所以,很多公司都开始使用Competency(胜任力) 来进行评估。

1.Tell me about yourself.

1、At what point did you choose this careerI knew that I wanted to pursue information systems technology about my sophomore year in college. It was then that I realized that my hobby (computers) was taking up most of my time. My favorite courses were IT courses. I also realized that I was doing computer-oriented work-study that I enjoyed so much I would have done it for free.2、What specific goals have you established for your careerMy goals include becoming a Certified Financial Advisor so I can obtain a better working knowledge of financial research analysis, which would allow me contribute to my client base as a better financial consultant since I would have that extra insight into the companies they are seeking to invest in. Also this is the foundation block to advancing my career to portfolio manager or even branch office manager.3、What will it take to attain your goals, and what steps have you taken toward attaining themI’ve already done some research on other workers at Merrill Lynch to see how they achieved similar goals. I know that Merrill Lynch encourages the pursuit and will reimburse for tuition of a graduate degree. I plan on pursuing a MBA to give me an even more extensive knowledge of business and financial analysis.4、How did you handle a challenge-During a difficult financial period, I was able to satisfactorily negotiate repayment schedules with multiple vendors.-When the software development of our new product stalled, I coordinated the team which managed to get the schedule back on track. We were able to successfully troubleshoot the issues and solve the problems, within a very short period of time.-A long-term client was about to take their business to a competitor. I met with the customer and was able to change how we handled the account on a day-to-day basis, in order to keep the business5、When you’re asked what your greatest weakness is, try to turn a negative into a positive. For example, a sense of urgency to get projects completed or wanting to triple-check every item in a spreadsheet can be turnedinto a strength. i.e. you are a candidate who will make sure that the project is done on time and your work will be close to perfect.Weakness-When I’m working on a project, I don’t want just to meet deadlines. Rather, I prefer to complete the project well ahead of schedule.-Being organized wasn’t my strongest point, but I implemented a time management system that really helped my organization skills.-I like to make sure that my work is perfect, so I tend to perhaps spend a little t oo much time checking it. However, I’ve come to a good balance by setting up a system to ensure everything is done correctly the first time.-I used to wait until the last minute to set appointments for thecoming week, but I realized that scheduling in advance makes much more sense.Strength-When I’m working on a project, I don’t want just to meet deadlines. I need good stress to stay motivated and productive.-I react to situations, rather than to stress. That way, the situation is handled and doesn’t become stressful.-I actually work better under pressure and I’ve found that I enjoy working in a challenging environment.-From a personal perspective, I manage stress by visiting the gym every evening. It’s a great stress reducer.-Prioritizing my responsibilities so I have a clear idea of what needs to be done when, has helped me effectively manage pressure on the job.-If the people I am managing are contributing to my stress level, I discuss options for better handling difficult situations with them.7、What’s motivates you-I was responsible for several projects where I directed development teams and implemented repeatable processes. The teams achieved 100% on-time delivery of software products. I was motivated both by the challenge of finishing the projects ahead of schedule and by managing the teams that achieved our goals.-I’ve always been motivated by the desire to do a good job at whatever position I’m in. I want to excel and to be successful in my job, both for my own personal satisfaction and for my employer.-I have always wanted to ensure that my company’s clients get the best customer service I can provide. I’ve always felt that it’s important, both to me personally, and for the company and the clients, to provide a positive customer experience.-I have spent my career in sales, typically in commission-based positions, and compensation has always been a strong factor in motivating me to be the top salesperson at my prior employers.8、Salary NegotiationsIf you’re asked what your salary requirements are, say that they are open based upon the position and the overall compensation package. Or tell the employer you’d like to know more about the responsibilities and the challenges of the job prior to discussing salary.Another option is to give the employer a salary range based upon the salary research you’ve done up front. Once you’ve received the offer you don’t need to accept (or reject) it right away. A simple “I need to think it over” can get you an increase in the original offer. And if you’re ambivalent about the position a “no” can bring youa better offer too. I turned down a position I knew I didn’t want, regardless of salary, and received three follow-up phone calls upping the compensation package.9、Negotiating a RaiseBe aware of company policy regarding compensation. Be flexible. Would you consider an extra couple of weeks vacation instead of a raise I know someone who’s regularly taken time-off instead of money and now has six vacation weeks a year… Then, ask your supervisor for a meeting to discuss salary. Present your request, supported by documentation, calmly and rationally. Don’t ask for an immediate answer. Your boss is mostly likely going to have to discuss it with Human Resources and/or other company managers. Despite your best efforts, there may simply not be enough money in the budget to increase your salary or compensation package offer. The company may also not want to create inequities by paying one person more than others in a similar position. In that case, you can at least know you tried. Plus, if this is a job you really thi nk that you’re going to love, consider whether the company culture, the benefits, and the job itself are worth it – regardless of the salary.10、What Are You Passionate About-One of my greatest passions is helping others. When I was younger, I’ve en joyed helping mom with household repairs. As I grew older, that habit grew and I desired to help others as well. I like helping people find solutions that meet their specific needs.-I’m passionate about painting. I take an evening art class once a week and try to find time each weekend to paint. Painting is a good way for me to relax and even though I don’t have much talent, I doit enjoy it.-I lost my father to pancreatic cancer and ever since then, I have spent time volunteering to help raise awareness and funding for cancer research. I volunteer for PanCan, the advocacy group, and I’m part of their volunteer network. Competency-based Interview
Question
Competency based questions are interview questions that require candidates to provide real-life examples as the basis of their answers. Candidates should explain why they made certain decisions, how they implemented these
decisions and why certain outcomes took place.
Communication:Tell us about a time you had to adjust your communication approach to suit a particular audience.
Decision making:Give an example of a time when you had to make a difficult decision.
Leadership: Describe a situation when you assumed the role of leader. Were there any challenges, and how did you address them?
Results orientation:Give me an example of a time when you were particularly successful.
Teamwork:Describe a situation in which you were working as part of a team. How did you make a contribution?
Trustworthiness:Give me an example of a time you were deceptive.
S ituation: Describe the situation.
T ask: Describe what task was required of you.
A ction: Tell the interviewer what action you took.
R esult: Conclude by describing the result of that action.
Tell me about a time when you failed to complete a task or project on time, despite intending to do so.
During my final year at university I failed to deliver my dissertation by the due date. This was because I was heavily involved in cutting-edge research right up until the end of my course and
was waiting for imminent results from surveys being undertaken by researchers at other academic institutions .
Considering this was my final piece of academic work, I wanted to ensure it was based on the most accurate and up-to-date sources of information available, even if this meant a delay in production. To ensure no marks were deducted from my dissertation, I contacted my course director and personal tutor two weeks before my dissertation due date to discuss my particular situation. I argued my case, and was consequently allowed an extra two weeks to produce my work.
Although my work was delayed, I feel that this delay was justified in that the work was of the highest quality it could be. Furthermore, I sufficiently organised myself in relation to my department and tutors, so that all relevant people were aware of a possible delay in the production of my dissertation.。
