We use it in English without always noticing or appreciating it. It’s not much to look at. I t isn’t descriptive, emotive or inspiring. T echnically, it’s meaningless. And yet this dull and harmless-seeming word could be one of the most powerful words in the English language.“The” tops the lists of most frequently used words in English. accounting for 5% of every 100 words used. But why is this? The answer is two-fold. The principle of least effort plays a major part. So people use it a lot. At the same tim e. “the” lies at the heart of English grammar, having a function rather than a meaning. Words are split into two categories: expressions with a semantic(语义的)meaning and functional words like “the”, “to”, “for”, with a job to do.Although “the” has n o meaning in itself, “it seems to be able to do things in subtle and miraculous ways,” says Michael Rosen, poet and author. Consider the difference between “he scored a goal” and “he scored the goal”. The inclusion of “the” immediately signals something important about that goal. Perhaps it was the only one of the match? Or maybe it helped a team win the championship? Context very often determines sense. This simplest of words can be used for dramatic effect. At the start of Hamlet, a guard’s utterance of“Long live the King” is soon followed by the ghost: “Looks it not like the King?” Who, the audience may wonder, does “the” refer to? The living King or a dead King? This kind of confusion is the kind of “trick” that writers use to make us surprised and amu sed, a bit uneasy even. “‘The’is doing a lot of work here,” says Rosen.28. Which of the following describes the word “the” correctly?A. It is often overlooked.B. It is useless in practice.C. It is dull and descriptive.D. It is in every English sentence.29. The word “the” is frequently used because it is ________.A. brief and functionalB. popular and uniqueC. effective and emotiveD. meaningful and expressive30. What does the example in Paragraph 3 imply?A. “A” is not as important as “the”.B. Words should be understood in the context.C. It’s impossible to understand a single sentence.D. Some words have a clearer meaning than others.31. Why did the writer of the play stress “the” in “Looks it not like the King”?A. To show his confusion.B. To add drama to the scene.C. To repeat the guard’s words.D. To help the audience understand.DOur suits have four layers: thermal(保暖的)underwear on the inside, followed by an electrically heated bodysuit, a thick wool coat, and a half-inch-thick layer of rubber outerwear. There’re two layers of hoods, waterproof gloves and 35 pounds of weights. There are two batteries for the heated bodysuit, a backup gas container, and finally, my photography equipment. We look like astronauts minus the helmets. When we final ly dive into the freezing water, we’re wearing 200 pounds each. The cold quickly numbs(使麻木)the few square inches of exposed skin on our cheeks, and as the dive goes on. it spreads into our suits and gloves, biting even harder. It’s almost unbearable. Toward the end, as we’re pausing on. our way up to let thepressure drop, we search for anything to distract us from the pain. When we finally drag ourselves out of the freezing ocean, I lie face down on the ice, my brain dulled, my skin hard and wrinkled, my lips, hands, and feet swollen and unconscious(无知觉的)—then, as my body warms and the blood starts to flow again, the intense pain is at its worst. What could possibly make this worthwhile? The sight! Only a few species of seals, penguins, and other birds live in East Antarctica, and no land mammals at all. Below, it’s a rich garden. Antarctic marine(海洋的)life has been largely isolated from the rest of the planet for millions of years, ever since the continents separated from the other continents and froze over. Since then the powerful Antarctic Circumpolar Current has surrounded Antarctica from west to east, creating a sharp change in temperature that prevents the spread of marine animals. The long isolation has allowed a surprising diversity of species, unique to the region, to evolve on the seafloor. The waters under Antarctic ice are like Mount Qomolangma: magical, but extremely unfriendly. Nothing short of full commitment gets you anywhere. The demand is too great. But that’s what makes the images you see here so breathtaking, and the experience of having photographed them and of having seen this place so unforgettable.32. What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 1?A. How fully prepared the divers are,B. How entertaining a diver appears to be.C. How advanced modern technologies are.D. How heavy the astr onauts’ equipment is.33. The divers suffer the greatest pain when they ________.A. dive into the waterB. begin to resurfaceC. reach the deepest spotD. regain consciousness34. What do we know about marine species in Antarctica?A. They can be found elsewhere on the planet.B. They have unimpressive biological diversity.C. They experience sharp changes in temperature.D. They live relatively independently geographically.35. What makes the diving experience in Antarctica so worthwhile?A. The amazing scenery and pictures taken.B. The divers’ devotion to the tough task.C. The long-standing reputation of Antarctica.D. The challenging circumstances of the diving.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

During one interview, she noticed that the candidate never made direct eye contact. She was puzzled and somewhat disappointed because she liked the individual otherwise. He had a perfect résumé and gave good responses to her questions, but the fact that he never looked her in the eye said “untrustworthy,” so she decided to offer the job to her second choice.“It wasn’t until I attended a diversity workshop that I realized the person we passed over was the perfect person,” Tiffany confesses. What she hadn’t known at the time of the interview was that the candidate’s “different” behavior was simply a cultural misunderstanding. He was an Asian-American raised in a household where respect for those in authority was shown by averting (避开) your eyes.“I was just thrown off by the lack of eye contact; not realizing it was cultural,” Tiffany says. “I missed out, but will not miss that opportunity again.”Many of us have had similar encounters with behaviors we perceive as different. As the world becomes smaller and our workplaces more diverse, it is becoming essential to expand our understanding of others and to reexamine some of our false assumptions.Hire AdvantageAt a time when hiring qualified people is becoming more difficult, employers who can eliminate invalid biases (偏见) from the process have a distinct advantage. My company, Mindsets LLC, helps organizations and individuals see their own blind spots. A real estate recruiter we worked with illustrates the positive difference such training can make.“During my Mindsets coaching session, I was taugh t how to recruit a diversified workforce. I recruited people from different cultures and skill sets. The agents were able to utilize their full potential and experiences to build up the company. When the real estate market began to change, it was because we had a diverse agent pool that we were able to say in the real estate market much longer than others in the same profession.”Blinded by GenderDale is an account executive who attended one of my workshops on supervising a diverse workforce. “Through on e of the sessions, I discovered my personal bias,” he recalls. “I learned I had not been looking at a person as a whole person, and be ing open to differences.” In his case, the blindness was not about culture but rather gender.“I had a management positi on open in my department; and the two finalists were a man and a woman. Had I not attended this workshop, I would have automatically assumed the man was the best candidate because the position required quite a bit of extensive travel. My reasoning would have been that even though both candidates were great and could have been successful in the position, I assumed the woman would have wanted to be home with her children and not travel.” Dale’s assumptions are another example of the well-intentioned but incor rect thinking that limits an organization’s ability to tap into the full potential of a diverse workforce.“I learned from the class that instead of imposing my gender biases into the situation, I needed to present the full range of duties, responsibilit ies and expectations to all candidates and allow them to make an informed decision.” Dale credits the workshop, “because it helped me make decisions based on fairness.”Year of the Know-It-AllDoug is another supervisor who attended one of my workshops. He recalls a major lesson learned from his own employee.“One of my most embarrassing moments was when I had a Chinese-American employee put in a request to take time off to celebrate Chinese New Year. In my ignorance, I assumed he had his dates wrong’, as the first of January had just passed. When I advised him of this, I gave him a tong talking-to about turning in requests early with the proper dates.“He patiently waited, then when I was done, he said he would like Chinese New Year off, not the Weste rn New Year. He explained politely that in his culture the new year did not begin January first, and that Chinese New Year, which is tied to the lunar cycle, is one of the most celebrated holidays on the Chinese calendar. Needless to say, I felt very embarrassed in assuming he had his dates mixed up. But I learned a great deal about assumptions, and that the timing of holidays varies considerably from culture to culture.“Attending the diversity workshop helped me realize how much I could learn by simply asking questions and creating dialogues with toy employees, rather than making assumptions and trying to be a know-it-all,” Doug admits. “The biggest thing I took away from the workshop is learning how to be more ‘inclusive’ to differences.”A Better Bottom LineAn open mind about diversity not only improves organizations internally, it is profitable as well. These comments from a customer service representative show how an inclusive attitude can improve sales. “Most of my customers speak English as a second language. One of the best things my company has done is to contract with a language service that offers translations over the phone. It wasn’t until my boss received Mindsets’ training that she was able to understand how important inclusiveness wa s to customer service. As a result, our customer base has increased.”Once we start to see people as individuals, and discard the stereotypes, we can move positively toward inclusiveness for everyone. Diversity is about coming together and taking advantage of our differences and similarities. It is about building better communities and organizations that enhance us as individuals and reinforce our shared humanity. When we begin to question our assumptions and challenge what we think we have learned from our past, from the media, peers, family, friends, etc., we begin to realize that some of our conclusions are flawed(有缺陷的) or contrary to our fundamental values. We need to train ourselves to think differently, shift our mindsets and realize that diversity opens doors for all of us, creating opportunities in organizations and communities that benefit everyone.28. Tiffany’s misjudgment about the candidate stemmed from _______.A. racial stereotypesB. invalid personal biasC. cultural ignoranceD. emphasis on physical appearance29. What kind of organization is Mindsets LLC?A. A real estate agency.B. A personnel training company.C. A cultural exchange organization.D. A hi-tech company.30. After one of the workshops, account executive Dale realized that ____.A. he had hired the wrong personB. he could have done more for his companyC. he had not managed his workforce wellD. he must get rid of his gender bias31. What did Dale think of Mindsets LLC’s workshop?A. It was well-intentioned but poorly conducted.B. It tapped into the executives’ full potential.C. It helped him make fair decisions.D. It met participants’ diverse needs.DThat’s enough, kidsIt was a lovely day at the park and Stella Bianchi was enjoying the sunshine with her two children when a young boy, aged about four, approached her two-year-old son and pushed him to the ground.“I’d watched him for a little while and my son was the fourth or fifth child he’d shoved,” she says.” I went over to them, picked up my son, turned to the boy and said, firmly, ’No, we don’t push,” What happened next was unexpected.“The boy’s mother ran toward me from across the park,” Stella says,” I thought she was coming over to apologize, but instead she started shouting at me for disciplining her child, All I did was let him know his behavior was unacceptable. Was I supposed to sit back while her kid did whatever he wanted, hurting other children in the process?”Getting your own children to play nice is difficult enough. Dealing with other people’s children has be come a minefield. In my house, jumping on the sofa is not allowed. In my sister’s house it’s encouraged. For her, it’s about kids being kids:”If you can’t do it at three, when can you do it?”Each of these philosophies is valid and, it has to be said, my s on loves visiting his aunt’s house. But I find myself saying “no” a lot when her kids are over at mine. That’s OK between sisters but becomes dangerous territory when you’re talking to t he children of friends or acquaintances.“Kids aren’t all raised the same,” agrees Professor Naomi White of Monash University.” But there is still an idea that they’re the property of the parent. We see our children as an extension of ourselves, so if you’re saying that my child is be having inappropriately, then that’s somehow a criticism of me.”In those circumstances, it’s difficult to know whether to approach the child directly or the parent first. There are two schools of thought.“I’d go to the child first,” says Andrew Fuller, author of Tricky Kids. Usually a quiet reminder that ’we don’t do that here’ is enough. Kids nave finely tuned antennae (直觉) for how to behave in different settings.”He points out bringing it up with the parent first may make them feel neglectful, which could cause problems. Of course, approaching the child first can bring its own headaches, too. This is why White recommends that you approach the parents first. Raise your concerns with the parents if they’re there and ask them to deal with it,” she says.Asked how to approach a parent in this situa tion, psychologist Meredith Fuller answers:”Explain your needs as well as stressing the importance of the friendship. Preface your remarks with something like: ’I know you’ll think I’m silly but in m y house I don’t want…’”When it comes to situations where you’re caring for another child, white is straightforward: “common sense must prevail. If things don’t go well, then have a chat.”There’re a couple of new grey areas. Physical punishment, once accepted from any adult, is no longer appropriate. “A new set of considerations has come to the fore as part of the debate about how we handle children.”For Andrew Fuller, the child-centric nature of our society has affected everyone:” The rules are different now from when today’s parents were growing up,” he says,“Adults are scared of saying: ’don’t swear’, or asking a child to stand up on a bus. They’re worried that there will be conflict if they point these things out –either from older children, or their parents.”He sees it as a loss of the sense of common public good and public courtesy (礼貌), and says that adults suffer form it as much as child.Meredith Fuller agrees: “A code of conduct is hard to create when you’re living in a world in which everyone is exhausted from overwork and lack of sleep, and a world in which nice people are perceived to finish last.”“it’s about what I’m doing and what I need,” Andrew Fuller says. ”the days when a kid came home from school and said, “I got into trouble”. And dad said, ‘you probably deserved it’. Are over. Now the par ents are charging up to the school to have a go at teachers.”This jumping to our children’s defense is part of what fuels the “walking on eggshells” feeling that surrounds our dealings with other people’s children. You know that if you remonstrate(劝诫) wit h the child, you’re going to have to deal with the parent. it’s admirable to be protective of our kids, but is it good?“Children have to learn to negotiate the world on their own, within reasonable boundaries,” White says. “I suspect that it’s only certain sectors of the population doing the running to the school –better –educated parents are probably more likely to be too involved.”White believes our notions of a more child-centred, it’s a way of talking about treating our children like commodities(商品). We’re centred on them but in ways that reflect positively on us. We treat them as objects whose appearance and achievements are something we can be proud of, rather than serve the best interests of the children.”One way over-worked, under-resourced parents show commitment to their children is to leap to their defence. Back at the park, Bianchi’s intervention(干预) on her son’s behalf ended in an undignified exchange of insulting words with the other boy’s mother. As Bianchi approached the park bench where sh e’d been sitting, other mums came up to her and congratulated her on taking a stand. “Apparently the boy had a longstanding reputation for bad behaviour and his mum for even worse behaviour if h e was challenged.”Andrew Fuller doesn’t believe that we should be afraid of dealing with other people’s kids. “look at kids that aren’t your own as a potential minefield,” he says. He recommends that we don’t stay silent over inappropriate behaviour, particularly wi th regular visitors.32. What did Stella Bianchi ex pect the young boy’s mother to do when she talked to him?A. make an apologyB. come over to interveneC. discipline her own boyD. take her own boy away33. Due to the child-centric nature of our society,A. parents are worried when their kids swear at themB. people think it improper to criticize kids in publicC. people are reluctant to point our kids’ wrongdoingsD. many conflicts arise between parents and their kids34. In a world where everyone is exhausted from over work and lack of sleep, .A. it’s easy for people to become impatientB. it’s difficult to create a code of conductC. it’s important to be friendly to everybodyD. it’s hard for people to admire each other35. How did people use to respond when their kids got into trouble at school?A. th ey’d question the teachersB. they’d charge up to the schoolC. they’d tell the kids to clam downD. Also, children who slept for shorter periods at night were more likely to be associated with borderline personality disorder at ages 11 and 12.The research, published in the journalJAMA Psychiatry, was the first time possible links between early childhood sleep problems and adolescent psychotic experiences and borderline personality disorder (BPD) symptoms have been examined.“We know from previous research that persistent nightmares in children have been associated with both psychosis and borderline personality disorder,” said lead author Isabel at theInstituteofMental Healthat theUniversityofBirmingham.“But nightmares don’t tell the whole story. We’ve found that, in fact, a number of behavioral sleep problems in childhood can point towards these problems in adolescence,” she said.Adolescence, typically defined as the ages between 10 and 19, is a key period in human development because of brain and hormonal changes, anditis now thought to be when many mental health problems start.Prior research inAustraliafound that babies with persistent severe sleep problems in their first year were at greater risk for anxiety and emotional issues in later childhood. Sleep problems in children and adolescents have been shown to predict the development of various emotional and behavioral problems, including depression, anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, risk-taking and aggression. However, findings have been inconsistent, especially when based on objective measurements of sleep, rather than parental reports.Sleep and mental health are closely connected in adults, with sleep problems increasing the risk for developing particular mental illnesses as well as resulting in mental health issues.4. My family isn't one to give money for pictures of skinny, drunk famous person with paragraphs about their relationships and shopping cart times. Thus, I was excited to finally get a chance to read about other people's attractive yet troubled lives.Right away I noticed how each magazine seemed to be a copy of the other. They had headlines and pictures that were almost the same. Still, the pictures of perfect faces with cute designs going on with their daily lives made me read on.Wait, celebrities taking their dogs for a walk? Spending an afternoon at a park? All of these things seemed so ordinary-things my own family and I do together often. I suddenly realized how ordinary the people in these magazines were. They are simply normal people who happen to have a cool job and much money. For some reason, pictures of them doingthings like buying milk at the store appeal to millions of readers. Then, when these regular people mess up, their mistakes are painted onto hundreds of newspapers and Internet sites. What if every time we made a mistake, it was made public? Have you ever failed a test? Imagine seeing pictures of you on the front of a newspaper with headlines like,"Regular Schooling Isn't Enough".You'd be embarrassed. Now, I'm not necessarily taking the celebrity's side. I’m more realizing the fact that these people we are crazy about are just ordinary human beings with many photographs following them around. An American study of 10,000 students, over a period of 35 years, also found that if you make more friends than the average person at school, you'll receive a higher salary in later life. People need good social skills at work to manage people and work in a team successfully. These are the same skills we use to make friends at school. On average, teenagers aged between 15 and 17 have 500 "friends" on their favourite social networking site. Adults have 130. So if you believe this research, you might live for a long time and be very rich. However, according to Professor Robin Dunbar from the University of Oxford, it probably won't make any difference. Dunbar studied the number of messages between users of a popular social networking website, each of whom had between 200 and 2,000 friends. He found that they always communicate with a maximum of 150 people.Among these 150, Dunbar believes that around five people are close friends. You've mostly known them for a long time; they are probably old friends and you share all your good and bad experiences with them. Then there are ten more friends. Although they're close to you, you may not keep in touch with them every week. Next there are 35 people who you might spend time with because of a shared interest. You aren't close. And finally, there's a large group of 100. You see or speak to these people at least once a year, but you don't know them well. Beyond this number, Bunbar says, it's impossible to make any relationship meaningful. If you have a lot of online "friends", try this experiment: First take away anyone you haven't been in touch with for a year. Then remove people you can't remember and, finally, take away friends who you wouldn't mind losing touch with. How many do you have left? How many of these people are actually good friends? According to the research, these are the only people that really matter.8.What are the studies mentioned in the first paragraph mainly about?A.The number of friends you should have.B.The advantages of having a lot of friends.C.Some social skills you may need at work.D.Some useful advice on how to make friends.9.According to the American study, the most popular students at school ________.A.are likely to spend more money.B.may not be as popular at work C.seem to get better- paid jobs.D.will work harder in later years. 10.What does the underlined part "this number" in paragraph 4 refer to?A.10.B.35.C.100.D.150. 11.What does the text mainly want to show?A.You need to spend more time with your friends.B.Friends are sometimes more important than family.C.There is a lot of research on the influence of friends.D.It's more important to have good friends.DAdam Zibluk is a 15-year-old Life Scout (童子军) in Troop 70 in Newtown, CT. He was also recently the Troop’s Senior Patrol Leader, the highest ranking boy in the troop!Last summer, he, along with 15 other boys from the Troop completed scouting’s greatest adventure, backpacking over 50 miles in 7 days in the wilderness at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico! While Adam’s Scouting achievements are impressive on their own, his time in Scouts has not always been so easy. Adam has hemophilia, a medical condition that can cause severe bleeding from even a slight injury. And as a Boy Scout, spending much time out in the wilderness, it is quite common to get minor injuries. Because of his condition, Adam has had to miss some Scouting activities over the years. The first few days of Adam’s backpacking in Philmont went smooth. But on the 3rd day, while unloading his gear at a remote campsite, he felt a sharp pain in his back. Adam told theadult leaders about his back and that he was starting to not feel well. They made the decision to call Philmont base camp to seek medical attention. It was getting dark and rain threatened. Two doctors set out into the night on backcountry roads and then hiked in the last 1/2 mile to find Adam. They did some tests and decided to take him back with them to base camp. It was a tough moment for Adam and for the rest of the scout crew. While Adam returned to base camp, the rest of the boys backpacked on. To encourage Adam, they took one of his shirts with them and took photos of it along the way, which they sent to him.A few days passed and Adam was feeling better. The doctors cleared him to return to the backcountry! Finally, Adam finished the trek with his crew. He is now one of the only Boy Scouts with hemophilia to have ever participated in and completed a Philmont Trek. What encouraged Adam to take on this challenge despite the risk? “ I thought it would be fun and a good thing to do as long as I was prepared. And my parents have always encouraged me to not let hemophilia be the only factor in ANY decision.”12.What has stopped Adam from participating in some Scouting activities over the years? A.Inadequate trek experience.B.His fear of the wilderness.C.Lack of camping skills.D.His health condition.13.On the 3rd day of the Philmont Trek, ______.A.the team was caught in the heavy rainB.Adam needed medical attentionC.two doctors hiked all the way to find AdamD.the rest of the boys backpacked on with Adam’s shirt14.Why did Adam participate in this challenging activity?A.He was into it and enjoyed it.B.He was eager to be a leader. Let’s take family love as another example, we always take everything our parents do for us for granted, so we don't express gratitude to them and even repeatedly contradict them, making them sad. As for friendship, we are always used to the company of friends, so we often quarrel with them because of small things, and it is not until they leave us that we realize the value of friendship. In a word, we should cherish what we have now, don't wait to realize its value until we lose it, because if that happens, we can only regret.第二节(满分25分)One possible version:The family carried on with the experiment for the 6 months without technology controlling their lives. Ms. Margaret believes they all came out better for the experience. The children had a lot more interaction with each other and with their mother. Now that they could not text others, they had to actually see each other and talk. Meanwhile, the family played board games together, cooked meals together and read the newspaper together. Bill ended up developing a serious interest in music, and in Susan’s case, she improved her grades in school.Ms. Margaret wrote the book she had planned. The book became an immediate hit and aroused great interest among many parents. In her book and in interviews about the book, Ms. Margaret describes the pleasant changes that happened in her family and the progress her children have made. She encourages families to set aside special “screen-free days” where families unplug themselves and spend time together, which is exactly what her family have agreed to do after returning from an enjoyable family trip abroad.。

Role models? I'd think not. Personally, I'd rather favor people in any community who have done a lot instead of an ordinary person walking his dog in Berverly Hills.4.What do we know about the author's family?A.They often buy celebrity magazines. B.Extraordinary people who walk dogs. C.People who contribute money to communities. D.Celebrities who live an ordinary life. 7.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?A.To describe the actual life of celebrities.B.To ask us to be realistic about others' mistakes.C.To show people's different attitudes towards celebrities.D.To advise us to have a right attitude towards celebrities.CResearchers in Australia, who studied 1,500 people and their lifestyle, have found thathaving good friends can help you live longer. 2021年高考英语普通高等学校招生全国统一考试模拟试卷(二)(含解析)第二部分阅读(共两节,满分50分)第一节(共15小题;每小题分,满分分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

AGuide to Hiking on the Appalachian TrailHow do I “Leave No Trace on the Appalachian Trail?”At about 2,189 miles, the Appalachian Trail is the longest single unit of the National Park System. With the number of people visiting this place increasing each year, the chances are great that any of us may damage the natural environment along the Trail and affect the experience for others. So please do your part by following these hiking and camping practices, and encourage others to learn about and adopt these techniques.1. Plan ahead and prepare.Evaluate the risks associated with your outing, identify campsites and destinations in advance, and use maps and guides. Prepare for extreme weather, dangers, and emergencies –especially the cold –to avoid impacts from searches, rescues, and campfires. Learn when areas are most crowded and try to avoid those times.2. Dispose of waste properly.Pack out all trash and food waste, including that left behind by others. Don’t bury trash or food, and don’t try to burn packaging materials in campfires. Use the privy (茅房) for human waste only. Do not add trash. If there is no privy, dispose of human waste by burying it in a hole, a hole at least 200 feet (80 steps) from campsites, water sources and shelters, and well away from trails.3. Leave what you find.Leave plants, cultural artifacts (文物) and other natural objects where you found them for others to enjoy. Do not damage live trees or plants; green wood burns poorly. Collect only firewood that is dead, down, and no larger than your wrist. Leave dead standing trees and dead limbs on standing trees for the wildlife.4. Minimize campfire impacts.Use stoves for cooking –if you need a fire, build one only where it’s legal and in an existing fire ring. Keep fires small. Never leave your campfire unattended, and drown it when you leave. Do not try to burn trash, including plastic, glass, cans, tea bags, food, or anything with food on it. These items do not burn thoroughly. They create harmful fumes, and attract wildlife like skunks and bears.5.Respect wildlifeDon’t feed or disturb wildlife. Store food properly to avoid attracting bears, varmints, and rodents. If you bring a pet, keep it leashed.( )1.Before you hike on the Appalachian Trail, you are advised to _______. A.Leave your pet dog at homeB.bring some food for the wildlife thereC.prepare for bad weather and emergenciesD.avoid crowded periods and book a hotel in advance( )2.The underlined phrase “dispose of” probably means _______.A.take care of B.hide awayC.make use of D.get rid of( )3.If you need a fire on the Appalachian Trail, you should _______.
