1 Unit 12 CULTURE SHOCK Lesson 3 Living Abroad 教学设计 教材分析: 本课使用的教材是北京师范大学出版社的必修模块四 Unit 12 Lesson 3 Living Abroad 本课由2个中国人在外国,和3个外国人在中国遇到的共5件小事组成。课文句式简单、生词不多,所以我把教学重点放在文化的理解上,旨在让学生了解西方文化,从而提高阅读理解水平。 教学目标: 1. 语言知识目标: 通过对文章5个故事的阅读,帮助学生积累outgoing, appetite, embarrass, cautious, have a difficult time (in) doing sth., get/be ready to, stare at等词汇。 2. 语言技能目标: 培养和提高阅读(浏览、寻读主要事实)的能力,形成用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析问题、解决问题的能力,以及用英语思维来表达相关话题。最后,把讨论所得写成文章,锻炼写作能力。 3. 文化意识目标: 通过5个故事的理解、表演,让学生体验中西文化的差异,逐步形成文化交际意识和培养基本的跨文化交际能力,进一步拓宽国际视野,理解各国文化差异,尊重异国文化风俗。 4. 情感态度目标: 通过5个故事的选择性表演,激发、保持学生对英语学习的浓厚兴趣;通过小组讨论的形式,帮助学生养成团结合作的品质。 5. 学习策略目标: 学生能在一定程度上形成自主学习、有效交际和信息处理,用英语思维写文章。 教学重点: 采用任务式教学途径,通过个人活动(individual work)、2人或以上的小组活动(pair work, role play、discussion)多种形式考查学生对文章的掌握和理解程度。在导入部分多用全班齐答的方式辅以个人活动,在阅读训练过程中主要用pair work, 阅读结束后用discussion和role 2
play让学生把所学所感呈现出来。 教学难点: 使用多媒体教学,制作PowerPoint课件来呈现整个教学流程,课件中的video也是一个关于文化差异的情景故事,能引出话题且引起学生兴趣。尤其是培养学生对国外生活的文化差异的意识。 教学过程: Period 1 Step 1 Leading in We will learn an old saying as usual: Do as the Romans do. Watch a video about culture. Explain the culture shock together. In Chinese culture: You should be modest (谦虚的) when someone praise you. So when the foreigner said the Chinese girl is beautiful, she replies “哪里哪里”. However, in British culture, you should be happy and say thanks/thank you. So the foreigner couldn’t catch the girls meaning and he mistook that the girl asked him where he can see her beauty. And Chinese people is not as open(开放)as European, the waitress felt ashamed, so she poured the coffee onto the foreigner’s head. In fact, different countries or even different areas have different customs. In order to avoid getting confused, we must learn more about the other countries. And “Do as the Romans do.”入乡随俗。 T: At this class, let’s learn about culture shock between China and USA together. Please turn to Page 40. Look at the screen and please tell me together, what’s the title of Lesson 3? T: Good, and please have a quick look at the text, how many students talking about the experiences about their living abroad. (Yes, 5.) According to the name, we can see there’re 2 Chinese students and 3 Americans. Step 2 Fast Reading Listen to the computer and try to think about the following question. What’s the writer’s purpose of interviewing these five students from China and USA? A. To tell the readers that culture shock does exist between different cultures. 3
B. To share with the readers the five students’ experiences. C. To advise the readers to follow the different customs in different countries. D. To inform the readers that one should talk quietly in an American restaurant. Key: A Step 3 Intensive Reading Read the 5 passages and try to finish these 2 tasks. Task 1: 1. Jin Li found the American way of life familiar soon after her arrival in the USA. 2. We know Jin Li has at least one American friend. 3. Wang Lei never went back to the restaurant in New York again. 4. Martin stayed in China with a local family. 5.
