Use specific reasons and examples to support our answer. Dangerous sports or activities attract a certain type of person. This person is often a risk taker, an optimist, and a fatalist. People who take risks are found both in dangerous sports and business. But it is a special person who takes a risk with his own life as opposed to his money. My father was a risk taker. He put everything be owned into his business, but he stopped playing risky sports like horseback riding and skiing. Once his business was a success and he no longer bad to worry about providing for us, he returned on the age of 60, to the risky sports that he did as a youth. Someone who plays a dangerous sport must be an optimist. They cannot imagine that anything will happen to them. They never think about breaking their leg while skiing, falling off a cliff while rock climbing, falling on their head while sky diving. They live for the thrill of the moment without a thought to the many things that could go wrong. Rock climbers and sports car drivers must be fatalist. They might plan for potential problems, but once they have done everything they can do, the outcome is out of their bands. A motorcyclist when jumps across a narrow canyon will get the fastest, strongest bike available that will carry him or her across the canyon, however, wind conditions or other problems might interfere and the cyclist my fall short of his goal. Many people have the same traits of course. Many of us are risk takers, optimists and fatalists. But I think people who play dangerous sports must have these characteristics in abundance. Which is more important for success: the natural ability you are born with or hard work? Explain your opinion, using specific reasons and examples. Without a doubt, hard work is a much better predictor of success than natural ability. In my experience, I have seen this at work in sports, school, and work. Many athletes have a natural ability to run the fastest mile or kick the ball the most accurately. Unless they work hardthough, they will not be stars. They need to train daily, eat properly, live correctly. It takes hard work to be Number One. At school, I have seen many very bright students do poorly on exams. They count on their intelligence to get them through. However, unless they do their homework every day, participate in class discussions, and study for exams, they will be the bottoms of the class. Many salespeople can talk with anyone and convince him or her to buy something. They have a natural ability to sell. They must however apply some hard work to this skill. They must learn a lot about their customers, about the product they are selling, and about the market, they must put some effort into the paper work that goes along with the sale. If they don’t follow through, the sale will not be made. Whatever the area, whether on the playing field, at school, or on the sales floor, a person must not rely on his natural ability along if he or she wants to succeed. They must work hard to be a success.⼤⼈是否该替孩⼦做决定? Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older (15 to 18 year-old) teenaged children. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. No one knows me as well as my parents. No one wants the best for me like my parents. It is natural that I should allow my parents to make important decisions for me. I think all older teenagers (15 to 18 year-olds) should take their parents advice on decisions that concern their education, their social life, and their future careers. My parents have always chosen the best schools for me to attend. They have encouraged me to attend special prep classes to make sure that I was well prepared for the exams. They have given me tutors to make sure that I understood my subjects well. When it comes to choosing a college, I will trust my parents to make that decision. They know what they can afford and what will give me a good education. When I was young, my parents would invite children over to play with me. Over the years, I have become very close to these children. They are like my family. We celebrate holidays and birthdays together. We even go to the mountains together in the summer. My parents do not want me to fall into the wrong crowd. They do not want me to meet and fall in love with someone they do not know. I understand that and I want to make them happy. My father runs a very successful business and my mother is a well-known politician. They are very well connected and they have many friends who would like me to work for them when I finish school. This is a very good arrangement for me. If all children follow their parents’ wishes, they would probably be happier. Parents only want the best for their children.。

Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should:1) describe the drawing briefly,2) explain its intended meaning, and then3) state your point of view.范文:As is illustrated in the picture, a couple sleeps on the same bed but they seem to be rather isolated from each other. Their oral communication has been replaced by online chatting. This picture reveals the in-depth problem of modern people’s alienation from each other, even among family members. The issue is attributed to two factors. In the first place, modern people are fully occupied by their work and business, which causes so much tension that there is little time left for communication with each other. Everybody is busy all the time because of the pressure of survival in the society, which deprives them of a casual way of life. In the second place, the prevailing use of the Internet makes it easier for people to contact each other. However, the convenience of sending instant messages to anybody around the world prevents people from the pleasure of the face-to-face communication. In a sense, the addiction to internet exchange makes humans mechanical.People should be aware that the modern modes of communication cannot take the place of traditional ones. If the couple in the drawing continues to behave like this, their closerelationship might be ruined, perhaps even becoming the “closest stranger” some day. Direct communications, in contrast, helps construct more human connections among people.

1directions: in this part, you are to write an essay of about 200 words within 40 minutes. your essay must meet the requirements below.show your understanding of the meaning of the picture below state the harmful effects of fake and inferior products suggest ways to fight against fake and inferior productsas the picture given depicts, the socialist market-oriented economy in our country is developing rapidly, just like a truck running at a high speed. but the general public is surprised to find that there are more and more fake and inferior products seriously hampering the expansion of our marker economy. consumers have to be very careful in purchasing goods and services they need; otherwise they will fall into the traps set by the illegal manufacturers who make fake and inferior products.there is no doubt that fake and inferior products are extremely harmful. in the first place, theyendanger people’s health, giving rise to a lot of injury accidents. for instance, inferior-quality medicines not only aggravate a patient’s condition, but also tend to threaten his life and, what’s worse, to result in his death. secondly, fake and inferior products are usually sold on the cheap. in many cases they interfere with the normal economic order in our country, affecting the market of many high-quality goods. this in a great degree, hinders the development of our socialist market economy and harms the interests of our state. therefore, we can say that fake and inferior products are a dangerous “tumor” in our healthy economy, which must be cut away as soon possible.in my opinion, several strong measures should be adopted to fight against fake and inferior products. on the one hand, those who make them must be severely punished by the law. on the other hand, due to the growing complexity of the market, consumers are often faced with deceptive practices. although there are laws designed to protect consumers, there is not a sufficient number of law enforcers to cover all the abuses of the marketplace. hence, consumers shouldlearn to discern between true and false. only in this way can they defend their own legal rights and interests. 2This bar chart indicates different market shares of automobiles of three types of brand affiliations between 2023 and 2023.In 2023,cars with Japanese brands topped the three types of vehicles, accounting for 35% of the total market. What follows is the cars with Chinese brands, hitting 25% of the auto market, with the share of American brand bottomed out at 15%. In 2023,some developments are noticeable in that the cars with the largest share became those of Chinese brands, which occupied roughly 32% of the market, while cars with Japanese and American brands took 25% and 15% of the whole market respectively. It is observed that between 2023 and 2023,cars of Chinese and Japanese brands took turns to be the No.1 in terms of market share while those with American brands ranked the last in both years. And the share of Chinese-brand cars witnessed a mild increase and that of the Japanese-brand cars saw a moderate decrease, while the American-brand cars stayed the same. From this graph,we can come to the safe conclusion that the Chinese automakers are doing a good job in outcompeting their Japanese and American counterparts in 2023,but the gap is not so significant and if no efforts were made from the part of the Chinese auto industry, the distribution map might be rewritten in the future. 3For over a decade, the craze of Chinese college graduates taking qualifying examinations to become civil servants has remained unabated. An important proportion of graduates view civil service as their top priority in job selection and they spare no efforts in preparing for those examinations, sometimes years before their graduation. To some extent, this craze is a modern revival of the ancient notion that “those who excel in academics end up in officialdom.” In the present-day China, however, there are complicated reasons underlying this phenomenon. The jobs in sectors other than civil service are insecure and unstable, and employees haveto work under greater stress faced with growing competitions in the workplace and the industry. Some government departments are related to monopolized industries and civil servants can enjoy unusually high salaries and welfare benefits. Finally, government officials are usually regarded as occupying the highest rung of the social hierarchy and a student who succeeds in becoming government official is considered the pride of the family, adding prestige and glory to the entire clan. For all the apparent attractions of the officialdom, the craze of entering the civil service is a distorted one. In the United States, truly ambitious students enter the industry instead of civil departments, where they apply their individual initiative to achieve personal success. It has already been pointed out that, with so many best minds of the nation fighting their way into the civil sectors, the consequences are catastrophic. The civil servants system, with its inherent bureaucracy and rigid rules, would inevitably turn the otherwise energetic and aggressive young people into docile followers of their superiors’instructions and dutiful but mediocre implementers of executive orders. This will considerably undermine the vitality of a whole generation and the competitiveness of the entire country in the international arena. All forms of craze are accompanied by elements of irrationality and abnormality and, the sooner this craze vanishes, the better. 4From the picture above,we can see a spical hotpot, which contains many unique ingredients, stand for LAO SHE,KONG FU,Decompostion and some things to that effect. At the bottom of the picture,a sentence stands there extremely prominent, which can be brielf interpreted by this way:culture hotpot is not only good tasting but also strongly good for one`s health. A bit exggerating picture is,however, through careful observation,we may discover that behind this strange senario, what the cartoonist intends to show us is extremely obvious:the significance of integration between Chinese culture and other countries` culture。

The above bar chart shows the results of a report concerning the ideal career standards of most university students. Based on the data offered, steadiness, high salary and comfortable environment are highly acclaimed by students. What is reflected in the chart is most thought-provoking and worth discussing among the general public for the time being. The contributing factors responsible for this phenomenon can be summarized as follows. To begin with, the spirit of challenge is missing among most university students. As is indicated in the chart above, the majority of students regard steadiness as their top ideal career standard. The very fact shows that now most university students lack the confidence and courage to face hardships and difficulties in terms of work. Whats more, most students are money-oriented and self-centered. Therefore, high income and comfortable environment are viewed as the most important factors in terms of their standards, which indicates most people lack the spirit of serving the people and rewarding the society. In short, the employment ideal of university students needs to be adjusted. In my view, some necessary measures should be taken to establish new ideal occupation standards among university students. For one thing, a widespread education campaign must be launched to popularize correct employment concepts. For another, a healthy social environment should be created so as to guide the development of students mind. Only in these ways can university students find their ideal jobs in our harmonious society. The kitchen is my favorite room in a house, because it is where families gather. To me, that is the most important thing. So many of the memories people have of growing up revolve around the kitchen. My childhood memories concern the kitchens in my grandparents ‘homes. My mother’s family lived in a row house in the city. The rooms were all small, and that included the kitchen. In the summertime, when we’d visit, the back door of the house would be left open. People would be sitting on the back porch and in the kitchen, talking and laughing, while my grandmother made dinner. There was no air-conditioning, but I don’t ever remember feeling too hot. There was always a breeze coming through, along with the sounds of traffic and kids playing ball in the street. My father’s family liver on a farm in the country, and their house had a huge kitchen with windows on three sides. It seems like the windows were always open and the curtains blowing with the breeze. The main door to the house was almost never used. Everyone came in through the kitchen, and sat at the big table in the middle of the room. When dinner was being prepared, all the women would bustle around, while the men sat at the table talking about farm prices. Sometimes my grandmother wouldn’t even sit down during dinner, but would be refilling bowls of food and people’s glasses. From outside ,we could hear the cows in the field near the house. These two kitchens are the background for some of my happiest memories. From the beginning of time, human beings have gathered together near the fire where the food was being prepared. I hope that never changes. I think high school students should be allowed to choose some of the subjects they study. However, the basic subjects, like mathematics, literature, and science, should be mandatory for all students. When I was in high school, we were allowed to choose three electives each semester. Electives were subjects that weren’t part of the basic curriculum. They included things like music, journalism, art, and various kinds of team sports. Choosing some of these subjects to study gave me a chance to experiment. I was able to get a head start on what I was going to study in college. However, college preparation shouldn’t be the main factor. I think all students should be allowed to take a certain number of courses just because they’re interested in them. For many students, high school is the last chance to learn about things they’re interested in. Maybe once they have a job there won’t be time for studying.Of course, it’s also important that students study certain basic subjects. If I’d had a choice, I know I wouldn’t have studied mathematics or science. I wasn’t very interested in them. However, once I was in class, I found myself getting interested. I wouldn’t have known this if I’d been given the choice, because I would have chosen not to take the courses.High school students aren’t always the best judges of what they’ll find useful in the years ahead. They need the guidance of experts in the field of education. However, they also need some freedom to follow their curiosity and individual interests. They should be given the freedom to choose some courses, while being required to take others.考研英语作文万能模板篇四when did sport begin? if sport is, in essence, play, the claim might be made that sport is much older than humankind, for , as we all have observed, the beasts play. dogs and cats wrestle and play ball games. fishes and birds dance. the apes have simple, pleasurable games. frolicking infants, school children playing tag, and adult arm wrestlers are demonstrating strong, transgenerational and transspecies bonds with the universe of animals - past, present, and future. young animals, particularly, tumble, chase, run wrestle, mock, imitate, and laugh (or so it seems) to the point of delighted ehaustion. their play, and ours, appears to serve no other purpose than to give pleasure to the players, and apparently, to remove us temporarily from the anguish of life in earnest.some philosophers have claimed that our playfulness is the most noble part of our basic nature. in their generous conceptions, play harmlessly and eperimentally permits us to put our creative forces, fantasy, and imagination into action. play is release from the tedious battles against scarcity and decline which are the incessant, and inevitable, tragedies of life. this is a grand conception that ecites and provokes. the holders of this view claim that the origins of our highest accomplishments ---- liturgy, literature, and law ---- can be traced to a play impulse which, paradoically, we see most purely enjoyed by young beasts and children. our sports, in this rather happy, nonfatalistic view of human nature, are more splendid creations of the nondatable, transspecies play impulse.the origin of sports! In most cases, one should never judge a person by external appearances. Sometimes when I walk down the street at night, I avoid people who are acting tough and loud, but in general, I prefer to reserve judgment until I get to know someone. Judging someone by external appearance can be deceptive. Judgments based on external appearances prevent you from getting to know a person reinforce stereotypes, and are superficial and limiting. In high school, I stayed away from students who were called the bad students because they dressed a certain way. I wanted nothing to do with them. I later had the chance to meet one ofthese bad students because of our mothers, we started talking and I realized that we had a lot in common. My impression of him was very different once I got to know him.If you form an opinion of someone based on stereotypes, you risk never getting to know someone who is different. You may are be missing out on an opportunity to make a good friend. In addition, you are reinforcing that stereotype by believing it without given the person a chance. If you take the time to get to know the person, you might become friends.Judging people by external appearance is superficial and often unfair. After all, you don#39;t know what circumstances the person might be facing or who the person really is. Perhaps the person comes from a less fortunate family than you and cannot afford the kind of stylish clothes your friends wear. However, that does not mean the person is less intelligent or interesting than you are.People should not be naive about new people they meet, but should take time to get to know them. External appearance often does not tell us anything about a person. Judging someone by their appearance is misleading, reinforces stereotypes, and is limiting. Doing so could prevent you from making a true friend.考研英语作文万能模板篇六happy birthday to you where did that song come from?the story of how the song happy birthday to you came to be, began as a sweet one, that later soured. two sisters, mildred hill, a teacher at the louisville, kentucky eperimental kindergarten, and dr. patty hill, the principal of the same school, together wrote a song for the children, entitled good morning to all. when mildred combined her musical talents, as the resident epert on spiritual songs, and as the organist for her church, with her sisters epertise in the area of kindergarten education, good morning to all was sure to be a success.the sisters published the song in a collection entitled song stories of the kindergarten in 1893. thirty-one years later, after dr. patty hill became the head of the department of kindergarten education at columbia universitys teacher college, a gentleman by the name of robert h. coleman published the song, without the sisters permission. to add insult to injury, he added a second verse, the familiar happy birthday to you.mr. colemans addition of the second verse popularized the song and, eventually, the sisters original first verse disappeared. happy birthday to you, the one and only birthday song, had altogether replaced the sisters original title, good morning to all.after mildred died in 1916, patty, together with a third sister named jessica, sprang into action and took mr. coleman to court. in court, they proved that they, indeed, owned the melody. because the family legally owns the song, it is entitled to royalties from it, whenever it is sung for commercial purposes.考研英语作文万能模板篇七chinese language faces some challenges. as compared with english and other latin based languages, chinese is less popular and more difficuh for computer word processing. some college students, wondering whether it is still one of the best languages in the world, neglect chinese study.etensive research has revealed that chinese possesses many advantages over other languages. written chinese is based on a set of ideogram characters. from a simple word one may obtain a wealth of information about its hidden meaning, evolution history and related phrases. historians can decipher the damaged ancient characters carved on o hones but no suchachievement could be obtained with latin-based languages. to epress a given idea, the chinese version is always the shortest, most accurate and most , chinese kids learn chinese by memorizing patterns or funny pictures which stimulate curiosity and imagination. it is well recognized that human brains work well with patterns and pattern recognition in turn promotes brain development. whats more, chinese is also easy to learn. many foreigners speak chinese fluently after a few years of learning. recently, several word processing programs have been successfully developed for chinese language and turned out to be better than those designed for english.chinese is the crystallization of the splendid culture developed continuously for over 5,000 years. many treasures remain to be eplored. as china grows stronger, more and more foreigners will learn chinese and share the invaluable treasure.。

the media and famous people in almost every form of media, including television, newspapers and magazines, a great deal of attention is paid to the personal lives of celebrities. it seems that the public cannot get enough of this kind of news. however, i believe that the media have a responsibility to present a balanced view of the world, as well as respect the lives of public figures. therefore, i believe that the media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people.
for people who are fascinated with the lives of public figures there are some forms of media devoted exclusively to this topic. they can satisfy their curiosity by buying fan magazines and watching tv shows devoted to entertainment news. the general media should present all types of information because people have different interests. furthermore, the practice of dwelling on the private lives of celebrities can lead people to pay more attention to these matters than they otherwise would. perhaps most importantly, the media should respect the privacy of every individual, including public figures. they may have chosen to be in the public eye, but that does not give the public the right to know everything about them. moreover, many stories about celebrities are untrue; they are only gossip reported to increase sales of magazines and other media. they are unfair to the famous and mislead the public.

Use specific reasons andexamples to support your choice.Model Essay(范文):Music seems to be a natural need for people. Ive read that from ancient times human beingshave produced sounds from “instrument” like rocks or skins stretched over a wooden frame.Music is something most people want and need. I think its important because it can be a majorpart of both community and individual experience.Music is a way of sharing a common bond or feeling. When were children, we learn very simplesongs called nursery rhymes. These songs help make us part of our culture by telling us whatsacceptable and whats not. We play and sing music in our religious ceremonies because itenhances the worship experience. We play music when were going to war or celebrating thefact that were won a war.We have national anthems to share our love and pride for our particular country. We havemusic we play for our school, and music we play for our athletic team. In fact, music hasbecome a big part of athletic games. We use it to taunt the other team as well as celebratewhen points are scored for our team.Music is also a major part of individual experiences. When we fall in love, music is usually a partof that experience. People talk about having “our song.” That means the song that was playingwhen they met or a song they both liked when they fell in love. When we get married, we playmusic before and after and sometimes during the ceremony. It expresses how we feel. We playmusic to calm our nerves or to stimulate ourselves to get on with a task. We also play musicfor the simple enjoyment of listening to the sounds.Music is special to us because it expresses our connection with our culture, and because itenhance our individual experiences. Nothing else seems to capture our feelings quite so well.

1. I've always been a big fan of traveling. There'sjust something so exhilarating about exploring new places and immersing myself in different cultures.2. The first time I traveled abroad was when I was in college. I went on a backpacking trip through Europe with some friends, and it was truly a life-changing experience.3. One of the things I love most about traveling is trying new foods. I'm always up for sampling the local cuisine, whether it's street food in Thailand or a fancy restaurant in Paris.4. Another thing I enjoy about traveling is meeting new people. I've made some incredible friends from all over the world, and it's amazing how travel can bring people together.5. Of course, there are also challenges that come withtraveling. From navigating language barriers to dealing with homesickness, it's not always smooth sailing.6. Despite the challenges, I believe that the benefits of traveling far outweigh the drawbacks. It's an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery.7. In the future, I hope to continue traveling and exploring new destinations. There's still so much of the world left to see, and I can't wait to experience it all.。

The picture vividly depicts a lovely American girl in traditional Chinese costume with a sweet smile on her face. She wears ribbons, necklaces and other accessories that are characteristic of the clothes of a certain Chinese minority group. Undoubtedly, the costume has added oriental charm/glamour to her beautiful look/appearance/features.What the picture conveys goes far beyond only/merely a new fashion trend. Instead, it carries cultural meanings/implications as well. The fact that people from different countries are attracted to mysterious Chinese culture indicates that to some extent a culture can be accepted, respected, appreciated and shared internationally. In other words, a nation’s unique/distinctive culture can become international through worldwide economic and cultural exchanges. Since the trend of globalization become irresistible, the increasing cultural exchanges can effectively improve mutual understanding and friendship. It is my view that national culture as priceless spiritual treasure should be preserved and cherished. Meanwhile, there are good reasons to advocate international culture for those ideas from the other cultures, controversial or even absurd at first sight, can provide a different perspective for us to observe the world in the long run. Nevertheless, when we are confronted with a different culture, we should be sensible enough to absorb its essence and to resist its dark side. Only in this way can wepromote cultural development positively and make our world dimensional, colorful and vigorous.
There was a time when the owners of shops and businesses in Chicago had to pay large sums of money to gangsters in return for 'protection.' If the money was not paid promptly, the gangsters would quickly put a man out of business by destroying his shop. Obtaining 'protection money' is not a modern crime. As long ago as the fourteenth century, an Englishman, Sir John Hawk wood, made the remarkable discovery that people wouldrather pay large sums of money as have their life work destroyed by gangsters.Six hundred years ago, Sir Johan Hawk wood arrived in Italy with a band of soldiers and settled near Florence. He soon made a name for himself and came to be known to the Italians as Giovanni Acuto. Whenever the Italian city-states were at war with each other, Hawk wood used to hire his soldiers to princes who were willing to pay the high price he demanded. In times of peace, when business was bad, Hawk wood and his men would march into a city-state and, after burning down a few farms, would offer to go away if protection money was paid to them. Hawk wood made large sums of money in this way. In spite of this, the Italians regarded him as a sort of hero. When he died at the age of eighty, the Florentines gave him a state funeral and had a pictured painted which was dedicated to the memory of 'the most valiant soldier and most notable leader, Signor Giovanni Haukodue.'
Lesson 24 A skeleton in the cupboard “家丑”We often read in novels how a seemingly respectable person or family has some terrible secret which has been concealed from strangers for years. The English language possesses a vivid saying to describe this sort of situation. The terrible secret is called ‘a skeleton in the cupboard’. At some dramatic moment in the story, the terrible secret becomes known and a reputation is ruined. The reader's hair stands on end when he reads in the final pages of the novel that the heroine, a dear old lady who had always been so kind to everybody, had, in her youth, poisoned every one of her five husbands. It is all very well for such things to occur in fiction. To varying degrees, we all have secrets which we do not want even our closest friends to learn, but few of us have skeletons in the cupboard. The only person I know who has a skeleton in the cupboard is George Carlton, and he is very proud of the fact. George studied medicine in his youth. Instead of becoming a doctor, however, he became a successful writer of detective stories. I once spent an uncomfortable weekend which I shallnever forget at his house. George showed me to the guest-room which, he said, was rarely used. He told me to unpack my things and then come down to dinner. After I had stacked my shirts and underclothes in two empty drawers, I decided to hang one of the two suits I had brought with me in the cupboard. I opened the cupboard door and then stood in front of it petrified. A skeleton was dangling before my eyes. The sudden movement of the door made it sway slightly and it gave me the impression that it was about to leap out at me. Dropping my suit, I dashed downstairs to tell George. This was worse than ‘a terrible secret’; this was a real skeleton! But George was unsympathetic. ‘Oh, that,’ he said with a smile as if he were talking about an old friend. ‘That's Sebastian. You forget that I was a medical student once upon a time.
