The population of the world continues to increase, but in some areas the population is falling. This is true in Europe and especially in Eastern Europe. In Russia, the population is going down by about 100 people EVERY HOUR! Russia's population could fall by ONE THIRD by the year 2050! And in Poland (波兰) the population is also going down because people are leaving to work in other countries. One of the main reasons is a change of lifestyle. All over Europe people, especially educated women, have a different attitude(态度) to children than their parents. "I have one child and she is enough for me," said Galina Tereschkova, a doctor from Moscow. "My husband and I both work full—time. We can't imagine having more than one child." Many women decide to have children later in life or not to have children at all. "I don't want to have any children until I have worked for at least 10 years," said 19-year-old student Hana Markova from Prague. Her opinion is typical of 18~24 year old women everywhere in Europe. In Poland, the population is going down for a different reason. A lot of people, usually aged between 20 and 30, are leaving the country to work abroad. Poland joined the European Union in 2005 and since then more than half a million people have moved to Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy. Even so, the population of those four countries and many other countries in West Europe is also going down. Many governments are now encouraging people to have larger families. In France, women now receive nearly $1,000 a month for a year if they have a third child. Austrian women receive $700 a month for three years when they have their first child.(1)Where in the world is the population getting smaller?(2)How many children does Galina Tereschkova want to have?(3)What does Hana Markova want to do before she has children?(4)Why is the population in Poland going down?(5)How does the French government encourage people to have larger families now?【答案】(1)In Europe and especially in Eastern Europe.(2)One.(3)She wants to work for at least 10 years.(4)Because a lot of people, usually aged between 20 and 30, are leaving Poland to work abroad./ The change of lifestyle.(5)By giving women nearly $1000 a month for a year if they have a third child.2.完成表格。

初中英语英语阅读理解汇编解题技巧讲解及练习题(含答案)及解析一、中考英语阅读理解汇编1.阅读理解Stonehenge means "hanging stones". They stood in a circle, with 30 more stones lying on topto form a ring of rocks. There was also an inner circle built with similar stones. The stones set upin a trilithon(巨石牌坊) pattern.A trilithon is made of two stone pillars with a stab of rock laid across the top. The stones weighup to 20 tons each. People wonder how the huge rocks were placed that way.Historians agree that Stonehenge was built in three different stages. The first stage took place about 5, 000 years ago. At that time, a large circular earth wall was made. Historians believe thewall was dug and cut with tools made form anglers(鹿角)of red deer. The earth wall was about 98m in diameter(直径) a 5-meter-tall stone was placed near the center. Then, they hadto transport the large blue stones (up to 4 tons) 384 kilometers to Stonehenge. Experts thinkthey might be moved across ice and snow. The ground in winter in this area is usually full of iceand snow, making it easier to move the rocks. The next task was to stand the stones up. The most difficult task was putting the top stones in place. Each one of these tasks took a lot of planningand a lot of strength, but the workers of Stonehenge were excellent builders. Why was the monument built? Some scientists think it's a burial ground. There are over 400 graves (burial sits) nearby. A man was buried with two gold earrings which are the oldest goldever found in Britain (dated to 2470 BC). Others think Stonehenge was built by early astronomers. Scientists believe that when a person stands in the center of the monument, the changing of seasons can be seen. Certain stones mark the location of the rising and setting moonin midwinter. Other stones mark the rising and setting sun in midsummer. The ancient peopleheld religious ceremonies on these days. These ceremonies probably asked the gods to bringgood weather for crops and to protect the people from bad weather.Stonehenge is an engineering success. Thousands of years later, it still stands. As a calendar, Stonehenge is very accurate. It shows that early people had a deep understanding of the movements to the sun and the moon. They didn't have machines or computers, but Stonehenge shows people could do many things using only their muscles and their brains.(1)he first building stage of Stonehenge was ________.A. to dig and cut the earth wallB. to move the blue stones across the iceC. to stand the stones upD. to put the top stones in place(2)Which evidence(证据) is given to support the idea that Stonehenge was a burial ground?A.

A.How did the judge solve the student’s problem?B.(The judge solved the problem) By making the restaurant owner hear the sound of thefalling coins.2) 用where/when提问,要以介词in/ on/ at等开头A.Where did the student live?B.In a small room near a restaurantA When did Eppie Lederer begin to write an advice column for the Chicago Sun Times?B In 1955. (or: After she won a contest.)3)用how many提问,要注意数字前是否有限定词more than/ at least/about等。

A How many readers do the two columns have?B Nearly 200 million readers (around the world).4)用why提问,要以because(of) 开头回答, 或者以To do开头回答。

A Why did the student feel afraid?B Because the judge said he was wrong / he had only a few coins/ he had no money.A.Why did Lederer ask her readers to write letters to The U.S. Congress?B. To make them pass the law.5)用whom提问,要以介词with/by等回答。

Each morning he was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his holy(圣书) book. One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! 1 try to read the holy book just like you but 1 don't understand it, and what 1 do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the book do?"The grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, "Take, this coal basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water."The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home, Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water, I want a basket of water. You're just not trying hard enough," and Grandpa went out of the door to watch the boy if he would do. The boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into the river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather, the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, "See Grandpa, it's useless.""So you think it is useless." The old man said, "Look at thebasket." The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realizedthat the basket was different. It had been changed from a dirty oldcoal basket and was now clean, inside and outside. So, that's what happens when you read the book. Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题):26 December,2004Yesterday we arrived in Phuket, an island in Thailand, and started the first beach Christmas holiday in my life.We left early this morning and rode elephants through the beautiful Thai jungle. At 3:00pm we started to drive back to the hotel. We realized that something was wrong. The first thing we noticed was the wail (尖啸声) of police and ambulance sirens. As we drove closer to the beach, more and more people passed us on the road, in cars, on bicycles and on foot. They all looked terrified and some were carrying many things. We stopped at a roadside restaurant where people were standing around a TV. As we climbed out of our car, we were shocked to see that several of the women and even some of the men were crying. Thenwe turned to the screen and watched in horror as the morning's events were reported.I didn't know what a tsunami (海啸)was. The news said that the earthquake was one of the largest that had been recorded. The earthquake lasted for eight minutes. Somehow, this earthquake had caused huge waves to roll across the Indian Ocean and hit Thailand. The huge waves destroyed hotels, cars, and everything else they met.The waves had not only hit Thailand, but also Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia and other countries around the Indian Ocean, all the way to Somalia in Africa, almost 5,000 kilometres away. The next few hours were crazy. Dad found out that our hotel was still standing so we made our way there. The first thing we did was to phone our family in the UK to let them know we were safe. Uncle Ted then told us more about what had happened from what he had learnt on the news.93.When did the writer's family arrive in Phuket?94.How did they go through the jungle? They went through the jungle___________________ .B)93. Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题):Half a year before graduating from college, my son Kain began to look for a job and soon got an interview. There were only three people for the final interview. The interview was very simple, during which the interviewer only chatted with them for a while. The interviewer said to them, "All of you are very good. Please go home and wait for our response. Three days later, Kain received a message from the company saying that he had not been offered a job. He felt deeply disappointed. But later in the evening he told me that he had received another message saying that he had been employed (雇佣) by the company.Actually the first message sent to Kain was also part of the test in the interview. The three men received the same message, but only my son's reply satisfied the company, so he was given the job. I asked Kain, "How did all of you reply?" He said, "One did not reply; the other said'goodbye', and I said' thank you'."Only then did I know that my son's job came in that way. It also makes me know when you feel disappointed, do not forget to say "thank you" to the one who disappoints you. Answer the question(根据短文内容回答下列问题):(14分)Quite a few people believe that the phases of the moon(月相)affect the behavior of human and other creatures. That is known as the lunar effect(月相效应). The lunar effect has been around for many centuries. The power of the moon is often used to explain a wide range of events, such as human insanity(精神错乱), and increases in violent crimes(暴力犯罪)and traffic accidents. According to some traditions, for example, before the coming of modern techniques, surgeons(外科医生)would refuse to operate on the full moon nights because of the increased risk of death of the patient through blood loss. The idea behind the lunar effect has even found its way into the news. For example, it has been said that the full moon may have influenced voters’(选民)behavior in the 2000 U.S. presidential election(总统大选).Does the moon affect our behavior at all? Some people say it does. They say the moon causes the tides, so surely that the moon has an effect on people and we ourselves are full of the water, too. But scientists point out that the moon only affects unrestrained(不受控制的)waters, such as oceans. The water in our bodies isn’t even comparable(可比较). And over fifty years of researchhas shown nothing to prove the existence(存在)of a causative(引起联系的)link between the moon and areas such as mental illness, birth rates, crime, or accidents. There is an explanation for why people link the full moon to unusual human behavior. The reason is that people have selective memories(选择性记忆). When something unusual happens and there is a full moon, people might notice the moon and think it is to be blamed.99. What do quite a few people believe?100. What is used to explain wide range of events?101. Why would surgeons refuse to operate on the full moon nights?102.
