These massive stone pyramids were built as tombs for the ancient Pharaohs over 4,500 years ago. They are so enormously huge, it's hard to even describe. We got to go inside one of them too, which was dark and cramped with tiny tunnels, but super awesome.After the pyramids, we saw the Sphinx statue next door. It's an incredibly old statue with the head of a person and body of a lion. The Sphinx just silently guards the pyramids like it has for thousands of years. I couldn't believe people back then had the ability to create something so enormous and built to last!The day after that, we visited the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. It has the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts in theworld inside. We saw so many crazy things like real mummies (creepy!), chariots, crowns, jewelry and more. My favorite was definitely the gold mask of King Tutankhamun. That mask alone is worth millions of dollars!Then it was time for a cruise down the Nile River on this big scenic boat. We sailed for a few days and stopped at historic sites along the way. One of the coolest was the Valley of the Kings, which is where the tombs for the Kings and powerful nobles from ancient times were built underground.The tomb of King Tutankhamun was found underground there by archeologists in 1922. We were allowed to go down inside the tomb and see the rooms where his mummified body was once buried. So creepy but amazing at the same time! We also stopped to view ancient temples like Luxor, Karnak, and Abu Simbel that were build thousands of years ago. I couldn't fathom how they were able to create such gigantic structures back in those times.After the cruise, we flew to the beach resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea. Finally, it was time for some real relaxation! We spent four days just hanging by the beach, swimming, snorkeling and having fun. The Red Sea is so beautiful, with crystal blue water and tons of fish to see whilesnorkeling. I even got to ride a camel along the beach one day which was a blast!All too soon, it was time to go back home to China.
