ORIGIN(起源)
Qing Ming is popularly associated with Jie Zi Zhui, who lived in Shanxi provin 600 B.C. Legend has it that Jie saved his starving lord's life by serving a pif his own leg. When the lord succeeded in becoming the ruler of a small princiy, he invited his faithful follower to join him. However, Jie declined his invitationerring to lead a hermit's life with his mother in the mountains.
Believing that he could force Jie out by burning the mountain, the lord order
s men to set the forest on fire. To his consternation, Jie chose to remain wherwas and was burnt to death. To commemorate Jie, the lord ordered all fires in
y home to be put out on the anniversary of Jie's death. Thus began the "cold
feast", a day when no food could be cooked since no fire could be lit.
The "cold food" festival occurs on the eve of Qing Ming and is often consides part of the Qing Ming festival. As time passes, the Qing Ming festival replace "cold food" festival. Whatever practice is observed, the basic observation of Qing is to remember one's elders by making a special effort to visit their graves,
s or ancestral tablets. To make the visit even more meaningful, some time shoe spent to remind the younger members of the family of the lives and contributof their ancestors, and the story of Jie Zi Zhui who choose death over capitula

Qing Ming Festival and Its Origin
Qing Ming, which means clear and bright in Chinese, falls on April 5th this year.
It is both the fifth term in the traditional lunar calendar and a festival to hold
memorial ceremony for the dead. It is a time to express one's grief for his lost
relatives. An ancient elegiac poem, which described a grievous woman, was read that
vines tangled in vain and weeds crept in the graveyard, and her husband slept there
lonely. It was so difficult to endure for her as if summer in the day and winter
at night. And her only wish was to reunite with him after death.
People often go to sweep and weed graves with whole family and take a walk in the
countryside as well. In Tang Dynasty, the habit of taking an excursion on this day

清明节的由来(中英文解说) It is said that the Qingming Festival was originally held to commemorate Jie Zitui, a loyal man who lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. Jie cut a piece of meat from his own leg in order to save his hungry lord who was forced to flee from his own country. Later, when the lord regained his position, he forgot about Jie Zitui’s sacrifice. However, after being reminded, he felt ashamed and decided to reward the loyal man, but Jie had hidden in a mountain with his mother. In order to find Jie, the lord ordered that the mountain be set on fire. Unfortunately, Jie was found dead with his mother. In order to commemorate the day of his death, the lord declared the date to be Hanshi (Cold Food) Festival — the day that only cold food can be eaten. A year later, when the lord went to the mountain to commemorate Jie’s death, he found the burned willows had revived, so he gave instructions that the day after Hanshi Festival was to be Qingming Festival. Eventually, the two festivals were combined into one. 【相关英语词汇】 Cold Food Festival 寒食节 Day of sacrifice 祭祀节日
