Microbeads（微珠） are tiny pieces of plastic in our everyday cosmetics（化妆品）. You may have not paid much attention to them up till now. But while they may help keep our skin and teeth looking good, many kinds of sea life are mistaking the tiny colorful balls for food.
Researchers find pieces of plastic in seawater. What makes this even more worrying is that plastic is known to be excellent at absorbing toxic pollutants（吸收有毒污染物） in water. It’s thought that these toxins could be making their way up the food chain and finally onto our plates. A plate of seafish could have up to 50 plastic pieces.
A number of countries have announced they won’t allow the using of microbeads, including the UK and the US. An environmental program suggests that we should stop using products with microbeads. They send people to schools to tell children there are a lot of products having microbeads. Some scientists are doing research to better understand the pollution of microbeads. They’re trying their best to create some environment-friendly products.
