In fact effective negotiation is characterized by the parties working together to find a solution, rather than each party trying to win the contest of wills. 3. How do you use abbreviations?
• In business writing, people use abbreviations very often. Many people also make use of abbreviations when taking notes, and such abbreviations are also used in the footnotes and endnotes of academic writing. When using abbreviations, you need to abbreviate those words that are important and for which not only you can quickly form an abbreviation but also they have been already widely accepted. Knowing the context in which you wrote the word will help you recognize the complete word from its abbreviation. Notice that a full stop is placed after an abbreviation, but not when the full word is used. Sometimes the full stop may be omitted in order to avoid double punctuation. Never begin a sentence with an abbreviation.

Sometimes marketing researchers know exactly what their marketing problems are and design careful studies to test specific hypotheses. For example, a soft drink company introducing a new clear cola might want to know whether a gold or silver label would make the packaging more effective. This problem is fully defined and an experiment may be designed to answer the marketing question with little preliminary investigation.
