1Camping CousinsMy cousin Allen was the coolest person in all of Minneapolis. By the age of 19, he was a star football player at the University of Minnesota. I wanted to be just like him. So when Allen asked me to join him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota, I said yes! After planning the trip, we gathered clothes and supplies and then set off on our adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest by early evening. On the way to our campsite, Allen pointed to a small house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station(护林站)where the foresters worked.Allen knew all the tricks of an experienced camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest floor, he started the campfire using only stone and steel — no matches. After a day of travelling, we were very hungry. We ate beef and rice and some soup as well.Exhausted, we crawled into our sleeping bags early. Allen was still talking about his past camping adventures when a sadden wind picked up from the north. The temperature dropped and it began to snow. Allen knew of a way to increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log from the woods, wrapped aluminum foil(铝箔)around the log and then placed it near the campfire. The heat from the fire reflected into the tent. Soon the tent was warm again and thoughts of lake fish filled my dreams.I was still dreaming when Allen woke me up in a panic. Our tent was on fire! The snow had stopped during the night, but the wind had fanned the flames of the fire towards our tent. Frightened by the flames, I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed with Allen inside. Without any hesitation, I reached into the burning tent, grabbed him, and dragged him to the icy lake. We checked each other to make sure neither of us were hurt.

分析故事情节一般从故事六要素着手,即who, when, where, what, why, how。

I needed to do something in my community (社区) in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner. As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the hom eless: How should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous. I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting.I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had tally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me t o think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

As I walked into the examination room, my heart raced with anticipation. This was it—the final exam of the New College Entrance Examination, also known as the "new gaokao". This new format had been met with mixed reactions, but I felt ready to tackle whatever challenge awaited me.The teacher distributed the exam papers, and I quickly scanned the questions. The first section asked us to read a passage and answer questions about it. As I read the passage, my mind raced with ideas. The author discussed the importance of environmental protection, urging readers to take action.Inspired by the passage, I answered the questions with passion. I wrote about the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions and the importance of conserving water resources. I also emphasized the significance of educating future generations about the environment. With each word I penned, I felt a sense of responsibility towards our planet.Moving on to the second section, I was confronted with a series of comprehension exercises. One of the passages discussed the benefits of extracurricular activities for students. I have always been an advocate for holistic education, so I poured my thoughts onto the paper. I wrote about how extracurricular activities cultivate creativity and teamwork, preparing students for real-world challenges.I continued to tackle each section with a renewed sense of confidence. In the listening section, I carefully listened to the audioclips, absorbing every detail. I was determined to answer every question correctly. With each passage I understood, I felt a sense of accomplishment. Finally, as time ticked away, I reached the last section: essay writing. The prompt asked us to discuss our perspectives on artificial intelligence and its impact on society. This was a topic that fascinated me, and I eagerly began composing my thoughts on the page.I wrote about the potential benefits of AI in improving efficiency and advancing medical research. However, I also acknowledged the ethical concerns surrounding AI, such as privacy and job displacement. I emphasized the need for regulation and careful implementation to ensure that AI benefits society as a whole. As I handed in my exam, a wave of relief washed over me. I had given it my all and felt proud of my performance. The "new gaokao" had challenged me, but I had embraced it. I had not only demonstrated my knowledge and skills, but also conveyed my thoughts and opinions on important issues.Although the outcome of this exam was yet to be determined, I knew that my experience with the "new gaokao" had been enriching. It had encouraged me to think critically, express myself confidently, and embrace the complexities of the world around me. This journey had not only prepared me for higher education but also for life beyond the classroom, where I could make a positive difference in society.。

When you got out of the tank, she swam over to the filter box. I jumped back in to check it out. This is the stuff I found.”Hilda spread out the items she had found behind the filter box: a variety of combs, a small rubber duck, and even a plastic toy fish. Katherine looked astonished as she examined the objects. Now Katherine realized what had been going on. “Well, I guess I owe you an apology, Hilda. I jumped to conclusions without understanding what was really going on.” said Katherine. “Every time you found something in the tank, that meant one less fish for Maya. She c ouldn’t bring all the items to me at once, so she found a hiding place for them. That way Maya would always get her treat.” Maya was smart. Hilda and Katherine burst out laughing. Shaking their heads in disbelief, they reached for the bucket of fish. Maya deserved the treat.2024年1月浙江卷When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. Looking around, she realized what her coach meant. Instead of being left in the dust, she found herself among the top three. “I just can’t believe it,”Eva gasped, unable to contain her excitement. Her mouth curved up into a smile and her face lit up with a sense of confidence. The mind trick had worked wonders and the word “mile” was no longer a monster for her. She felt energetic, refreshed and powerful and believed she could overcome any obstacle in her life, including her poor sense of direction.Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She stopped racking her brains for which direction to go. Instead, she created a detailed map of the six-story building, highlighting key landmarks with different colors. Breaking down the routes into smaller sections, she explored each day, one at a time. Days turned into weeks, and now navigating the huge building seemed like a piece of cake. This episode served as a reminder that with great determination and a clever mind trick, one can achieve anything and reach far.2023年6月新课标卷One possible version:A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. A round of applause rang through the hall.I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation.“Congratulations again! I knew you had it in you,” he said warmly, signaling me to take a seat. “Thank you.” I replied, with a mixture of gratitude and excitement. I reflectedon my initial doubts and hesitations. Sometimes, all it takes is someone who believes in us, someone who sees our potential even when we don’t see it ourselves. Leaving his office that day, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and determination. I knew that this was just the beginning. I was inspired to keep writing and exploring my creativity.2023年1月浙江卷One possible version:A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. "Forget it, it was just a bird," I let out a deep sigh and made my way out.I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. There she was, flapping her wings and approaching me. A cry of joy escaped my throat. "Hey, old girl! How is everything going?" I called softly. Then she landed in my cupped hands and stared into my eyes. I stroked her feathers gently. Moments later, she uttered a squeaking call, spread her wings and flew into the sky. It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn't with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run. What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!I quickly searched the crowd for the school's coach and asked him what had happened. "I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him," he explained uncomfortably. "I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide."I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well —he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer —that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination. We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me.I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners.【范文赏析】We sat down together on some steps, but David wouldn’t look at me.I turned him around and looked him in the eye sincerely. I quietly said, “David, if you’re not running because you’re afraid someone is going to laugh, that’s not a good enough reason. Are you going to let them get in your way? If you really want to run, David, run!” I held my breath as David took this in. Then he looked at the field and said with a fierce but quiet determination, “I’m gonna run.”I watched as David moved up to the starting line. The starter’s gun sounded. But he had only gone a few metres before he tripped and fell flat on the ground. My heart sank. As I started to shout encouragement, other voices around me took up the call. “Come on David, you can do it!” David picked himself up and started again until he crossed the finish line to wild cheers and applause.最后几句结尾有三种:第一种:(首选结尾)That day, David got a special award for his courage. He wasn't mean or abusive; he just gave me the impression he could do whatever project we dreamed up better if he did it alone.Needless to say, I didn't look forward to an entire term of being brushed off, but I tried to make the best of it and didn't say anything for fear that I would make things worse. The project required each team to develop a hypothesis (假说), set up an experiment to test the hypothesis, do the statistical analysis and present the findings. Whatever grade the team received would be shared by both students. When my teammate and I met to discuss our project, I was uneasy. Here was this challenging student who had a reputation for single-mindedness and good grades—the exact opposite of me.I was outmatched. I actually wanted to drop the class at one point, but stopped short because I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of my chickening out. I decided to stick to it no matter what. After long discussions we somehow agreed to do a study on the psychological well-being of teenagers. I wasn't sure what it meant exactly, but at least we had a topic.

Title: A Journey of DiscoveryAs I opened the door to the small, dimly lit antique shop, a wave of nostalgia washed over me. The musty smell of old books filled the air, and the creaking wooden floorboards beneath my feet seemed to whisper stories of the past. It was a serene place, far different from the hustle and bustle ofthe modern world outside.I spotted an old, leather-bound book lying atop a dusty shelf. Its title, "The Chronicles of Adventure," intrigued me. With trembling hands, I carefully blew off the dust andopened it to the first page. To my surprise, the words on the page were written in elegant calligraphy and seemed to come alive before my eyes.As I continued to read, I found myself transported to a world of excitement and wonder. The author, a seasonedexplorer named Amelia, chronicled her journey through uncharted territories, encountering ancient civilizations and uncovering hidden treasures. Each page was a testament to her boundless courage and insatiable curiosity, inspiring me to embark on my own adventure.Days turned into nights as I delved deeper into Amelia's captivating narrative. I became consumed by her tales of perilous expeditions and breathtaking discoveries. It was as if I had become a part of her world, accompanying her on every step of her adventure. With every page, my mind expanded, and my perspective widened. I realized that the world was much more vast and diverse than I had ever imagined. The people and cultures Amelia encountered taught me the true meaning of empathy and tolerance. I began to appreciate the beauty that lay in our differences, realizing that unity lay not in uniformity, but in embracing diversity. The more I read, the more I saw the parallels between Amelia's journey and our own lives. We are all explorers, constantly seeking new experiences and knowledge to satiate our thirst for understanding. Just as Amelia faced challenges and obstacles, we too encounter our fair share ofdifficulties. However, it is through perseverance and an unwavering belief in our abilities that we are able to overcome them and grow.As I reached the last page, a mix of emotions washed over me. Sadness, for I had come to the end of Amelia's tale; gratitude, for the lessons her story had taught me; and excitement, for the adventure that awaited me.Leaving the antique shop, I realized that the real adventure was not confined to the pages of a book; it lay in venturing out into the world and creating my own story. Armed with knowledge, courage, and an insatiable curiosity, Istepped into the unknown, ready to embark on my own journey of discovery. In conclusion, the 2023 New College Entrance Examination English reading passage takes the reader on a transformative journey through an old book. By following the protagonist's expeditions, we learn not only about the world but also about ourselves. The passage emphasizes the importance of empathy, tolerance, perseverance, and personal growth. It encourages readers to embrace diversity, face challenges head-on, and venture into the unknown. Ultimately, it ignites a passionfor exploration and self-discovery within each reader, inspiring them to create their own adventures in life.。

When Dr. Henderson was assigning (指定)project mates for his psychology class, I secretly hoped he would pair me with my best friend or at least a classmate I could have some fun with. Para 1.We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans.Para 2.One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease.【参考范文】We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans. Though I wanted to share my ideas with him fully, I failed to do so for fear that I would hold him back. I just kept nodding when he asked me whether it is ok to do this way or that way. I thought it was impossible to persuade him into accepting my views, so I didn’t want to waste our time to discuss. I started to wait to leave immediately we arrived at the place, and so did he. I just hoped that the presentation day could come earlier. One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease. I felt so sorry to hear that and I thought I should visit him in any case. He was a little surprised to see me when I stepped into his ward with some flowers and fruits. I offered to do the rest work of our project and he invited me to share my ideas to perfect it. We began to work as a fine team and finally finished our project on time. Our hard work paid off and Dr. Henderson’s was very satisfied with our wonderful findings. From this project, we also learned the significance of teammates. Just as the saying goes, one person can go far, but a group of persons can travel farther.
