Passage 1Over 70 percent of the “double single-child couples” in China need help from their parents in taking care of their own kids, according to a recent survey.Women of China magazine and a consulting company carried out a survey recently on young couples of the “single-child” generation, the Morning Post reports. The couples surveyed were around 29 and have been married for three years on average, with university education and monthly income of 4,000 yuan($531). Among them, 43.5percent have kids. Results show that 71.9 percent of the young couples have help from their parents in taking care of their kids.Grown up as the “single-child”, the only child in a family since the family planning policy which was adopted in 1979, this generation depends much on their parents. The parents of the “single-child” generation focused more on their children's physical well-being rather than their attitudes and values, according to some psychologists. The research also found that the “double single-child couples” follow a rather traditional value system.Survey shows that 27.5 percent of them got married after dating for one to two years, 25.2 percent two to five years, and 20 percent didn't tie the knot until dating for five years. Also, 30 percent of the couples were schoolmates, while 43.8 percent were introduced by someone.Since their marriage is based on enduring relationships, 65.2 percent of the husbands and 62.9 percent of the wives think that compromise(妥协)and tolerance(宽容) are necessary in their marriage. Meanwhile, 21.7 percent of the husbands and37.1 percent of the wives support the idea that happiness is the key standard fora marriage.【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了让父母照顾孩子的社会现象。

At the end of the term, we all packed our bags and our instruments to go home for the holidays. Most kids went by train,or bus,or their parents took them home by car. Not me!I went home by ferry (渡船)一14 hours overnight on the open sea. I loved it!One summer I packed my suitcase and violin and said goodbye to my friends. I took the train to the ferry station and then got on the ferry. When we started moving away,I remembered a terrible thing !I left my violin on the train ! I went to ask one of the crew (船员)what to do,but he said he couldn't stop the ferry for me.What should I do? What would my dad say? He'd be really angry! I was worried, and didn't sleep all night. The next morning I got off the ferry to meet my dad. I didn't want to look at him. I told him what happened. He laughed. I lookedat him and couldn't believe it. Why was he laughing? In my violin case,I always have a label with my address and a telephone number. Missing SuitcaseCDo you know how words came into being? It is believed that some early people invented certain sounds,in one way or another,to express thoughts and feelings, actions and things,so that they could talk with each other. Later they agreed upon certain signs, called letters, which could be put together to show those sounds, and which could be written down. Those sounds, whether spoken or written in letters, are called words. The power of words, then, lies in their association一the things they bring up to our minds. Words become filled with meanings for us by experience. The longer we live, the more certain words bring back to us the happy and sad events of our past, and the more we read and learn, the more the number of words that mean something to us increases.Great writers are those who not only have great thoughts but also express these thoughts in words which have powerful effects on our minds and feelings. This clever use of words is what we call literary style (文体).Above all, the real poet is a master of words. He can express his meaning in words which sing like music, and which can move people to tears by their position and association. We should therefore learn to choose our words carefully and use them correctly.31.According to the text, words might have begun withA. signsB. actionsC. soundsD. letters32.Sounds that are spoken or written in letters arecalled .A. wordsB. poemsC. feelingsD. thoughts33.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?A.The learning of new words.B.The importance of old words.C.The change and development of words.D.The relation of human experience with words.34.In the last paragraph, the author suggests that weshould .A.talk with poetse words skillfullyC.choose poems carefullyD.become great writers35.The text is probably taken from .A.an official documentB. a sports newspaperC.an educational magazineD.an adventure novelD"Auld Lang Syne" is a song that everyone happily sings, which marks the start of a new year. No one ever seems to know the words or what they mean, but in A- merica,it's as much a part of New Year's tradition as wine. But why?The lyrics (歌词)to the song come from a poem written by the great Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788. The title, M Auld Lang Syne", is believed to be an old Scottish way of saying "a long time ago". The opening lines of the song a Should auld acquaintance be forgotten ^and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance beforgotten ,and auld lang syne?"mean we should have a drink in honor of whatever is passing, and remember old friends. When the Scots moved to America in the 19 th century, they brought the song with them. But it was the Canadian bandleader Guy Lombardo who made it more popular. In 1965,he explained to a reporter of Life Magazine how he himself came to link the song with New Year's Eve:"A总ZH Lang Syne is our theme (主题)song —and was long before anyone ever heard us on the radio. In part of western Ontario, where there are a large number of Scots,it was traditional for bands to end ever- y dance with Auld Lang Syne. We didn't think it was known here.

2018年广西学业水平考试英语试题第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)第一节(共10小题;每小题2分,共20分)AThere was an old woman who liked to bake(烘焙) cookies. She didn’t have anyone to share them with, so she just gave them away to the children in the neighborhood. This went on for several years and the cookies became quite popular, especially at Christmas time. The parents began to like the cookies as much as the children did, and the old woman’s kitchen became very busy, so the children came to help. Then one Christmas the old woman became ill. There were no cookies, and there was no money to pay the doctor. The children were very sad. Later they had a bright idea, that is, to bake cookies from the old woman’s recipe(食谱). So the children started a cookie store. Soon they had a very good cookie business, with money to pay the doctor as well as to put in the bank. After the old woman got well, she was asked to be the manager of the store, selling special cookies for all the holidays of the year. After the old woman died, the children, now grown up, kept the cookie business alive in her name. Maybe life is like a Christmas cookie. The more you share it with your friends, the more you are likely to enjoy it.21. What did the old woman like to do?A. Buy cookies.B. Bake cookies.C. Sell cookies.D. Eat cookies.22. But sometimes it’s not bad to make mistakes, and here is why.First of all, mistakes are a c lear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things, because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try new things, how can you improve? How can you create? The simple answer is, “You can’t.” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.Another good thing about mistake is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this : Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was askedhad learned 10,000 things that didn’t work. Finally, when you make a mistake, you are much closer to your goal. Why? Because youhave said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to your goal. But it doesn’t mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes. As the old saying goes, “ If you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And succeed.26.When you are trying new things, _______ .A. you are careful. B.you’re ki nd.C.You’re growing. D.you know nothing.27. After he failed 10,000 times, Edison ________ .A. gave up his experiment B.invented the light bulb.C. set up a new laboratory D.made 10,000 new things.28. The underline word “claimed” probably mea ns ________ .A. said B.shouted C.required D.cried29. How can you keep away from unnecessary mistakes?A.Correct them when you try new things.B.Do what you should do.C.Think them over when you try new things.D.Say what you should say.30. What’s the main idea of the passage?A. It’s not bad to make mistakes sometimes.B.When to correct mistakes.C.It’s not good to make mistake sometimes.D.How to correct mistakes.
