1 Body language 李仕才
Unit 4 Body language 【高考试一试】 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Christmas was coming. I wanted a pony, a kind of small horse. To make sure that my parents understood, I declared that I wanted nothing else. "Nothing but a pony?" my father asked. "Nothing," I said. "Not even a pair of boots?" That was hard. I did want boots, but I stuck to the pony. "No, not even boots. All I want is a pony," I said. "If I can’t have a pony, give me nothing." On Christmas Eve I hung up my sock along with my sisters’. The next morning my sisters and I woke up at six. Then we raced downstairs to the fireplace. And there they were, the gifts, all sorts of wonderful things. Only my sock was empty; not a thing in it; and under and around it — nothing. My sisters had knelt down, each by her pile of gifts; they were crying with delight till they saw me standing there looking so miserable. They came over to me and felt my sock: nothing. I don’t remember whether I cried at that moment, but my sisters did. They ran with me back to my bed, and there we all cried. Then I went out alone into the stable(马厩) and there, all by myself, I wept. My mother and sisters came out to me and tried to comfort me. But I wanted no comfort and I ran away from them. I went around to the front of the house, sat down on the steps. The crying over, I was wronged, I was hurt. And my father must have been hurt, too. I saw him looking out of the window. He was watching me or something for an hour or two, drawing back the curtain so little in case I caught him. But I saw his face, and I could see the anxiety upon it, the worried impatience.

可能会用到的画线词有pony, a pair of boots, wonderful等。

WhenI was a young musician, hewas my biggest fan. I played my violin for him when he visited, and heloved everything, but each time he had one request.“Could you play Amazing Grace?” he asked, full of hope and with a twinkle in his eye, because heknew my answer was always,“I don’ t know that one!” Wewent through th is routine at every major holiday, and I always figured I ’d have time to learnit for him later.About the time I entered high school and started guitar, Grandpa gotcancer. The last time I saw him alive was Thanksgiving weekend in 1985. Mymom warned us that Grandpa didn ’t look the same anymore and that we should prepare ourselves. For a moment I didn ’ t recognize him. He looked so small among all the white sheets. Wehad all gathered in Ohio for the holiday, and I ’m sure we all knew we were there to say good-bye. I can see now that Grandpa held on long enough to see us each one more time. I remember how we ate inthe dining room and laughed and talked while Grandpa rested in his hospitalbed. I wonder if it was sad for him to be alone with our voices and laughter.Knowing Grandpa, he was probably content. The next morning I found my momentalone with him. I pulled out my guitar, tuned to his appreciative gaze, and finally played for him Amazing Grace.I had worked on it for weeks, knowing it never mattered whether I actuallyplayed it well and choosing not to believe as I played that it was my lastconcert for my biggest fan. The cancer had stolen his smile, but I saw joyin his eyes. He held my hand afterward, and I knew I had done something important.I argued with people all through college about my music major.I was told by strangers that music wouldn’t make me any money and it wasn’t useful like being a doctor. But I know first-hand that with music I was able to give my grandpa something at a point when no one else could.语篇解读:本文是一篇记述文。

Unit 4 Body languageⅠ.阅读理解A(2017·重庆适应性测试)Just a couple of hours ago, I was on the plane, ready to fly home from London. The flight had been delayed by a few hours so it felt good to be so close to takeoff.I had my iPod in place and a new book to read. Then, over the loudspeaker came the pilot's voice:“The ground crew has found a metal instrument in one tire. We regret that we must cancel this flight.”The passengers' reactions that announcement led to were interesting. One man close to me began to argue with a flight attendant. A couple in another row complained loudly. A businessman in a black suit actually kicked the seat in front of him. Yet some passengers responded differently. An elderly gentleman smiled as he helped others take their bags down from the overhead compartments. A teenager, rather than trying to rush off the plane like most of the other passengers, stopped to help a woman with a disability. The lady sitting next to me laughed and said:“Hey, it's not the end of the world,” before she made a call to her kids and shared her adventure with them. The wisest among us have a remarkable ability to maintain grounded when times get tough. No life is perfect; mine certainly isn't. We all must face challenges, both large and small. You and I have the power to choose to rise above the external circumstances. We always have the choice to be strong and kind when things fall apart. That's grace under pressure. My seatmate was right — things could have been so much worse. Anyway, I am safe. I have my health. I have two wonderful children.I have work I love and so much to be grateful for. Sure I now have to wait a few hours to catch the next flight home.【解题导语】本文是记叙文,讲述了因为航班取消不同乘客的不同反应。
