试卷整体上平稳、成熟，难度适中，区分度理想，较好地完成了为高校选拔优秀人才和促进高中新课程高考改革的任务。
一、试题特点2010年江苏卷的命题题材广泛，内容生活化，话题涵盖人文、社会、教育、文化、科技、环保等方面，材料中需考生思考的成分多；体裁多样，涉及记叙文、议论文、应用文、说明文、夹叙夹议等类型的文章；语言地道、规范；试卷考点分布有序，重点突出，难度合理。
（一）强化词汇，突出语用《2010年普通高等学校招生江苏省统一考试英语科说明》（江苏省教育考试院，2009，以下简称“考试说明”）中的词汇在《课标》要求的3500基础上，又增加了169个比较常见的词。
随着对词汇要求的提高，单项填选择题干与题项中出现了如attain, attach, distinguish等次常见词汇，单项填空中有4题为词义辨析，强化了对词汇的考察；另外，试卷对合成、转换、派生等常用构词法的考查也有所体现，做到了与高中新课改相呼应。
