AIf you are a college student looking for a program or taking a gap year to decide what to do next in life, then you should definitely consider volunteering abroad. We have made the selection process easier for college students! Take a look at these volunteer projects one can choose.Wildlife Conservation ProjectsThey are meant for college students who are looking forward to spending time with animals. However, before starting the projects, college students have to attend an online meeting to see if they are suitable for the job, during which they need to answer some questions. Volunteers will get an opportunity to be part of a team working to make the environment better for some animals, as well as protecting them from danger.Short-term Volunteer Programs (2-week Specials)They are perfect for those who are looking for spring break programs or summer break programs. The “2-week Special Volunteer Programs” are made for college students who have less time to contribute but want to travel and volunteer abroad. Most of the programs are located in beautiful places and are extremely affordable.Summer Volunteer and Travel Programs (3- 4-week Specials)If you think you can make your vacation a little longer, then go for the Summer Volunteer and Travel Programs. These programs are designed in an amazing manner. Volunteers will go to the destinations (目的地), live like the locals, do some adventure sports, learn a new language and so on.Community Development ProjectsIt is said that there are about 1 billion people who are short of housing facilities (住房设施). It is for this that Community Development Projects hold strong importance in our society. Volunteers are needed to make some real changes. Volunteers will be working to build or repair houses, school premises (校舍), and shelter homes. They help to achieve the goal of making society better.1. What should college students do before they join the Wildlife Conservation Projects?A. Take a language test.B. Have an online interview.C. Learn some animals’ habits.D. Prepare some foods for animals.2. Which of the following may best suit a college student who doesn’t have much time or money?A. Wildlife Conservation Projects.B. Short-term Volunteer Programs.C. Community Development Projects.D. Summer Volunteer and Travel Programs.3. What are volunteers required to do in the Community Development Projects?A. Take on some building work.B. Help some families do housework.C. Teach some children to learn a new language.D. Buy some basic necessities of life for local people.BWe have met, but just not in person. I work in the bank and I usually do my work over the phone and computer. This lady is a borrower of my bank, one of the people I serve. We have had several conversations about her borrowings. She is neither a woman that is of my mother’s age, nor a grandmotherly type of client, because men or women of that age are always very loving and they remind me what I should do. This woman is of my age.We have never met in person. She lives in New Jersey and I live in California. Her borrowings turned out great, and I didn’t worry even a little bit. To be honest, I think I just worked normally to finish my service. But every couple of months, she would email me a little note, telling me how I made a difference to her life, and how thankful she was for what I had done. I never expected that.I have a busy and stressful job. Every day, I meet many people and I offer the same service to them.I also keep a working relationship, with many. No one has done that for me. I don’t think I have done something different or helped her much. She just used her time and the most shining part in her heart to send me emails. I saw the beauty inside her.Everyone can be tired and lonely right now. The same is true of the woman. Take a moment in your day to do one little nice thing for somebody, even if it’s for someone you do not know. You can make a little difference to their life and also to yours. It feds good to say I feel a little love today and that I find myself showing it to somebody else.4. What can we know about the author and the woman?A. The woman was bad at managing her money.B. They usually discussed their work face to face.C. The author got some useful advice from the woman.D. They knew each other through the banking business.5. How did the author probably consider the woman’s emails?A. Funny.B. Unnecessary.C. Surprising.D. Embarrassing.6. What did the author realize in Paragraph 3?A. He did something special for the woman’s borrowings.B. The woman was a sincere and thoughtful stranger.C. He was able and responsible in his work.D. The woman felt tired and lonely in life.7. What may the author advise us to do in the last paragraph?A. Be friendly to our workmates.B. Create a plan to be a better self.C. Take some time to think about life.D. Pass on kindness to those around us.CAs much as I love watching Olympic diving, I’ve never understood why athletes hurry off to the showers and then proceed to relax in a hot tub (热水浴池) after each dive. They’re already wet. They’re only in the pool for a handful of seconds, so it’s not like they need to get cleaned up. And doesn’t taking a shower serve the same purpose as sitting in a hot tub?Actually, that’s what Olympic divers usually do between dives as they know very well about the importance of warm-ups and cool-downs. So, what’s the actual reason? As it turns out, showers and hot tubs are used pretty interchangeably by the swimming pool. However, there is a need for both. First, let’s start with why divers need to take a shower between dives. It has to do with body temperature and keeping their muscles loose (放松的). As you can imagine, practicing dives in the pool, then having to keep your body warm in a shower, and then jumping off a 10-meter platform and into cold water couldn’t be comfortable for anyone.Going back and forth between these warm and cool temperatures can cause a divert muscles to tense or cramp up (痉挛), which can lead to injuries to the muscles. Showers allow an Olympic diver to recover and prevent that.In that way, showers and hot tubs serve the same purpose. A hot tub is generally used if you have a bit more time between dives and have already stretched. The shower walls on the pool deck can typically provide enough space for more divers at the same time, and they’re especially helpful for athletes who need to stretch or who only have a few minutes between dives. Just like Olympic swimmers depend on thick clothes to keep their muscles warm, Olympic divers rely on these methods to stay loose. If you ask me, it’s not a bad way to pass the time!8. What does the underlined word “proceed” in Paragraph 1 mean?A. Fail.B. Continue.C. Stop.D. Afford.9. Why do the athletes need showers after diving?A. To folly clean their body.B. To rest and wait for the results.C. To avoid possible muscle injuries.D. To stop themselves from catching a cold.10. What does the last paragraph suggest?A. The shower walls are designed for divers in the final round.B. Olympic swimmers need to stay warm using hot tubs.C. Athletes usually do some activities to pass the time.D. Hot tubs are as important as showers for divers.11. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text?A. To tell us the difference between diving and swimming.B. To explain some little-known knowledge about divers.C. To compare cold showers with the hot bath.D. To provide some diving advice for us.DFlying someone one-way from London to New York City produces a lot of climate-warming greenhouse gas. But there is a new way to cut the climate influence of flying. Most planes crossing the Atlantic Ocean follow one of several fixed paths that are widely spaced. “Instead of having these fixed tracks which keep the planes apart, airlines can fly much more flexible routes (灵活的路线),” says Cathie Wells. She is a PhD student in mathematics. The aviation industry knows it has a high carbon footprint (碳排放量). To reduce that footprint, some people share their ideas. For instance, experts could redesign planes. Or airlines could choose fuels (燃料)from renewable sources, such as plants. But it takes decades and many billions of dollars to design, test and fly new planes and try new fuels.Taking more flexible routes, in contrast, can cut costs and energy right away. “Reducing fuel use is a win-win solution,” says Irene Dedoussi, who works at Delft University of Technology. It allows the aviation industry to save money on fuels while reducing carbon footprints. “Even savings of just one or two percent are generally considered important. Using something so simple to cut fuel use by one sixth is huge,” she said. Before that can happen, however, Wells needs to make a few changes. The researchers of her team will have to work out the best flight paths that consider scheduling issues.National Air Traffic Services (NATS) provides air-traffic control for the United Kingdom. It invited Wells to describe her new findings. Just one week after her team’s new study was published, NATS said it would change its flight-paths system. For now, NATS will be working with airlines to allow them to choose routes that would best limit their fuel use.12. What is Cathie Wells’ way to cut the climate influence of flying?A. Making changes to flight paths.B. Changing the design of planes.C. Using environment-friendly fuels.D. Improving the pilots’ driving skills.13. What’s the problem with the ideas on reducing carbon footprints in Paragraph 2?A. They require dangerous experiments.B. They are not supported by the public.C. They take a lot of time and can be costly.D. They are unable to reduce carbon footprints to the lowest.14. What do we know about Wells5 suggestion?A. It brings better service to passengers.B. It is helpful in reducing traffic jams.C. It has little influence on the aviation industry.D. It has big advantages but needs careful consideration.15. What does the author mainly talk about in the text?A. A solution to traffic problems.B. The growing interest in the study of planes.C. The influence of air travel on the environment.D. A new way to make future air travel greener.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Ⅰ阅读理解(2018·成都高三诊断性检测)Johannes Vermeer is such a quiet and introspective(内省的)artist that it took hundreds of years for anyone to notice he was a genius.A major Vermeer exhibition opens this month at the Louvre in Paris, whose permanent collection includes his great painting of a woman absorbed in close, visually demanding work, The Lacemaker (about 1669-1670). Like other paintings by Vermeer, this image represents modern culture. So attracted are today’s art lovers by Vermeer that it was thought shocking when a recent survey found that 82% of Americans can’t name who painted Girl w ith a Pearl Earring. Well, maybe they don’t go to the movies much.It is not true to say he was forgotten—that would suggest he was famous in his lifetime. He was not. Vermeer was one more painter among the many who worked for money in the Dutch Republic in the 17th century. He was not a star like Rembrandt. He obviously took himself and his art seriously. His self-referential painting The Art of Painting proves that. Even though he worked all his life in Delft, he painted only 35 known works and left his family poor when he died in 1675 at the age of 43.It is fitting that Paris is celebrating Vermeer, because it was the French avantgarde(先锋派) in the 19th century who saved him from being completely forgotten. Compare his painting Woman in Blue Reading a Letter or The Little Street with, say, Edouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère(1882)or Camille Pissarro’s The Boule v ard Montmartre at Night(1897) and it is easy to see why the art of Vermeer found its natural audience in Parisian Bohemia. All these artists are likely to have known about and admired Vermeer due to the efforts of the critic ThoréBürger, a veteran of the 1848 Revolution.Vermeer’s rediscovery is part of the history of modern French art. Vermeer is not only a great artist. He is a great modern artist.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了著名画家Johannes Vermeer的生平和他的艺术特点。

Trying to help injured, displaced or sick creatures can be heartbreaking; survival is never certain. However, when it works, it is simply beautiful.I got a rescue call from a woman in Muttontown. She had found a young owl(猫头鹰) on the ground. When I arrived, I saw a 2-to 3-week-old owl. It had already been placed in a carrier for safety.I examined the chick(雏鸟) and it seemed fine. If I could locate the nest, I might have been able to put it back, but no luck. My next work was to construct a nest and anchor it in a tree. The homeowner was very helpful. A wire basket was found. I put some pine branches into the basket to make this nest safe and comfortable. I placed the chick in the nest, and it quickly calmed down. Now all that was needed were the parents, but they were absent. I gave the homeowner a recording of the hunger screams of owl chicks. These advertise the presence of chicks to adults; they might also encourage our chick to start calling as well. I gave the owner as much information as possible and headed home to see what news the night might bring.A nervous night to be sure, but sometimes the spirits of nature smile on us all! The homeowner called to say that the parents had responded to the recordings. I drove over and saw the chick in the nest looking healthy and active. The parents had done their duty and would probably continue to do so.1.What is unavoidable in the author’s rescue work according to paragraph 1?A.Efforts made in vain.B.Getting injured in his work.C.Feeling uncertain about his future.D.Creatures forced out of their homes.2.Why was the author called to Muttontown?A.To rescue a woman.B.To take care of a woman.C.To look at a baby owl.D.To cure a young owl.3.What made the chick calm down?A.A new nest.B.Some food.C.A recording.D.Its parents.4.How would the author feel about the outcome of the event?A.It's unexpected.B.It's beautiful.C.It's humorous.D.It's discouraging.17、An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters. It may cause great damage. So it is wise to learn some simple safety tips to protect yourself or your family members.Fragile items like those made of glass are easily broken and should usually be placed on a lower surface, near the ground instead of placing them in the cupboards higher up. Never place them near your bed, sofas and other furniture where you would be sitting or lying down. So when there is a strong movement, these pieces will fall on the floor directly and not on you. There is a strong chance of short circuits and fire during an earthquake. Make sure you turn off electrical connections and gas immediately when an earthquake happens.During an earthquake, lie beneath an object that is not easily damaged. Do not go near objects that could directly fall on you. Never use the elevator to go down. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries happen when people inside buildings try to go out. Use the staircases (楼梯) at all times. If you are outdoors, do not take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop your car and stay in a safe place. Do not park your car under a tree or any tall object. If trapped in ruins, cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing. Tap on a pipe or the wall so rescuers can find you. Use a whistle (哨子)if one is available. Never shout for help. Shouting can cause you to breathe in dangerous amounts of dust. Do not light a match because you may burn yourself.1.The purpose of the passage is to tell readers .A.the damage caused by earthquakesB.the rescue work after earthquakesC.how to prevent earthquakesD.what to do about earthquakes2.The underlined word "Fragile" in Paragraph 2 probably means .A.easily foundB.easily brokenC.expensiveD.heavy3.To reduce the injury from the earthquake, items made of glass should be put .A.in the cupboardsB.on a lower surfaceC.in the bedroomD.in a place where children can't reach them4.During the earthquake, people are advised to .A.go out of the building at onceB.shout for helpC.take shelter under a treeD.turn off electricity and gas immediately18、假定英语课上老师要求同桌之间交换修改作文,请你修改你同桌写的以下作文。

(surprise)16、Many people go to school for an education. They learn languages, history, geography, physics, chemistry and mathematics. Others go to school to learn a skill so that they can make a living. School education is very important and useful. Yetno one can learn everything from school. A teacher, no matter how much he knows, cannot teach his students everything they want to know. The teacher's job is to show his students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So much more is to be learned outside school by the students themselves. It is always more important to study by oneself than to memorize some facts or a formula(公式). It is actually quite easy to learn a certain fact in history or a formula in mathematics. But it is very difficult to use a formula in working out a math problem. Great scientists, such as Einstein, Newton and Galileo didn't get everything from school. But they were all so successful. They invented so many things for mankind. The reason for their success is that they worked hard all their lives, wasting not a single moment. They would ask many questions as they read and they did thousands of experiments .Above all, they knew how to use their brains.1. People go to school to .A. learn several subjectsB. get an educationC. make a livingD. learn a skill2. According to the passage, the most important thing a teacher should do is.A. to teach his students everything he knowsB. to teach the students how to study by themselvesC. to teach the students how to thinkD. to know everything3. To work out a math problem, you need to know .A. the method to work it outB. how to memorize some factsC. only some factsD. only a certain formula4. Why were many scientists so successful?A. They knew how to learn.B. They received a good education.C. They were very clever.D. They learned lots of facts and formulas.17、Around the world, many people come together on 31st December to celebrate the coming of the New Year. In Scotland, this is a very important occasion, which is called "Hogmanay (除夕)". For some time, the celebration was more popular in Scotland than Christmas. From early childhood, I remember large family gatherings on New Year’s Eve where everyone would come together to "bring in the bells". It, ano ther common phrase in Scotland, refers to the ten-second countdown (倒计时) to midnight when bells chime all over Scotland, meaning the beginning of the New Year. Most towns in Scotland have local celebrations with fireworks and family gatherings, but in the bigger Scottish cities, other events take place. The best-known event for Hogmanay is the Edinburgh Street Party. Every year, Edinburgh hosts a delightful fireworks display outside of the castle and this is broadcast on TV for those watching the celebration from their homes. This year, I decided to stay in my home city, Glasgow. My friend’s 21st birthday was on Hogmanay, so we went out to a party in Glasgow which took place in a bar. We had a lovely night filled with birthday cake, cocktails and dancing, and we all sang Auld Lang Syne at midnight. Despite being a Scottish song, Auld Lang Syne is sung internationally on January 1st. There is a very friendly atmosphere in Glasgow, with everyone hugging each other and wishing each other a Happy New Year!On New Year’s Day in Scotland, it is traditional to have a meal with your family. My family always eat a steak pie with vegetables and we have a cake with pudding, but this tradition varies from family to family. Another tradition I have to mention is the first-footing, a tradition that the first person to enter the home after Hogmanay has to bring something with him. Otherwise it brings bad luck for the coming year. I like this tradition, as people are usually very generous with their first-foot’s gifts. This year, our house received a bottle of wine and homemade bread.1. What does the author intend to tell us in the passage?A. How New Year is celebrated in Scotland.B. Different New Year's Eve in Scotland.C. What people do during the New Year.D. The real meaning of Hogmanay in Scotland.2. What does the underlined word "chime" mean in the passage?A. Ring.B. Thunder.C. Grow.D. Exist.3. Why did the author decide to stay in his home city?A. Because Glasgow is very far away from Scotland.B. Because staying with the family is a tradition in Scotland.C. Because his friend's birthday came on the New Year's Eve.D. Because in Glasgow people celebrate the New Year’s Eve differently.4. First, by looking at our own country
from outside, we can best see the strong points and weak points of our nation and therefore broaden our minds. Second, while studying in a foreign country,we can travel widely, visiting famous scenic spots and making friends with the local people。 Third, we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in that language may be improved quickly。 But the most important is to learn advanced (先进的)science and technology. For all these advantages,it is really worthwhile to go abroad for education. However, as everything has two sides, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign university。 The most serious problem is the language barrier (障碍)。 Most of the students who are ready to go abroad do not prepare themselves well for the new language environment. As a result, on arriving there, they will find it difficult to understand what the instructors are saying in class。 Besides, for not knowing about the customs and way of life of the local people, they may run into trouble in dealing with various situations. Therefore, misunderstandings often arise。 Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country, so most students have to find part—time jobs in order to help support themselves。 Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and some students may even fail in their courses and learn little。 Therefore, given an opportunity to attend a school abroad, one must consider the factors carefully before making up his mind。 On the one hand, it is a good thing to go and study abroad. But on the other hand, one must not neglect (忽视)the disadvantages。 1。 According to the passage, the following are all advantages of studying abroad EXCEPT 。 2019-2020学年高一英语外研版必修一课时练习:Module 4 Word版含答案 A。 having more chances to get good jobs
