Also, the fact is that more than 60 percent of eye problems at birth are ones resulting from the baby's parents! Thanks to data from the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC),which is trying to work out what every single gene in a mouse is responsible for, with the aim of translating it to humans, scientists are moving closer to figuring out all genetic causes of blindness. To do this, scientists separate a single gene from other ones at a time and then observe what effect it has on the mouse for a long time. This has so far been done more than7,000 times and has achieved great success.Researchers are now working alongside eye care centers in Texas and Iowa in order to compare the mice's genes to those of patients.(1)How many hereditary﹣sight﹣loss﹣related genes were newly found?A.86.B.261.C.300.D.347.(2)Why is the percentage of genetic eye problems mentioned in paragraph 3?A.To show the significance of studying mice's genes.B.To prove mice's genes are similar to humans'.C.To warn the high risk level of suffering them.D.To explain how common they are among people.(3)What should scientists do first to unlock secrets of genetic blindness?A.Compare humans' genes with mice's.B.Recognize each gene's role of humans.C.Set apart a gene of a mouse each time.D.Figure out each gene's function of a mouse.(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?A.New Ways to Cure Sight LossB.Genes Found Behind Eye ProblemsC.Genetic Diseases Discovered in MiceD.Humans Genes Causing Eye Diseases14.(8分)Research indicates that some orchestral(管弦乐的)instruments are in danger of dying out.YouGov research, asked by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO)to find the most popular instruments among schoolchildren, has revealed the increasing popularity of the ukulele (尤克里里琴),with one in eight expressing a desire to learn, making it the highest ranked instrument behind the typical rock﹣band grouping of the guitar, piano, keyboards, drums and bass guitar. But younger generations' interest in "more complex instruments" is decreasing, with thethree least popular being the French horn, the double bass and the trombone.James Williams, managing director of the RPO,believed the changes reflect the increasing pressure schools are under to provide music education, and went on to say that more needs to be done to interest secondary school students in the wider range of instruments. His concern was for the composition of future orchestras ,should the trend towards instruments like rock﹣band grouping be allowed to continue. But there may be yet another death, one that few would be quick to sorrow over:the recorder (竖笛).Cheap, convenient, easy to learn, and suitable for individual and group performances, the recorder was once the go﹣to instrument for children's early musical education. But in many schools it has been replaced by the ukulele, which, for teachers, offers many of the same benefits with none of the lasting damage to hearing.Plus, from a student's viewpoint:you can play Metallica on one.Not all hope is lost for the cream﹣colored,10﹣pound Yamaha recorder with a long history, however.About 13% of girls and 4% boys surveyed by YouGov said they wanted to learn the recorder.Surprisingly high! Unlikely as it may be,these children's interest in the recorder must be inspired.(1)What does YouGov research suggest?A.Schoolchildren determine the popularity of music.B.The ukulele is the most popular with students.C.Students generally prefer rock﹣band instruments.D.Orchestral instruments will disappear in the future.(2)What can we do to save orchestral instruments according to Williams?A.Stop teaching children to play rock and roll.B.Find means to inspire students' interest in them.C.Spend much more school time on music education.D.Offer free orchestral instruments to the public.(3)Why has the ukulele replaced the recorder widely?A.Because users can enjoy more advantages from it.B.Because the music played on it is more appealing.C.Because it is much cheaper and easier to learn.D.Because it stands for the world's music tendency.(4)What does the author stress in the last paragraph?A.Many children choose recorders as expected.B.It's time for younger learners to save music.C.We should respect children's choices for instruments.D.Recorders still have the potential for a bright future.第二节(共1小题;每小题10分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余选项.15.(10分)Healthy See,Healthy DoVisit the grocery store on an empty stomach, and you will probably come home with a few things you did not plan to buy.But hunger is not the only cause of additional purchases. The location of store displays also influences our shopping choices.(1)The checkout area is a particular hotspot for junk food.Studies have found that the products most commonly found there are sugary and salty snacks.(2) A 2019 study in the Netherlands found that hospital workers were more likely to give up junk food for healthy snacks when the latter were more readily available on canteen shelves, for example. In 2019 Norwegian and Icelandic researchers also found that replacing unhealthy foods with healthy ones in the checkout area significantly increased last﹣minute sales of healthier foods.(3)It has been working with more than 1,000 store owners to encourage them to order and promote nutritious foods."We know that the stores are full of cues (暗示)meant to encourage consumption," says Tamar Adjoian, a research scientist at the department,"Making healthy foods more convenient or appealing can lead to increased sales of those products."Adjoian and her colleagues wondered if such findings would apply to their city's crowded urban checkout areas,so they selected three Bronx supermarkets for their own study.(4)Then they recorded purchases over six three﹣hour periods in each store for two weeks.Of the more than 2,100 shoppers they observed, just 4 percent bought something fromthe checkout area.Among those who did, however, customers in the healthy lines purchased nutritious foods more than twice as often as those in the standard lines.(5)The findings were reported in September in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior. The potential influence may seem small, but Adjoian believes that changing more checkout lines would open customers' eyes to nutritious, lower﹣calorie foods.Health department officials are now exploring ways to expand healthy options at checkout counters throughout New York City.A.These foods give people more energy.B.They bought unhealthy foods 40 percent less often.C.And it may make or break some healthy eating habits.D.The supermarkets began to offer nutritious, lower﹣calorie foods.E.These findings caught the attention of New York City Department of Health.F.They replaced candies and cookies with fruits and nuts near the checkout counter.G.And a few studies have suggested that simply swapping in healthier options can shift customer behavior.第三部分:语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分)第一节:完形填空(共1小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项.16.(30分)It was late, about 10:15 p.m.,when Janice Esposito arrived at the Bellport train station;she jumped into her Honda Odyssey and began the 20﹣minute drive home to her husband. She'd just returned from visiting her mother and had traveled the route many times before. She practically(1)on autopilot:a left onto Station Road, then a left on Montauk Highway, and then﹣wham!
AThe Internet has revolutionized our lives to such an extent (程度) that for most people, the global network has become more than just a tool but rather an important aid in everyday life. More and more people go online as wireless networks have brought the Internet closer and closer: it’s on our mobile phones, in our cars and TV sets, in hospital surgery rooms and in fishing boats that battle the waves of the Atlantic. And this revolution has brought along with it a new way of shopping. Both big and small, e-business websites have flooded the Internet by the hundreds of thousands. Anything you can buy from a brick and mortar store (实体店) you can also buy online: from food and clothes to toys, no matter what you’re looking for, you’re bound to find the right online store with just a few clicks of the mouse. You can use the Internet to find new suppliers, post buying requests or search for products and services. This revolution has affected brick and mortar business owners greatly. And what was their reaction? They’ve opened online stores to go hand in hand with their conventional business. But do the big players have reasons to be afraid? Are we going to start seeing ghostly, deserted Walmarts (沃尔玛) across the country? Probably not in the near future but the day will come when most people will just stop shopping offline anymore. A trip to Walmart wastes time, burns gas.The recent advancements in mobile technology and the introduction of mobile phones with enhanced (提高的) web capabilities have even made some people order their groceries when they get out from work and have them delivered at their doorstep by the time they get home. And as “Time is money”, this practice is lifesaving for people whowork two jobs.Technology will continue to advance and e-business will follow closely in its footsteps. Everything will become easier and less time consuming, leaving us more time to enjoy the things that really matter in life: the ones we love, our friends and hobbies.1. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?A. The popularity of mobile phones.B. The great influence of the Internet.C. The importance of the Internet.D. The function of the global network.2. In response to the threat of online business, the brick-and-mortar store owners________.A. have stopped their traditional businessB. have started their dislike of the InternetC. have established their own websiteD. have opened their online stores3. Is Online Shopping the Future of E-business?BIt’s easy to do easy things, but they don’t carry the challenges and rewards of doing something difficult. Scott Kelly said he tried to express that view everywhere he went. And he spoke from experience, having spent a career that included the time as a NASA astronaut, US Navy captain, fighter pilot, and engineer.Scott spoke at the University of North Alabama, sharing stories about his experience of spending a year on the International Space Station (ISS). He said the physical pressure of living in weightlessness for a year was hard to describe and that the fluids(积水) in his head sometimes made him feel like he was standing on his head. It also needed some time to recover when he returned home. “My legs were weak and it would be uncomfortable to sit for a while because my body hadn’t had that pressure so long,” Scott said.He discussed life aboard including spending time with Russian astronauts. They came from different cultures. He had managed to get along well with everyone aboard as they lived together, worked together, and had to rely on each other. He thought it was one of the most rewarding things in his life.Though life there was not easy, Scott never regretted being an astronaut and going to space. He also discussed experiences growing up, admitting that he wasn’t always the greatest student but was able to overcome that through hard work and determination.“Never give up or lower your dreams. If you work for it, all things are possible. There is a zero percent chance of succeeding if you don’t even try. And when you succeed after trying hard, you’ll find it really rewarding,” Scott said in the end.4. Scott mentioned his experience in the ISS mainly to show ________.A. he enjoyed making speechesB. he was a responsible astronautC. his life in space was challengingD. the daily life of an astronaut can be boring5. What may benefit Scott most when he lived with Russian astronauts?A. He won some awards through teamwork.B. He found the fun of living in the Space Station.C. He learned to develop close relationships with others.D. He picked up some knowledge of Russian culture.6. Which of the following can best describe Scott?A. Kind and thoughtful.B. Curious and humorous.C. Easygoing and sociable.D. Hardworking and determined.7. What does the author intend to tell us from Scott’s story?A. It’s importantto have a dreamB. Easy things are also worth doingC. A suitable career leads one to success.D. Difficult things are demanding but rewardingCEvery racehorse has different abilities.Like humans, some are short- distance runners, while others are marathoners.Figuring out which is which and how to pace them can be the difference between failure in the finish and taking the award home.Jockeys(赛马骑师)and trainers have traditionally relied on centuries of experience and data from previous races to plan their races.Amandine Aftalion,a mathematician in Paris, thought she could add to that.Since 2013,she has been analyzing the performances of world champion runners like Usain Bolt. She has found that short-distance runners tend to win when they start strong and gradually slow down toward the finish line.Butin medium-distance races, runners perform better when they start strong, settle down, and finish with a burst of speed. Her model shows how those winning strategies maximize the energy output of muscles reliant on two different pathways:powerful aerobic(有氧的)ones that require oxygen, which can be in limited supply during a race, and anaerobic ones, which don't need oxygen but build up waste products that lead to tiredness.Aftalion wondered which strategy would be best for horses. So she and Quentin Mercier, anothermathematician, took advantage of a new GPS tracking tool inserted in French racing saddles(马鞍).The two studied patterns in many races at the Chantilly racetracks north of Paris and developed a model that accounted for winning strategies for three different races:a short one(1,300 meters),a medium one (1,900 meters),and a slightly longer one (2,100 meters),all with different starting points on the same track. The modeltakes into account not just different race distances, but also the size or friction fromthe track surface. The results might surprise jockeys who hold horses back early for bursts of energy in the last finish.Instead,a strong start leads to a better finish, the team found.“That doesn't mean those jockeys are wrong, though. If the start is too strong,it can bedevastatingas well, leaving the horse tired by the end,” Aftalion says.8. What should a runner do to get an award according to the text?A. Make a good start.B. Plan for the race early.C. Run slowly on the starting line.D. Try runningquickly all the time.9. What formed the basis for Aftalion's studying horse race?A The experience and data from previous horse races.B. The benefit of knowing horses' different abilities.C. The success in studying runners' winning strategies.D. The performance of horses on different race distances.10. What does the underlined word“devastating”in the last paragraph mean?A. Boring.B. Damaging.C. Astonishing.D. Puzling.11. What can we infer from the text?A. Runners have the same energy output of muscles.B. Aftalion's findings may help horses to win the race.C. What Jockeys and trainers do makes no sense to horses.D. World champion runners made a contribution to the study.DIn a world simultaneously on fire and underwater thanks to climate change, scientists have announced some good news: Several important tuna (金枪鱼) species have stepped back from the edge of extinction. The unexpectedly fast recovery speaks to the success of efforts over the past decade to end overfishing. But tuna are not the only species scientists are discussing at the 2021 World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France, which is organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Researchers caution that many other marine species remainimperiled. For instance, more than a third of the world's sharks remain threatened with extinction due to overfishing, habitat loss, and climate change.“I think the good news is that sustainable fisheries are possible,” says Beth Polidoro, a marine biologist at Arizona State University. “We can eat fish in a proper way and without driving the population to the point where it is on the road to collapse or extinction."At the same time, she warned that the changes in status should not be anreason to catch as many fish as we want. The IUCN, which ranks the world's most endangered species on its Red List of Threatened Species and is backed by 16,000 experts across the globe, also announced at the meeting that some animals are moving in the other direction, onto the Red List. One notable example is the Komodo dragon, an island-living lizard at particular risk from climate change. For the better part of two decades, Polidoro has been part of a specialist group tasked with assessing the statuses of more than 60 species of tuna and billfishes for the IUCN.Her team announced its first comprehensive findings in 2011, mentioning that a number of commercially fished tuna species were dangerously close to disappearing.According to the new data, the Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), once listed as endangered, now qualifies for a status of least concern. As does the yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga), which were both considered near-threatened the last time they were assessed.12. What does the underlined word “imperiled” in paragraph 2 mean?A. EndangeredB. ConservedC. ExtinctD. Safe13. What can we infer from Polidoro's words?A. Too many fish are being eaten by human beings.B. Eating fish does not necessarily lead to its extinction.C. Fish species are on the edge of dying out if no action is taken.D. The situation of underwater species are changing for the better.14. Which of following statement is true according to the passage?A. Some Tuna species are wiped out by overfishing.B. Tuna are ranked as the world's most endangered species.C. Climate change poses a threat to most species in water and on land.D. Three tuna species have been saved from extinction according to the data.15. What's the main idea of the passage?A. Some tuna species are reported endangered recently.B. IUCN has helped saved a great many marine species.C. Improvement has been made in saving marine species.D. Great efforts should be made to conserve species underwater.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

2020届黑龙江省大庆实验中学高三英语三模试题及答案第一部分阅读(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项AThere have been many great painters in the rich history of Chinese art. Here are four of the greatest painters from China.Li Cheng (919—967, Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty)Li Cheng contributed greatly to one of the golden ages of landscape paintings in world history. During his time, he was considered the best landscape painter ever. He is remembered especially for the winter landscapes he created and for simple compositions of tall, old evergreens set against a dry landscape. Several of his paintings are in thin ink which gives them a foggy appearance.Fan Kuan (990—1020 , Song Dynasty)Fan Kuan began his career by modeling Li Cheng's work but later created his own style, claiming that the only true teacher was nature. His finest workTravelers among Mountains and Streamsis a masterpiece of landscape painting and many future artists turned to it for inspiration.Qi Baishi (1864-1957)One of the greatest contemporary Chinese painters, Qi Baishi is known for not being influenced by Western styles like most painters of his time. He can be considered as the last great traditional painter of China. He painted almost everything from insects to landscapes. He is regarded highly in Chinese art for the freshness that he brought to the familiar types of birds and flowers, insects and grass.Wu Guanzhong (1919—2010)Widely considered as the founder of modern Chinese painting , Wu Guanzhong has painted various aspects of China, like its architecture, plants, animals, people and landscapes. Wu went on to combine Western and Chinese styles to create a unique form of modem art. In 1992, he became the first living Chinese artist whose work was exhibited at the British Museum.1.What do we know about Li Cheng?A.He loved landscape paintings.B.He copied many artists' work.C.His work gained worldwide recognition.D.He was considered as Fan Kuan's teacher.2.What is the main feature of Qi Baishi's paintings?A.They have foggy appearances.B.They lack diversity in the theme.C.They come under Western influence.D.They show advanced traditional painting skills.3.What did the four Chinese painters have in common?A.They were all modern painters.B.They all created landscape paintings.C.They were all impacted by Western art.D.They were all pioneers intraditional art history.BIf you believe in thermometers (温度计), you should believe in global warming. And if you believe in eating French fries with your hamburger, you should worry more about carbonemission. It won't happen overnight, but as the planet’s climate changes, the growth cycles of main crops will all be heavily affected. Here are three of the crops that might not beat the heat. The potato actually needs a great deal of beauty rest to develop properly. “They need a cool nighttime temperature in order to start growing the tuber, the part that we eat,” Nelson says.Temperature and altitude are two primary concerns in coffee growth, and farmers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. “We know that coffee grows in a certain temperature range,” Nelson says. “They've been moving up the mountains, but at some point you run out of mountains to move up.” Higher-grade strains of Arabica coffee in Central American regions are at particular risk due to the need for lower growing temperature, especially since diseases and pests are also becoming more of a factor as temperatures rise.Even if you're looking at the direct effects of temperature alone, rice is in trouble. “As nighttime temperatures go up, the rice is going to have a problem flowering and won't make as many seeds,” Nelson says. In addition to this direct heat consequence, rising sea levels will flood many rice paddies and destroy water salinity levels, while droughts will lower production, raise prices, and further shame westerners who are clumsy with chopsticks to be able to clear their plates once a new grain is adopted.4. What is the closest meaning to the underlined word “emission” in Paragraph 1?A. Mixture.B. Pollution.C. Giving off.D. Going down.5. What does the potatoes' development need according to Nelson?A. Cool temperature at night.B. Sudden rise of the temperature.C. Enough water and salt.D. Much sunshine and fresh air.6. Three Crops That Won't Survive Climate ChangesCThe COVID-19 vaccination(接种疫苗)rate in the US has fallen to newlows in recent weeks, threatening President Joe Biden’s goal of having 70 percent of American adults with at least one shot by July 4.With just less than one month from July 4, the current vaccination rate will put the US at somewhere between 67 percent and 68 percent of the adult population with at least one dose(剂量)by Independence Day. To reach 70 percent by July 4, around 1.6 percent of the population needs to get their first dose per week from now until July 4.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)reported last week that 63 percent of adults hadreceived their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. That was up slightly from 62 percent from the report a week before. The additional 1 percent of adults completing their first dose is the lowest since the CDC started tracking the vaccination rate in mid-February.On average, fewer than 1 million shots are given out per day, a decline of more than two-thirds from the peak of 3.4 million in April, The Washington Post reported. In South Carolina, about 71,000 residents got a shot in the week leading up to June 3, compared to a high of nearly 300,000 in one week in early April, according to data from the CDC.The slowdown is moreprominentacross the South and Midwest. Twelve states have seen vaccinations fall to 15 daily shots per 10,000 residents. Less than a quarter of black Americans had received their first COVID-19 shot as of June 7.James Hildreth, CEO of Meharry Medical College, told Politico, “We need to make a stronger effort to bring the vaccine to the communities, rather than relying on the communities to come to vaccination centers.”The sharp decline in vaccination began in mid-April when federal officials temporarily stopped the use of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine while they investigated rare blood-clotting(凝血)reactions.The “low-hanging fruit—thosepeople who ly want to get vaccinated without you telling them anything” have already been vaccinated, which has led to the slowdown, Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on a White House-organized call with community leaders last week, according to the Post.8. What can we learn from the text?A. Dr Anthony Fauci is in charge of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.B. In South Carolina, about 300,000 residents got a shot in the week leading up to June 3C. In mid-April federal officials temporarily suspended the Johnson&Johnson vaccine.D. Less than one fourth of Americans had received their first COVID-19 shot by June 7.9. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “prominent” in Para. 5?A. Meaningful.B. Obvious.C. Inspiring.D. Complex.10. How can America increase the COVID-19 vaccination rate according to James Hildreth?A. By giving the vaccine shot at the communities.B. By offering the vaccine to the public for free.C. By frequently informing the public of the vaccine.D. By urging the communities to come to vaccination centers.11. What can be the best title for the text?A. Biden wishes to have 70% of adults with one shot by July 4B. CDC has been trackingthe vaccination rate since mid-FebruaryC. Some Americans need to get vaccinated without telling them toD. Biden’s July 4th vaccine goal may be missedDA lot of us lose life’s tough battles by starting a frontal attack—when a touch of humor might well enable us to win.Consider the case of a young friend of mine, who hita traffic jam on his way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum about beinglate on the job.Although there was a good reason for Sam’s a being late—serious illness at home—he decided that this by-now-familiar excuse wouldn’t work any longer. His supervisor was probablyalready pacing up and down preparing a dismissal speech.Yes,the boss was.Sam entered the office at 9:35.The place was as quiet as a locker room;everyone was hard at work.Sam’s supervisor came up to him.Suddenly,Sam forced a grin and stretched out his hand.“How do you do!” he said.“I’m Sam Maynard.I’m applying for a job, which,I understand, became available just 35 minutes ago.Does the early bird get the worm?”The room exploded in laughter. The supervisor“clamped off”a smile and walked back to his office.Sam Maynard had saved his job—with the only tool that could win,a laugh.Humor is a most effective, yet frequently neglected, means of handling the difficult situations in our lives. It can be used for patching up differences, apologizing, saying “no”,criticizing, getting the other fellow to do what you want without his losingface. For some jobs,it’s the only tool that can succeed. It is a way to discuss subjects so sensitive that serious dialog may start a quarrel. For example, many believe that comedians on television are doing more today for racial and religious tolerancethan people in any other forum.12. Why was Sam late for his job?A. Because he was ill.B. Because he got up late.C. Because he was caught in a traffic jam.D. He was busy applying for a new job.13. Friends and family have reacted to this news by taking in such pessimistic terms that Mom has come to label this kind of talk as “psychological theft”. It occurs when other people increase your anxiety rather than provide comfort.Last week Mom went to the post office and ran into Geoff who works for the local school. “How are you?” he asked. “Not great,” she replied. “I’ve been having some trouble with my back and I’m going to need an operation.” “Oh, the back is the most dangerous place to operate on!” he responded. “My mom had that and she was in terrible pain. Make sure you get all your affairs in order before you go under the knife—it takes months to get over it!” Geoff’s intention had been benign(美好的). He’d given his own mother’s story to show sympathy. However, Mom only heard pain, danger, knife, and months. In the past few weeks, Mom’s mates and colleagues have told her stories about how their Auntie Trisha, who had just received an operation, was left speechless after hearing that she required a rapid follow-up operation; and how their neighbor, who had only a minor operation, never walked again. It’s really not that difficult to think of alternative things they could have said that would be equally true, but more beneficial to patients to h ear. “The specialists in our hospitals are among the best in the world. It’s amazing what they can do these days!”—that’s a good one. “You’re going to feel much better afterward.”—that’s another.I’m not suggesting patients should be sheltered from the reality of the risks they’re taking. But if the decision to have an operation can’t really be avoided, what’s the purpose of underlining the drawbacks? It’s just common sense to say: “Get well soon, and how can I help?24. What does “psychological theft” in Paragraph 1 refer to?A. The negative comments.B. Psychological disorder.C. The comforting words.D. Physical disability.25. How might the author’s mom have felt after hearing what Geoff said?A. SympatheticB. RelievedC. MovedD. Worried26. How did the author explain his idea in the text?A. By using examplesB. By analyzing causesC. By following time order.D. By discussing research findings27. What lesson does the author want to teach us?A. Treat patients with adoration.B. Find an appropriate way to comfort patients.答案:ADADCThe fashion industry urgently needs to transition to a “slow” fashion model to reduce its heavy environmental damage, according to researchers at Aalto University, Finland. The environmental impact of fashion’s global supply chain continues to rise, they say in a paper published in the journal Nature. The industry currently produces over 92 million tons of waste and consumes 79 trillion liters of water per year. It causes around 10 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions (排放) and is also a high source chemical pollution. Developing countries tend to suffer most from the industry, since production often occurs there. The fashion industry is also projected to grow significantly in the coming decades. Fashion brands are already producing almost twice the amount of clothing they did 20 years ago, while global consumption of textiles (纺织品) is projected to increase by over 60 percent to 102 million tons by 2030, the paper said.“It’s critical that we, as consumers, accept that these cheap clothes are not possible if the environmental impacts are really all taken care of,” said Dr. Kirsi Niinimaiki. “In the future we should produce less. If we buy less, there will be less waste.”People in the UK buy more clothes per person than any other country in Europe. Last year, a cross-party parliamentary committee in the UK called on the government to add a 1 penny “producer responsibility charge” on each item of clothing to pay for better collection and recycling of unwanted clothes.Dr. Mark Sumner, a lecturer in sustainability in retail and fashion at the University of Leeds, said that the paper gave a good overview of the material aspects of the industry, but missed the opportunity to highlight efforts by more responsible brands to address these environmental problems.“There are definitely success stories out there in terms of what industry has done,” said Sumner, adding that not enough brands are using that best practice. He also said it’s important not to see “slow” fashion as the only answer.28.What is one of the major concerns about the fast fashion industry?A.Emission of greenhouse gases. B.Waste of clothing materials.C.A sharp increase in diseases. D.A fierce competition in fashion.29.What is the purpose of paragraph 5?A.To support the idea of less clothing production.B.To illustrate how fast fashion industry develops.C.To prove that British people buy more clothes.D.To show a measure to reduce clothes purchase. 30.What do Dr. Mark Sumner’s words imply?A.“Slow” fashion is a must. B.Consumers should buy less.C.A new approach is needed. D.Industry has done well enough.31.What does the text mainly talk about?A.Future of the fashion industry. B.Needs to deal with fast fashion.C.Reduction of clothing production. D.Changes to sustainability in fashion.答案:ADCBDLikely to suffer from loss of memory from time to time? Smart cameras can now remind you.Khai Truong at the University of Toronto in Canada and his colleagues have created a smartphone app that records interactions with household objects. The system involves barcode-like(像条形码的) markers that the user sticks to objects whose use they would like to track. With the smartphone worn around your neck, the app automatically records a short video clip(片段) when a marked object comes into view. “The user is able to look through the application and see the last time they interacted with it,” says Truong. The app can help people track the state of objects—such as whether they locked a door or switched a light off—as well as routine actions. At present, it successfully records about 75 percent of interactions, but only works for fixed objects.A similar but separate system can solve the problem. E. Akin Sisbot and Jonathan Connell at IBM Research in New York have invented a ceiling-mounted(安装在天花板上的) camera that monitors objects and people. It continuously watches an area, such as a tabletop in your home, tracking the placement of objects in relation to one another. It also remembers who first brought an object into the field of view as well as if anyone moved it afterwards. When asked, “Where is my wallet?” the system might respond, “It is next to the vase, un der the magazines.”The camera could also be used in factories or operating theaters to track vital tools, says Sisbot. For now, the camera uses a depth sensor to spot things. It is limited to detecting objects thicker than 3 centimeters, meaning that it has trouble with thin objects such as a closed laptop placed flat on a table. The accuracy of such smart camera systems may need to improve before they are widely adopted. “You’ve got to trust the technology for it to be of any comfort or reassurance” says Geoffrey Ward at the University of Essex in the UK.32.How does the smartphone app mentioned in paragraph 2 work?A. By switching off electricity automatically.B. By scanning barcodes of household objects.C. By recording the movement of marked objects.D. By informing owners of potential dangers.33. What is the limitation of the ceiling-mounted camera?A. It is unlikely to make a sound.B. It is unable to recognize movable objects.C. It fails to find objects thinner than 3 centimetres.D. It hardly senses objects without barcode-like makers.34. What’s Geoffrey Ward’s attitude towards the smart camera systems?A. ConcernedB. SupportiveC. SkepticalD. Ambiguous35. What’s the best title for the text?A. New Smartphones Make Life EasierB. Camera Designers Face New ChallengesC. Smart Cameras Help Increase Home SecurityD. 2019-2020学年黑龙江省大庆实验中学高三英语第一次联考试题及参考答案
2019-2020学年黑龙江省大庆实验中学高三英语第一次联考试题及参考答案第一部分阅读(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项AChildren under the age of 18 will be allowed up to three hours per week to play video games, according to a notice issued by China's National Press and Publication Administration. Online game companies are required to provide services to minors — from8 to 9 p. m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays — as a way to safeguard their physical and mental health. Children are playing more and more online games these days. Is it time to limit their online gaming time? What role do parents have? Readers share their opinions.RizlaredOnline games are addictive, but if children are taught how to manage in a sensible and responsible manner then it is no longer a threat(威胁).To achieve this, parents need to set examples for not being glued to their phones. Teaching is and always will be the best solution to such problems.AndrewGood policy. By limiting time spent on online games, kids can spend time doing more useful things to develop their potential. They can go outside and run, jump and swim instead of sitting on a couch at home and playing with a smart phone.AdamIt is often seen that parents argue with children over cellphones. Most parents can hardly set and enforce the time limit for its daily usage. Some forcibly take away their cellphones, but it will ruin trust and relationship. Even worse, it will make their kids hate them.PinkExcessive(过度的)gaming is purely a waste of time and energy for minors and has a negative effect on both physical and mental health. The gaming industry should not put profit- flaking interests as its priority (优先事项) . They should act in a socially responsible way toprovide an environment for children to ensure their well-being and development.LaurenThere would be a loophole(漏洞). Children could use their parents’ or other adults’ IDs to avoid real-nameregistration, thus making it impossible to put this policy in effect. Parents ly need to strengthen guidance and supervision to keep their children from gaming addiction.1. What should kids do according to Andrew?A. Play online games.B. Play with a smart phone.C. Study all the time.D. Go in for outside activities.2. What does Pink advise the gaming industry to do?A. Pay attention to its profit.B. Focus on kids’ health.C. Be responsible for kids’ surroundings.D. Persuade kids lo play more games.3. What role do parents have according to the passage?A. They keep hold of their phones.B. They set examples for their kids.C. They limit their kids’ time.D. They blame kids for addiction.BCuckoos don’t bother building their own nests—they just lay eggs that perfectly imitate those of other birds and take over their nests. But other birds are wishing up, evolving some seriously impressive tricks to spot the cuckoo eggs.Cuckoos are often know asparasites, meaning that they hide their eggs in the nest of other species. To avoid detection, the cuckoos have evolved so that eggs seem reproduction of those of their preferred targets. If the host bird doesn’t notice the strange egg in its nest, the little cuckoo will actually take the entire nest for itself after it comes out, taking the other eggs on its back and dropping them out of the nest.To avoid this unpleasant fate for their young, the other birds have evolved a few smart ways to spot the fakes, which we’re only now beginning to fully understand. One of the most amazing finds is that birds have an extra colour-sensitive cell in their eyes, which makes them far more sensitive to ultraviolet wavelengths and allows them to see a far greater range of colours than humans can. This allows cautious birds to detect a fake egg which might be exactly the same to our eyes.Fascinatingly, we’re actually able to observe different bird species at very different points in their evolutionary war with the cuckoos. For instance, some cuckoos lay their eggs in the nests of the redstarts. The blue eggs these cuckoos lay are practically alike to those of the redstarts, and yet they are still sometimes rejected. Compare that with cuckoos who target dunnocks. While those birds lay perfectly blue eggs, their cuckoo invaders just lay white eggs with brown irregular shaped spots. And yet dunnocks barely ever seem to notice the obvious trick.Biologists suspect these more easily fooled species like the dunnocks are on the same evolutionary path as the redstarts, but they have a long way to go until they evolve the same levels of suspicion. What’s remarkable is that the dunnocks fakes are so bad and the redstart ones so good, and yet cuckoos are still more successful with the former than the latter. It speaks to just how thoroughly a species’ behavior can be changed by the pressures of natural selection, or it might just be a bit of strategic cooperation on the part of the dunnocks. Biologists have suggested that these birds are willing to tolerate a parasite every so often because they don’t want to risk accidentally getting rid of one of their own eggs.4. This passage can be most likely found in a ________.A. science surveyB. nature magazineC. zoo advertisementD. travel journal5. What does the underlined word “parasite” in paragraph 2 most probably refer to?A. Animals that work together to raise young.B. Small harmful animals such as worms or mice.C. Animals that can adapt to changing environments.D. Animals which live on or inside other host animals.6. Which of the following is TRUE about the dunnock according to the passage?A. It is colour-blind and therefore cannot identify foreign eggs in the nest.B. It can easily remove cuckoo eggs from the nest because fakes are so bad.C. It is a host bird that is more likely to raise a cuckoo chick than the redstart.D. It is unable to evolve and hence accepts cuckoo eggs that appear in the nest.7. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?A. Dunnocks may eventually learn to recognise foreign eggs.B. Redstarts seem to be less suspicious compared to dunnocks.C. Cuckoo birds are good at taking responsibility for their own young.D. It is very easy for cuckoos to imitate the colouring of the dunnock’s egg.CWhy isn’t science better? Look at career incentive(激励).There are oftensubstantial gaps between the idealized and actual versions of those people whose work involves providing a social good. Government officials are supposed to work for their constituents. Journalists are supposed to provide unbiased reporting andpenetrating analysis. And scientists are supposed to relentlessly probe the fabric of reality with the most rigorous and skeptical of methods. All too often, however, what should be just isn’t so. In a number of scientific fields, published findings turn out not toreplicate(复制), or to have smaller effects than, what was initially claimed. Plenty of science does replicate — meaning the experiments turn out the same way when you repeat them -but the amount that doesn’t is too much for comfort. But there are also waysin which scientists increase their chances of getting it wrong. Running studies with small samples, mining data for correlations and forming hypotheses to fit an experiment’s results after the fact are just some of the ways to increase the number of false discoveries. It’s not like we don't know how to do better. Scientists who study scientific methods have known about feasible remedies for decades. Unfortunately, their advice often falls ondeaf ears. Why? Why aren't scientific methods better than they are? In a word: incentives. But perhaps not in the way you think. In the 1970s, psychologists and economists began to point out the danger in relying on quantitative measures for social decision-making. For example, when public schools are evaluated by students’ performance on standardized tests, teachers respond by teaching “to the test”. In turn, the test serves largely as of how well the school can prepare students for the test.We can see this principle—often summarized as “when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure”—playing out in the realm of research. Science is a competitive enterprise. There are far more credentialed (授以证书的) scholars and researchers than there are university professorships or comparably prestigious research positions. Once someone acquires a research position, there is additional competition for tenure grant funding, and support and placement for graduate students. Due to this competition for resources, scientists must be evaluated and compared. How do you tell if someone is a good scientist? An oft-used metric is the number of publications one has in peer-reviewed journals, as well as the status of those journals. Metrics like these make it straightforward to compare researchers whose work may otherwise be quite different. Unfortunately, this also makes these numbers susceptible to exploitation. If scientists are motivated to publish often and in high-impact journals, we might expect them to actively try to game the system. And certainly, some do—as seen in recent high-profile cases of scientific fraud(欺诈). If malicious fraud is the prime concern, then perhaps the solution is simply heightened alertness. However, most scientists are, I believe, genuinely interested in learning about the world, and honest. The problem with incentives is that they can shape cultural norms without any intention on the part of individuals.8. Which of the following is TRUE about the general trend in scientific field?A. Scientists are persistently devoted to exploration of reality.B. The research findings fail to achieve the expected effect.C. Hypotheses are modified to highlight the experiments' results.D. The amount of science that does replicate is comforting.9. What doesdeaf earsin the fourth paragraph probably refer to?A. The public.B. The incentive initiators.C. The peer researchers.D. The high-impact journal editors.10. Which of the following does the author probably agree with?A. Good scientists excel in seeking resources and securing research positions.B. Competition for resources inspires researchers to work in a more skeptical way.C. All the credentialed scholars and researchers will not take up university professorships.D. The number of publication reveals how scientists are bitterly exploited.11. According to the author, what might be a remedy for the fundamental problem in scientific research?A. High-impact journals are encouraged to reform the incentives for publication.B. The peer-review process is supposed to scale up inspection of scientific fraud.C. Researchers are motivated to get actively involved in gaming the current system.D. Career incentives for scientists are expected to consider their personal intention.DI had just delivered a memorable speech, and I was about to learn how the judges decided my performance. The audience leaned forward and a period of silence fell across the room. I felt the drum rolled in my heart. The third-place winner was announced. The name was not mine. Then the second-place winner, still not me. At last, the moment of truth came. I was about to either enjoy the warmth of victory or regret the months’ preparation. My heart felt closer to the latter.Losing is a part of life, and I have dealt with it on more than one occasion. However, it was an indescribable feeling to drive a 200-mile round trip, get up very early on a freezing Saturday morning, and yet still finish fourth out of four competitors in my group. After Lincoln lost the 1858 Illinois Senate race, he said, “I felt like the 12-year-old boy who kicked his toe. I was too big to cry and it hurt too bad to laugh.” Oh yeah, I could relate.I had spent many hours in front of a computer and in libraries doing research for the Lincoln Bicentennial Speech Contest. After not placing in the first year of the contest, I really wanted to compete again. Lincoln hadmany failures, but he never allowed them to defeat his spirit or ambition, so I was not going to give up on a second contest! I reworked my speech for the following year, but again I did not place.I couldn’t accept the fact that I failed twice in something that I had worked so hard on, until I thought about my hero. Never mind the lost prize money and praise—through learning stories about Lincoln, I discovered that I can fail successfully.12. How did the author feel after finishing his speech?A. Delighted.B. Annoyed.C. Thrilled.D. Nervous.13. What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?A. He was regretful about his not being fully prepared.B. He felt upset for getting up early on a chilly morning.C. He once kicked and hurt his toe when he was 12 years old.D. He turned out to be the last one of his group in the contest.14. Why did the author decide to enter the second contest?A. He was eager to prove himself to be the best contestant.B. He was inspired by the never-give-up spirit of Lincoln.C. He was willing to enjoy the warmth and joy of victory.D. He was determined to win the prize money and praise.15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. A memorable hero in my lifeB. Never mind others’ judgmentsC.
