毕业生们，我将和你们一起离开密歇根大学。离开这里，你们将开始第一份工作，或者选择继续学习，而我将结束自己45年的高等教育生涯。
作为密歇根大学校长，与你们在一起进行我最后一次毕业演讲，我感到荣幸之至。
回顾我在密歇根大学的所有时光，给我印象最深刻的是所有密歇根的学子们。你们让我欣喜，激发我的灵感，当然，偶尔也制造一些小麻烦。
最重要的是，你们在密歇根留下了永恒的印记，也为这所世界上最伟大的公立大学之一作出了贡献。
50年前，在这个体育场里，林登·约翰逊(lyndon johnson)总统站在1964届毕业生面前分享他对一个伟大社会的憧憬。他谈到充满活力的城市，未受污染的河流与清新的空气。他认为，公立学校中的每一个孩子应不分阶级、不分区域，都享有优质的教育资源。
约翰逊告诉学生们，无论何人在何时都可以享有教育的机会。你们是未来的希望，你们可以为实现一个充满美德和精神信仰的社会尽一份力。

我仍然深受穆罕默德·达尔(mohammad dar)的启发，他是家里第一个上大学的人，那时他的四个哥哥都被关进了监狱。支付大学费用对他来说像一场战役。他的父亲把医保的钱省下来，又凑了一些钱供儿子上学。这注定是一个致命的选择——穆罕默德大三那年，他的父亲因癌症去世了。
