers. And you? How do you know the couple? We went to college with both of them. Now we live next door.Okay, you're fine.-Are you guys ready? -Yes.I'll have a green salad, house dressing and water's fine. And for you, sir?Yeah. This slow-roasted salmon...how slow are we talking? It's already been roasted.Oh, then no. Maybe I should hear the specials again. We've heard the specials three times. There's prime rib, mahi-mahi and a very special lobster ravioli.-Actually, we're out of the ravioli. -Well, that changes everything! You know what, Phoebe? You were right before.Friends are so important.Yeah, I'm very wise. I know.Know what I really want?-What? -Is to have a long, long talk. You know? Get Joey out on the open road and really open him up. -Any progress? -Yes.I will have the lobster ravioli.God, Joey, this is taking forever.-What's the rush? -Well...I have an appointment. And it's very important. What is it?Well...it's a date.A date? No, you must be mistaken, because you wouldn't have a date... on the same night you have plans with a friend.Don't make me feel badly. No, I'm gonna! You made me feel really guilty about going out with that girl.Like I did something terrible. Now you're doing the same thing. It's not! It's totally different! This is with David. Remember David, the scientist guy? He's very special to me.My girl the other night was special. She was a scientist too.-She was? -Well, she graduated high school.Whatever. Know what? He's only here for four hours and I'm gonna go see him.-Fine! -Yeah.What are you still doing here? I told you, lobster ravioli!I was about to leave. I didn't think you were coming.I wouldn't have missed this.Well, I'm very glad you're here.Oh, you're such a gentleman.Come on, we're going to my place. Are you eating the cheesecake without me?I will give you $100 to whistle right now.-How can you eat it without me? -What'll you do?Tell Monica or Joey? No, you'd have to tell them everything. We're dessert stealers. We're living outside the law.I don't trust you with this cake.I got it first, and I'm taking it back!-What? Oh, no. -Oh, yes.You think I trust you with it?No, we'll split it.That's not fair. You had some.I think Monica would be very interested to know...that you called her cheesecake "dry and mealy."What do we use to split it?All right, pick a half.Well, this side looks bigger. But there's more crust on this side.Maybe if I measure it..Pick a piece!-All right, I pick that one. -It's the smaller piece.Okay. There you go.Enjoy your half, my friend. But that is it.No sharing, no switching, and don't come crying to me...if you eat your piece too fast.-You gonna give me some of yours? -Oh, no.No switching, no sharing. And don't come crying to me.I may just sit here and have my cake all day.Just sit here in the hallway and eat my..Ross, sweetheart!Oh, hey, Aunt Millie.-Isn't it a beautiful wedding? -Yes, it is.Every time, on the lips! Why? Why on the lips? There's Frannie. Won't she be happy to see me?You be nice, all right?I didn't bring you to ambush her.Frannie was the one who showed your Playboys to Mom. That bitch.Monica!What..?Am I doing here? Surprised to see me?Ross brought me. How do you like that?Hi, Frannie. Congratulations. You invite my whole family, and not me? Why?Why wouldn't you want me here? What could I have done? Stuart!I believe you know my husband. So it's really a question of "who" could you have done.I hate this, but I have to go.I can't miss my flight.I bet there's another flight to Minsk in..July.That's really beautiful. What does it mean?"Please clean my beakers."I don't get out of the lab much.I thought it meant something else.Yeah, well, I really actually wanted to say...that.But I figured I probably shouldn't because...I have to leave. No, you're right. Don't say it.I do, though.I do too.Well, bye, Phoebe. Now's not the time, Joey. You can yell at me tomorrow.Wait, no, Phoebe. I'm not gonna yell at you.I just started thinking about you and David...and I remember how bummed you were the first time he left. Oh, Phoebe, come here.-Are you okay? -No, I'm not okay. The only guy I've ever been crazy about is going to Minsk... and I may never see him again. You could always visit him.Right. Like they'll let me have a passport.Anything I can do? Whatever you need.Well, now...if you achieve distillation of subatomic particles before he does... then he could come back.I could give it a shot.Oh, look! There's a piece that doesn't have floor on it. -Stick to your side! -Come on, now!All right, what are we having?Oh, wait, I forgot my wrap.Okay, wait here.Hi, sweetie! Are you leaving?-Well.. -Give us a kiss. Come on.Why? Why on the lips?。
