It’s my great honor to be here to say something about the global water shortage and ways of dealing with it.Many people believe that(if 删掉)the world’s supply of fresh water will never be used up. As a matter of fact, the earth is short of fresh water. Besides, with the rapid growth of the world’s population, the world is facing the danger of running out of fresh water. What can we do to solve the problem?First, we should be aware of the importance of saving water in our daily life. Second, scientists must work hard to find substitutes to reduce the use of fresh water. Third, strict laws should be passed to control the water pollution. So it’s high time for us to take measures to stop pollution and save water. That’s all. Thank you.六、作文范文Yours,Li Hua听力原文(Text 1)M: It’s going to be another warm day.W: Of course. You know, I miss living somewhere that has four seasons.M: Me, too. I especially miss those cool autumn mornings.(Text 2)M: Do you have any change for one dollar?W: What do you want it for?M: I need to pay for the parking fee.W: I can just give you 4 quarters if that’ll help you.(Text 3)M: With all these new orders, we’re going t o have to hire more production workers.W: Are you sure, Mr Heath? We still have plenty of goods available.M: Yes, but that won’t last forever, and we just can’t ask our workers to put in any more overtime.(Text 4)M: Excuse me, ma’ma. Why don’t you sit down here?W: No, thank you. I’m getting off at the next bus stop.(Text 5)M: Welcome back, madam. How did you find the drive? It’s a bit different from your own car, isn’t it?W: Well, I certainly liked the radio control. I always think I’m going to have an accident every time I change stations in my car.(Text 6)W: Good morning, Hilton Hotel. Can I help you?M: Good morning. I’d like to book a single room with a bath.W: I’m afraid the single room has been booked out. How about the double room with a b ath?M: That’s ok. How much is the fee per night?W: $70. When will you be arriving and leaving, sir?M: From Monday, October 22nd to Friday, October 26th, for 4 nights.(Text 7)W: Jack, our teacher let me ask you which circus tickets you’ve decided to bu y.M: Well. There wasn’t much choice of them. There weren’t enough of the£12.50 seats for all of us, which is what I was planning to buy. And although there were lots of seats at£15.50, these were only on weekday afternoons, which I know wasn’t suitable for us. So I’m afraid I’ve gone for the ones at£17.50. I know it’s more than we wanted to pay, but at least we won’t be right at the back.W: OK.(Text 8)W: How did you get interested in country music?M: Well, when my friend and I first got our record player, we started to buy all kinds of records--jazz, country music and rock. Soon I found that I was buying more country music records than any other kind.W: How did you start working for the radio station?M: I thought there should be a radio program of country songs, so I went to CBC and suggested it. That was how we started the program called Golden Country Time.W: Then you were asked to write articles to explain the background of those songs.M: Yes, but soon I got tired of running to the library to find information, so I started buying country song books and building my own library.(Text 9)M: I’m tired. I went to sleep late last night.W: Did you work overtime again?M: No. I watched that new reality TV show till midnight.W: Oh, you didn’t watch that rubbish, did you? It’s just a group of people, stuck in a house, doing nothing! I have to admit it was attractive when it was new. But it’s strange to think people are still watching the same shows nowadays. It seems to me that those shows just feed the big desire everyone seems to have for media attention. Everyone wants to be a star these days.M: But there are still some people signing up for those shows just to experience a different life or to earn some money.W: Anyway, I have no interest in these nobodies whose idea of fame is that they were on a reality TV show. I admire people with real talent who’ve actually earned their fame because they are different from the rest of us.M: Hmm, I don’t think so on that way. Maybe we need to rethink what f ame is!(Text 10)W: Welcome to the Ipswich Arts Festival. If you f ollow the path through the middle of the park, you’ll reachthe Catering Village, where you can buy food and drinks. Just past there is an area between the Catering Village and the toilets where you’ll find an exhibition of paintings all done by local arti sts. If you then go back past the Catering Village, on the left is this year’s Craft Market. This is always a popular area of the festival, where you can admire the handwork of our talented exhibitors. As always, we have live bands playing on stage throughout the festival. At first I did not take her story seriously. ”But Lisa kept talking about her dream. She told it to her father, David. So Jahira and David decided to pay for Lisa to learn gymnastics. So Lisa started to train at a special and competitive gym. Though only 7 years old, she was already training to compete at a high level. The years passed quickly. Lisa got better and better. An Olympic DreamD. A Helping HandCPope Benedict named five new saints on Sunday, including a Catholic priest, Father Damien, who cared for people in a leper (麻风病患者) colony.Father Damien was born Joseph De Veuster in Belgium. In 1873 he went to the Hawaiian island of Molokai. After several years of working in the colony, he himself developed leprosy (麻风病). Father Damien died in 1889, when he was 49 years old.Leprosy —also called Hansen’s disease — is a bacterial disease that causes skin wounds and nerve damage. The disease can severely disfigure (使变丑) victims and cause death. Untreated patients can spread the bacteria from their nose and mouth through the air to people who are near them a lot.But doctors have been able to treat leprosy since the 1940s. Today they use a combination of three drugs. Experts say after the first treatment, patients can no longer infect others. At the start of this year there were 213,000 cases of leprosy reported in 121 countries. The World Health Organization says there were almost 250,000 new cases last year. But the drug combination can cure the disease within six to twelve months. The number of new cases has been falling in many countries. But there are places where leprosy is still spreading quickly. These include areas of Angola, Brazil, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo and India. Other areas are in Madagascar, Mozambique, Nepal and Tanzania.Leprosy is an ancient disease. Its victims have been highly looked down upon — often blamed for their condition and made to feel unclean. In India, leprosy has traditionally been considered a punishment for something bad done in a former life. Other cultures have considered it a sign of evil.James Staples teaches in the School of Social Sciences at Brunel University in Britain. He is the author of the book Peculiar People, Amazing Lives: Leprosy, Social Exclusion and Community Making in South India. He tells us that modern knowledge about leprosy does not necessarily reduce the stigma. Public health campaigns spread the message that leprosy is curable and not highly infectious. Yet he says this message is often more scary for people than the idea that leprosy is some sort of spiritual punishment. That explanation may not do much for the patient’s place in society, he says, “but at least other people don’t think they are going to catch it.”28. Some readers even jumped to an absurd conclusion that “EI accounts for 80 percent of success.”I never made the claim that EI matters more than IQ for academic achievements. My argument is actually that emotional and social skills give people advantages in areas where such abilities make the most difference, like love and leadership. EI does better than IQ in “soft” ar eas, where intelligence matters relatively little for success.IQ is a much stronger predictor (预测指标) than EI of which jobs or professions people can enter. However, having enough intelligence to hold a given job does not by itself predict whether one will be a star performer or rise to management or leadership positions in one’s field. In part this is because everyone at the top level of a given profession has already been examined for intelligence. At those top levels a high IQ becomes a basic ability, one needed just to get into and stay in the game. The one place, I expect, we will be seeing more data showing a relationship between skills in the emotional and social area and school performance, will be in studies of children who have gone through social/emotional learning (SEL) programs. These courses give students the self-management skills they need to do better on academic achievement scores. A study from the University of Illinois finds around a 10 percent increase in achievement test scores among these students. Probably, the SEL programs would also have meant higher scores on the particular assessment of EI used in the Australian study, and so if they had tested such children, there may well have been a positive connection. Therefore, learning seems to be another area where EI may matter —whether more than IQ is a question based on experience. This is what I want to explain on this website.32.
