The Great Wall of China is considered to be the only man-made project visible from the moon. Although it was once thought to have been built entirely during the Qin Dynasty between 221 and 208 BC, it is now believed to have beenstarted earlier. The 15-foot-high, 25-foot-wide, 1,500-mile-long structurewas undoubtedly built to keep out invading enemies. To the common people of the empire, who had been forced to build the wall, it was not worth it, however. The wall, and otherpublic works completed by the Qin Dynasty, had caused great losses of wealth and human life in the country. As aresult,an angry population rose up in rebellion against the Qin Dynasty, and in 207 BC the Han Dynasty began.Because of its rich history and magnificent appearance, the Great Wall attracts tourists, scientists, and historians to this day and will continue to do so for generations. The Critical Period.Theme:disadvantage/obstacle/advisityThesis:Every fresh crisis we encounter is an opportunity in disguise.Subject:The Critical Period! The Critical Period was a decade during which the United States underwent a hardship under the Article of Confederation. The Articles had weakness that hamperedefficient operation of the gorvernment:with no provision for an executive branch,it lacked the ability to enforce lawsthat Congress passed, the Congress had no power to collect taxes, raise a military, coinmoney,or regulate interstate commerce. The desperate condition of people was made plain by the Shay’s rebellion and several meetings held by some states to modify the tariff walls that had been erected by each of the 13 states against imports from anyortherstates. The new nation was staggering. The Founding Fathers, who hoped to make America one place in world where freedom and love of humankind could flourish, soon realized the powerless central government under the confederation forms of country was undesirable and impratical. It turned outto the Philadephia Convention of 1787,which produced one of “the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man ”---The Constituition of United States. It established a federal forms of government that has a seperation of power among legislature, judicious and executive branch and a division of power between states and central government.Furthermore,it sets a great precedent for future generations seeking liberty and freedpm as Amerca did.

Laughing Matter-Woman Resorts to Comedy to Confront the Traumaof Cancer In a flash moment, I went from being a happy expectant mother, to being someone afraid for her life, she told reporters. Minutes after doctors delivered Nate by emergency C-section, Southcott went into surgery. The diagnosis was ovarian cancer. Suddenly tears and chemotherapy overtook her life. But the lowest moment came after she lost all her hair and a free wig arrived. She tried it on as her older son Kyler watched. I thought I can cry about this bad wig and hell remember it, or I can laugh about it and he will remember that, Southcott said. That was when she started laughing a lot, and found it was the perfect medicine. I spent a lot time looking for anything humor based for cancer patients, she said. And Ill tell you what: There isnt much out there. Using herself as a bald model, Bonnie started her own line of greeting cards and a calendar. Each pose pokes fun at the tribulations of chemo. We desperately need to laugh, she said. Its vital to our joy. Even though Southcotts ovarian cancer is in remission, the diagnosis is no laughing matter - a 25-percent chance she will live for another two-years. She plans to appreciate every moment of motherhood. And she plans to laugh.tips:感谢大家的阅读,本文由我司收集整编。

Directions:You have 25 minutes to plan and write an essay on the given topic. Do not write on another topic, as essays not on the topic receive a score of zero. You will be scored on how clearly and effectively.you express your thoughts in writing. Develop your point of view carefully, as your writing will be evaluated on quality, not quantity; but do plan on writing several paragraphs to cover the topic adequately.Write legibly (print if necessary) and be specific.Think carefully about the issue presented in the following quotations and the assigment below.“The general fact is that the most effective way of utilizing human energy is through organized competition.” —Adapted from Charles Horton Cooley“Focus on competition has always been a formula for mediocrity.” —Daniel BurrusDoes an emphasis on competition tend to improve or harm our society? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with rea-soning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.SAT写作例子The SAT Essay Sample:Competition has defnite benefts. It encourages people and organizations to try harder and do their best. That is why American society is largely organized around competi-tive battles. But a balance is needed. When there is too much competition, everybody loses.Take business as an example. When companies try to win at all costs, people often suffer. Companies fghting for sur-vival may lower their prices, which is good for customers. But companies locked in competition also fre workers, which can hurt thousands of families. Sometimes managers feel driven to use unfair tactics, as when companies exploit employees by failing to pay overtime wages. Competition that is out of control can hurt average Americans.Politics is another feld where competition has gotten out of hand. At one time, competition in politics took place only during elections. Now it is constant. Politicians call one another names, accuse one another of crimes, and run ads attacking each other. The high cost of campaign ads makes it hard for candidates who aren’ t rich to be elected. No wonder many Americans say they have come to hate politics. Now competition has even come to the T V screen. Today’s most popular shows are “reality” shows where people lie, cheat, and hurt each other. What kind of lesson about life does this send to young kids who may be watching? We will never do away with all competition – and we should not try to. But too much of agood thing can be bad and this is true of competition.。

In the thick of party conflict in 1800, Thomas Jefferson wrote in a private letter, "I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."This powerful advocate of liberty was born in 1743 in Albemarle County, Virginia, inheriting from his father, a planter and surveyor, some 5,000 acres of land, and from his mother, a Randolph, high social standing. He studied at the College of William and Mary, then read law.In 1772 he married Martha Wayles Skelton, a widow, and took her to live in his partly constructed mountaintop home, Monticello.Freckled and sandy-haired, rather tall and awkward, Jefferson was eloquent as a correspondent, but he was no public speaker. In the Virginia House of Burgesses and the Continental Congress, he contributed his pen rather than his voice to the patriot cause. As the "silent member" of the Congress, Jefferson, at 33, drafted the Declaration of Independence. In years following he labored to make its words a reality in Virginia. Most notably, he wrote a bill establishing religious freedom, enacted in 1786.Jefferson succeeded Benjamin Franklin as minister to France in 1785. His sympathy for the French Revolution led him into conflict with Alexander Hamilton when Jefferson was Secretaryof State in President Washington's Cabinet. He resigned in 1793.Sharp political conflict developed, and two separate parties, the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, began to form. Jefferson gradually assumed leadership of the Republicans, who sympathized with the revolutionary cause in France. Attacking Federalist policies, he opposed a strong centralized Government and championed the rights of states. As a reluctant candidate for President in 1796, Jefferson came within three votes of election. Through a flaw in the Constitution, he became Vice President, although an opponent of President Adams. In 1800 the defect caused a more serious problem. Republican electors, attempting to name both a President and a Vice President from their own party, cast a tie vote between Jefferson and Aaron Burr. The House of Representatives settled the tie. Hamilton, disliking both Jefferson and Burr, nevertheless urged Jefferson's election. When Jefferson assumed the Presidency, the crisis in France had passed. He slashed Army and Navy expenditures, cut the budget, eliminated the tax on whiskey so unpopular in the West, yet reduced the national debt by a third. He also sent a naval squadron to fight the Barbary pirates, who were harassing American commerce in the Mediterranean. Further, although the Constitution made no provision for the acquisition of new land, Jefferson suppressed his qualms over constitutionality when he had the opportunity to acquire the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon in 1803.During Jefferson's second term, he was increasingly preoccupied with keeping the Nation from involvement in the Napoleonic wars, though both England and France interfered with the neutral rights of American merchantmen. Jefferson'sattempted solution, an embargo upon American shipping, worked badly and was unpopular.Jefferson retired to Monticello to ponder such projects as his grand designs for the University of Virginia. A French nobleman observed that he had placed his house and his mind "on an elevated situation, from which he might contemplate the universe."He died on July 4, 1826.sat写作人物经典材料:Wolfgang Amadeus MozartWolfgang Amadeus Mozart(27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791), was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He composed over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers.Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood in Salzburg. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty; at 17 he was engaged as a court musician in Salzburg, but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position, always composing abundantly. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of Mozart's death. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized. He was survived by his wife Constanze and two sons.Mozart learned voraciously from others, and developed abrilliance and maturity of style that encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound. Beethoven wrote his own early compositions in the shadow of Mozart, of whom Joseph Haydn wrote that "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years."sat写作人物经典素材:笛卡尔Rene Descartes (1596-1650) is one of the most important Western philosophers of the past few centuries. During his lifetime, Descartes was just as famous as an original physicist, physiologist and mathematician. But it is as a highly original philosopher that he is most frequently read today. He attempted to restart philosophy in a fresh direction. For example, his philosophy refused to accept the Aristotelian and Scholastic traditions that had dominated philosophical thought throughout the Medieval period; it attempted to fully integrate philosophy with the "new" sciences; and Descartes changed the relationship between philosophy and theology. Such new directions for philosophy made Descartes into a revolutionary figure. The two most widely known of Descartes' philosophical ideas are those of a method of hyperbolic doubt, and the argument that, though he may doubt, he cannot doubt that he exists. The first of these comprises a key aspect of Descartes' philosophical method. As noted above, he refused to accept the authority of previous philosophers - but he also refused to accept the obviousness of his own senses. In the search for a foundation for philosophy, whatever could be doubted must be rejected. He resolves to trust only that which is clearly and distinctly seen to be beyond any doubt. In this manner, Descartes peels away the layers of beliefs and opinions that clouded his view of the truth. But, very little remains, only the simple fact of doubting itself, and the inescapable inference that something exists doubting, namely Descartes himself. His next task is to reconstruct our knowledge piece by piece, such that at no stage is the possibility of doubt allowed to creep back in. In this manner, Descartes proves that he himself must have the basic characterisitc of thinking, and that this thinking thing (mind) is quite distinct from his body; the existence of a God; the existence and nature of the external world; and so on. What is important in this for Descartes is, first, that he is showing that knowledge is genuinely possible (and thus that sceptics must be mistaken), and, second, that, more particularly, a mathematically-based scientific knowledge of the material world is possible.Descartes' work was influential, although his studies in physics and the other natural sciences much less so than his mathematical and philosophical work. Throughout the 17th and 18th Centuries, Descartes' philosophical ghost was always present; Locke, Hume, Leibniz and even Kant felt compelled to philosophical entanglement with this intellectual giant. For these reasons, Descartes is often called the "father" of modern philosophy. This article provides an overview of Descartes' philosophical thought following the order of his most famous and widely-studied book, the Meditations on First Philosophy.。
Do people benefit more from having many choices or few choices? In today’s society, people are faced with an abundance of choices in every aspect of their lives. From what to eat for breakfast to what career to pursue, the number of options available can be overwhelming. Some argue that having many choices is beneficial because it allows individuals to find the best fit for their needs and preferences. Others, however, believe that having too many choices can be detrimental to decision-making and ultimately lead to dissatisfaction. In my opinion, people benefit more from having few choices.Firstly, having too many choices can lead to decision paralysis. When presented with a large number of options, individuals may become overwhelmed and unable to make a decision. This can lead to procrastination, anxiety, and ultimately, dissatisfaction with the final choice. In contrast, having fewer choices can make decision-making easier and less stressful. For example, when choosing a restaurant for dinner, having a limited number of options can make the decision-making process quicker and more enjoyable.Secondly, having fewer choices can lead to greater satisfaction with the final decision. When individuals are presented with a limited number of options, they are more likely to carefully consider each one and choose the best fit for their needs and preferences. This can lead to greater satisfaction with the final decision because individuals feel confident that they have made the best choice possible. In contrast, when presented with a large number of options, individuals may feel that they have not explored all of the possibilities and may be left wondering if they made the right choice. Finally, having fewer choices can lead to greater appreciation for what is available. When individuals are presented with a limited number of options, they are more likely to appreciate what is available and make the most of it. This can lead to greater satisfaction with the final choice because individuals feel that they have made the most of what is available to them. In contrast, when presented with a large number of options, individuals may take what is available for granted and not appreciate it as much as they would if they had fewer choices. In conclusion, while having many choices may seem beneficial, I believe that people benefit more from having few choices. Having fewer choices can lead to easier decision-making, greater satisfaction with the final decision, and greater appreciation for what is available. Therefore, I believe that individuals should focus on making the most of what is available to them rather than constantly seeking out new options.。

这个例子很好的诠释了assignment, 即is there always another explanation or point of view。
简单来说当你说I feel tired的时候,老美会觉得很空洞,但如果你写的是dark circles under my eyes 那么它们就觉得很cute,很生动。
一旦今天用越南战争做例子来论证sth. unsuccessful can turn into something good,那么
In this disaster of the mankind, millions
and millions of people died, husbands and wives were forced to separate forever,
children were deprived the rights to even have a family,这样的语句放到二战中也能成立,那么你的文章就没有insightfully and deeply develop your example, 充其量只是蜻蜓点了一下水。
