(I) Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game. Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test --- unless the person cheats again. Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too. Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea. If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school. A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions(解决办法) together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating. 1.The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, _______. A.it is unfair to other people B.it does harm to their heath C.teachers should punish them D.teachers shouldn’t stop them at once 2.Some students like cheating mainly because_________. A.the material in the test is very difficult B.they want to do better than the others C.cheating can make hard things seem very easy D.they have little time to study their lessons 3.The fourth paragraph mainly tells us______. A.cheating isn’t a good idea B.why kids cheat in the test C.some kids can’t pass the test without cheating D.some kids don’t spend the time studying 4.We can learn from the passage______. A.cheaters are often thought highly of B.people show no respect for those who cheat C.parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble D.kids cheat in the test because of swim practice 5.In the passage those cheaters are advised to_______. A.spend more time on school than on sports B.find good solutions instead of cheating C.try hard to be intelligent rather than lazy D.ask their classmates for good methods of study (II) If you travel by air across the center of Africa or South America, you fly over forests for thousands of kilometers. These great forests are the oceans of trees. They are full of thousands and thousands of different kinds of plants and animal. However, the world forests are getting smaller all the time. We are cutting down the trees because we need wood, and we need more farmland. Some people say that there will not be any forests like these in 20 or 30 years. What will happen if they disappear? If we cut down our forests, a lot of plants and animals will disappear from the world. In a lot of places the new farmland will soon look like the old deserts. Crops will not grow there. It will not rain very often, and the weather will get very hot. Perhaps the climate of the world will change. This will be dangerous for everyone in the world. That is why we must take care of forests. 1. The passage mainly tells us about _________. A. the importance of taking care of our forests B. the result of cutting down the trees C. the world of great forests D. the reasons for forming the deserts 2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. Africa and South America are the oceans of trees. B. Forests are homes for different kinds of animals. C. Forests are usually several square kilometers large. D. Different plants can’t be found in the same forest. 3. The need for more wood and more land results in ________. A. the change of the world climate B. the disappearance of many plants and animals C. more desert and less farmland D. all of the above 4. What will happen in 20 or 30 years in some people’s view? A. We’ll have more and great forests. B. We’ll have enough land to support our people. C. We’ll have no forests like those in the center of Africa. D. We’ll have enough wood to do some cooking. 5. The writer thinks ________. A. it necessary for people to cut down the forests B. it necessary for people to protect the forests C. it impossible for people to take care of the world D. it important for everyone to keep animals (III) Shopping is not as simple as you may think! There are all sorts of tricks at play each time we reach out for that particular brand of product on the shelf. Colouring, for example, varies according to what the producers are trying to sell. Health foods are packaged in greens, yellows or browns because we think of these as healthy colours. Ice cream packets are often blue and expensive goods, like chocolates, are gold or silver.

(题目序号仿新高考I卷阅读理解D篇)Passage 1(2023秋·辽宁沈阳高三校联考期末)What may well be the oldest metal coins in the world have been identified at an ancient abandoned city known as Guanzhuang in China. Like many Bronze Age(青铜时代)coins from the region, they were cast in the shape of spades(铲)with finely carved handles. These ancient coins existed during an in-between period between barter(以物易物)and money, when coins were a novel concept, but everybody knew that agricultural tools were valuable.Reading about this incredible discovery, I kept thinking about the way modern people represent computer networks by describing machines as having “addresses”, like a house. We also talk about one computer using a “port” to send information to another computer, as if the data were a floating boat with destination. It’s as if we are in the Bronze Age of information technology, grasping desperately for real-world reference to transform our civilization. Now consider what happened to spade coins. Over centuries. metalworkers made these coins into moreabstract shapes. Some became almost human figures. Others’ handles were reduced to small half-circles. As spade coins grew more abstract. people carved them with number values and the locations where they were made. They became more like modern coins, flat and covered in writing. Looking at one of these later pieces, you would have no idea that they were once intended to look like a spade. This makes me wonder if we will develop an entirely new set of symbols that allow us to interact with our digital information more smoothly.Taking spade coins as our guide, we can guess that far-future computer networks will no longer contain any recognizable references to houses. But they still might bring some of the ideas we associate with home to our mind. In fact, computer networks — if they still exist at all — are likely to be almost the indispensable part of our houses and cities, their sensors inset(嵌入)with walls and roads. Our network addresses might actually be the same as our street addresses. If climate change leads to floods, our mobile devices might look more like boats than phones, assisting us to land.My point is that the metaphors(比喻)of the information age aren’t random. Mobile devices do offer us comfort after a long day at work. In some sense, our desire to settle on the shores of data lakes could change the way we understand home, as well as how we build computers. So as we cast our minds forward, we have to think about what new abstractions will go along with our information technology. Perhaps the one thing we count on is that humans will still appreciate the comforts of home.32.Why were many Bronze Age coins made into the shape of a spade?A. These coins also served as agricultural tools.B. This stylish design made the coins valuable.C. A lot of emphasis was put on agriculture.D. The handles made the coins easily exchanged.33.Why does the author relate computers to spade coins?A. To show they both used to be new concepts when first invented.B. To highlight their same importance in our civilizational transformation.C. To suggest computers will experience dramatic changes as coins did.D. To explain abstract digital worlds are different from concrete coins.34.What does the underlined word “indispensable” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?A. Flexible.B. Wasteful.C. Essential.D. Alternative.35.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A. How Agriculture Loses to Digital IndustryB. What Coins and Computers Bring UsC. What Bronze Age and Information Age Have In CommonD. What Ancient Money Tells Us About the Future Digital WorldPassage 2(2023秋·天津市天津中学高三期末)When I was young, a friend and I came up with a “big” plan to make reading easy. The idea was to boil down great books to a sentence each. “Moby-Dick” by American writer HermanMelville, for instance, was reduced to: “A whale of a tale about the one that got away.” As it turned out, the joke was on us. How could a single sentence convey the essence(精髓)of a masterpiece with over five hundred pages?Blinkist, a website and an app, now summarizes nonfiction titles in the form of quick takes labeled “blinks.” The end result is more than one sentence, but not by much. Sarah Bakewell’s “At the Existentialist Café” is broken into 11 screens of information; Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” fills 13.Blinkist has been around since 2012. It calls its summaries “15-minute discoveries” to indicate how long it takes to read a Blinkist summary. “Almost none of us,” the editors assure us, “have the time to read everything we’d like to read.” Well, yes, of course, “So many books, so little time,” declares a poster I once bought at a book market. But I judge the quality of someone’s library by the books he or she has yet to read. That’s because a book is something we ought to live with, rather than speed through and categorize. It offers an experience as real as any other. The point of reading a book is not accumulating information, or at least not that alone. The most essential aspect is the communication between writer and reader. The idea behind Blinkist, however, is the opposite: Reading can be, should be, measured by the efficient uptake(吸收)of key ideas. No, no, no. What’s best about reading books is its inefficiency. When reading a book, we need to dive in, let it take over us, demand something of us, teach us what it can. Blinkist is instead a service that changes books for people who don’t, in fact, want to read. A 15-minute summary misses the point of reading; speed-reading with the app isn’t reading at all.32.What does the underlined part “the joke was on us” in Paragraph 1 mean?A. We were actually joking.B. We were laughed at by others.C. We were underestimating ourselves.D. We were just embarrassing ourselves.33.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A. What Blinkist is.B. Why Blinkist is popular.C. How to use Blinkist.D. Where you can use Blinkist.34.What is mentioned as a problem about reading in paragraph 3?A. There are few new books of quality.B. Many books are hard to understand.C. People do not have enough time to read.D. People do not like reading as much as before.35.What is an ideal pattern of reading according to the author?A. Obtaining key ideas efficiently.B. Further confirming our beliefs.C. Accumulating in formation quickly.D. Deeply involving ourselves in books.Passage 3(2023春·河北高三联考)Even though people have been paralyzed(瘫痪的)playing sports like rugby and football, extreme sports take the whole ordeal(磨难)to the next level. Sports like downhill cycling are very dangerous because one would be going downhill, over rocky or dirt zone, through forests, even at potentially deadly speeds. A slip up could be your downfall.Nobody who gets into extreme sports goes with the desire to do harm to themselves. With that, athletes train for years and years before they attempt anything extreme. To most people, extreme sports are extreme simply because they take more skill than what an average person has. An athlete with skill and training makes an extremething become a daily routine. That does not wipe out the danger, but it greatly reduces it.Even when there is a lot of skill involved, things might not go the athlete’s way, not at all. Luck and circumstances have a lot to do with how things develop, whether above 8000 meters or in a wood, going downhill. In some places, crossing the street is an extreme sport, considering how wild traffic can get. Some view parkour—the sports of running, jumping and climbing under, around and through buildings — as an extreme sport, while it is more of a life philosophy, where the athlete does not have to do anything remotely dangerous. Free soloing, which means climbing a rock or ice face without safety gear, is absolutely deadly, where one slip means almost certain death, depending on the height, of course. Skateboarding is relatively safe, but if you constantly find ridiculous places to practice on, like the fence of a bridge, then things can get very complicated. The extreme part depends on the athlete. To summarize, yes, extreme sports are dangerous, but the danger depends on the athlete, their choice of sport, direction in which they take it, as well as the circumstances. Some things are out of our reach of control, while others we can influence through exercise and healthier risk choices.32.Why is downhill cycling mentioned in Paragraph 1?A. To call for attention to extreme sports.B. To introduce the origin of extreme sports.C. To illustrate the danger of extreme sports.D. To show the complexity of the extreme sports.33.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about regarding extreme sports?A. Extreme sports differ from one another.B. Skill matters a lot in maintaining safety.C. Athlete’s luck is a key factor that influences safety.D. Extreme sports are more dangerous than regular sports.34.Which would best describe the author’s attitude towards the danger of extreme sports?A. Doubtful.B. Objective.C. Intolerant.D. Uninterested.35.Which of the following is the best title of the text?A. Do Extreme Sports Test Your Courage?B. Why Should Extreme Sports Be Banned?C. Why Do We Love Extreme Sports so Much?D. Are Extreme Sports Really That Dangerous?Passage 4(2023·福建漳州统考三模)This month, the Internet was flooded with wonderful digital art portraits, thanks to the work of the latest artificial intelligence-assisted application to go viral: Lensa. Users uploaded their photographs to the App and then—for a small fee—it used AI to transform their profile pictures into, say, a magical warrior princess version of themselves, in no time at all. This year has seen a breakthrough for AI-driven image generators, which are now better than ever in quality, speed and affordability. If that sounds great to you, you might not be one of the millions of humans whose livelihoods depend on being able to exchange those skills for money. Some artists predicted that a computer would recreate the aura of a masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci in the near future. As long as there are enough data for the AI to train itself, it can copy numerous masterpieces just in several minutes. It seems unavoidable that a large number of artists would lose their jobs.“I see it less as a threat and more of an opportunity,” the UK-based illustrator Michelle Thompson said, adding, “Like everything else, there will always be artists who can use the tools better.”These tools are only as good as the data sets they are trained on. Human imagination, on the other hand, has no limit. For Dryhurst, an artist from Germany, AI models “could attempt to make a pale version of something we did years ago”, but that “doesn’t account for what we might do next”.The kind of artificial intelligence we might imagine replacing artists—an entirely autonomous creative robot—does not yet exist, but it is coming. And as AI becomes more universal, artists, illustrators and designerswill ultimately be set apart not by if, but by how, they use the technology.32.Why does the author mention Lensa in Paragraph 1?A. To recommend the new App.B. To inform latest news.C. To lead in the AI topic.D. To introduce its new function.33.What is Michelle Thompson’s attitude towards AI?A. Concerned.B. Favorable.C. Unclear.D. Critical.34.What might be a weakness of AI in creating art works?A. Accuracy.B. Diversity.C. Creativity.D. Efficiency.35.Which can be the best title for the text?A. Is AI coming into our daily life?B. Can AI copy masterpieces of great artists?C. Shall we welcome new AI technology?D. Will AI replace artists in the future?Passage 5(2023·福建福州统考二模)In August, Jason M. Allen’s piece “Theatre D’opéra Spatial”-which he created with Al image generator Midjourney -won first place in the emerging artist division’s “digital arts photography” category at the Colorado State Fair Fine Arts Competition. The definition for the category states that digital art refers to works that use “digital technology as part of the creative process”.Allen’s award-winning image has led to debates about what, exactly, it means to be an artist and whether AI can truly make art. “It felt bad for the exact same reason we don’t let robots participate in the Olympics, “ one Twitter user wrote. ”This is the literal definition of ‘pressed a few buttons to make a digital art piece’, “ another tweeted.Yet while Allen didn’t use a paintbrush, there was plenty of work involved, he said. First, he played around with phrasing that led Midjourney to generate images of women in elegant dresses and space helmets, in an attempt to mix Victorian-style costuming with space themes. Over time, with many slight changes to his written prompt(提示符), he created 900 different versions of what led to his final image. Then he improved its resolution through Gigapixel AI and finally had the images printed.Allen is glad the debate over whether AI can be used to make art is attracting so much attention. “Rather than hating on the technology, we need to recognize that it’s a powerful tool and use it for good so we can all moveforward, ” Allen said.Cal Duran, one of the judges for the competition, said that while Allen’s piece included a mention of AI, he didn’t realize that when judging it. Still, he sticks by his decision to award it first place. “I think the AI technology may give more opportunities to people who may not find themselves artists in the conventional way, ” he said.32.Why has Jason’s work led to debates?A. It was a copy of a photograph.B. He challenged the older artists.C. It was created with the help of AI.D. He broke the rule of the competition.33.What can best describe Allen’s creating process?A. Cooperative.B. Energy-consuming.C. Straightforward.D. Imagination-lacking.34.What can we learn about AI from the last paragraph?A. It is a double-edged sword.B. It attracts conventional artists.C. It strikes art judges as no surprise.D. It may open a new world to artists.35.What is the text mainly about?A. A trend to be AI artists.B. An AI-generated art contest.C. Responses to a winning AI artwork.D. Curiosity about an image generator.Passage 6(2023·湖北武汉高三统考)It’s no surprise that Jennifer Senior’s insightful magazine cover story “I love My Children, I Hate My Life” is arousing much chatter — nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that bringing up a child is not a completely fulfilling, life-enriching experience. Rather than concluding that children make parents either happy or miserable, Senior suggests we need to redefine happiness: instead of thinking of it as something that can be measured by moment-to-moment joy, we should consider being happy as a past-tense condition. Even though the day-to-day experience of raising kids can be extremely hard, Senior writes that “the very things that in the moment damage our moods can later be sources of intense content and delight.”The magazine cover showing an attractive mother holding a cute baby is hardly the only Madonna-and-child image on newsstands this week. There are also stories about newly adoptive—and newly single-mom Sandra Bullock, as well as the usual “Jennifer Aniston is pregnant” news. Practically every week features at least one celebrity mom, or mom-to-be, smiling on the newsstands. In a society that so persistently celebrates procreation(繁衍), is it any wonder that admitting you regret having children is equivalent to admitting you support kitten-killing? It doesn’t seem quite fair, then, to compare the regrets of parents to the regrets of the children. Unhappy parents rarely are encouraged to wonder if they shouldn’t have had kids, but unhappy childless folks are bothered with the message that children are the single most important thing in the world: obviously their misery must be a direct result of the wide-open baby-size holes in their lives.Of course, the image of parenthood that celebrity magazines like US Weekly and People present is hugely unrealistic, especially when the parents are single mothers like Bullock. According to several studies concluding that parents are less happy than childless couples, single parents are the least happy of all. No shock there, considering how much work it is to raise a kid without a partner to lean on; yet to hear celebrities tell it, raising akid on their “own”(read: with round-the-clock help)is a piece of cake.It is hard to imagine that many people are stupid enough to want children because it looks so fantastic — most adults understand that a baby is not a haircut. But it is interesting to wonder if the images we see every week of stress-free, happiness-enhancing parenthood aren’t in some small, subconscious way contributing to our own dissatisfactions with the actual experience, in the same way that a small part of us hoped getting a part of the way celebrities live might make us look just a little bit like them.32.Jennifer Senior suggests in her article that raising a child can bring _______.A. very temporary delightB. great enjoyment in progressC. happiness in one’s memoryD. concern over love and hatred33.Paragraph 2 is intended to show that _______.A. celebrity moms are a permanent source for gossip.B. single mothers with babies deserve greater attention.C. news about pregnant celebrities is entertaining.D. having children is highly valued by the public.34.According to the passage, those childless folks _______.A. are less likely to be satisfied with their lifeB. are largely ignored by the media.C. fail to fulfill their social responsibilities.D. are constantly exposed to criticism.35.Which of the following can be inferred from the last paragraph?A. Having children contributes little to the glamour of celebrity moms.B. Celebrity moms have influenced our attitude towards child raising.C. Having children intensifies our dissatisfaction with life.D. We sometimes neglect the happiness from child raising.Passage 7(2023春·广东省广东实验中学高三校考)Early fifth-century philosopher St. Augustine famously wrote that he knew what time was unless someone asked him. Albert Einstein added another wrinkle when he theorized that time varies depending on where you measure it. Today’s state-of-the-art atomic(原子的)clocks have proven Einstein right. Even advanced physics can’t decisively tell us what time is, because the answer depends on the question you’re asking.Forget about time as an absolute. What if, instead of considering time in terms of astronomy,we related time to ecology? What if we allowed environmental conditions to set the tempo(节奏)of human life? We’re increasingly aware of the fact that we can’t control Earth systems with engineering alone, and realizing that we need to moderate(调节)our actions if we hope to live in balance. What if our definition of time reflected that?Recently, I conceptualized a new approach to timekeeping that’s connected to circumstances on our planet, conditions that might change as a result of global warming. We’re now building a clock at the Anchorage Museum that reflects the total flow of several major Alaskan rivers, which are sensitive to local and global environmental changes. We’ve programmed it to match an atomic clock if the waterways continue to flow at their present rate. If the rivers run faster in the future on average, the clock will get ahead of standard time. If they run slower, you’ll seethe opposite effect. The clock registers both short-term irregularities and long-term trends in river dynamics. It’s a sort of observatory that reveals how the rivers are behaving from their own temporal frame(时间框架), and allows us to witness those changes on our smartwatches or phones. Anyone who opts to go on Alaska Mean River Time will live in harmony with the planet. Anyone who considers river time in relation to atomic time will encounter a major imbalance and may be motivated to counteract it by consuming less fuel or supporting greener policies.Even if this method of timekeeping is novel in its particulars, early agricultural societies also connected time to natural phenomena. In pre-Classical Greece, for instance, people“corrected”official calendars by shifting dates forward or backward to reflect the change of season. Temporal connection to the environment was vital to their survival. Likewise, river time and other timekeeping systems we’re developing may encourage environmental awareness. When St. Augustine admitted his inability to define time, he highlighted one of time’s most noticeable qualities: Time becomes meaningful only in a defined context. Any timekeeping system is valid, and each is as praiseworthy as its purpose.32.What is the main idea of Paragraph 1?A. Timekeeping is increasingly related to nature.B. Everyone can define time on their own terms.C. The qualities of time vary with how you measure it.D. Time is a major concern of philosophers and scientists.33.The author raises three questions in Paragraph 2 mainly to _______.A. present an assumptionB. evaluate an argumentC. highlight an experimentD. introduce an approach34.What can we learn from this passage?A. Those who do not go on river time will live an imbalanced life.B. New ways of measuring time can help to control Earth systems.C. Atomic time will get ahead of river time if the rivers run slower.D. Modern technology may help to shape the rivers’ temporal frame.35.What can we infer from this passage?A. It is crucial to improve the definition of time.B. A fixed frame will make time meaningless.C. We should live in harmony with nature.D. History is a mirror reflecting reality.Passage 8(2023·广东汕头统考一模)“Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. ” This is dedicated to my first-year self four years ago, who was addicted to getting good grades, and failed to seek the happiness found in everything else that college has to offer.Like some people, I grew up with a family that valued academics over all else, who gave you a little extra love when you were doing great in your classes, and took it away when you didn’t. As a result, my self-worth became tied to my academic success. As an international student, I sometimes felt our parents didn’t quite understand the heavy academic weight. There is a difference between trying to always better yourself for yourself, and simply putting too much on your plate until you burn out from attempting to live up to certain expectations. We should all strive to do the former, but unfortunately our mindsets have been always wired to follow the latter.I used to believe school killed the creative spirit inside all of us, but as I get older and further into my academic career, I find that it is we who make the choice to kill that creative spirit. I am definitely not saying that you should throw your GPA out of the window and go painting all day. However, we should all try to develop a long-sighted perspective on how we want to shape our lives. Take some classes on topics that you’re genuinely interested in learning about, not just passing. Join clubs or work on projects that resonate with you and push you beyond your boundaries. And most of all, accept the fact that failure and loss are sometimes inevitable in life.I promise you, when you look back at these four years, you will not remember the good grades or the bad grades, but you will hold in your memory the connections you made with people, the things that inspired you to create and the times you learned something special. And so I ask you now, what do you want to get out of college?32.Who is the author of the passage?A. A professor.B. A freshman.C. A parent.D. A graduate.33.What did the author’s parents stress most on his college life?A. Seeking happiness.B. Getting good grades.C. Building self-worth.D. Developing various interests.34.What is bettering ourselves for according to the author?A. To be a better self.B. To realize our dreams.C. To push our boundaries.D. Failures can be avoided with more efforts put in.D. School is to blame for killing students’ creativity.Passage 9(2023·山东济南统考一模)According to a study done by University of Michigan, shopping to reduce stress was 40 times more effective at giving people a sense of control and shoppers were three times less sad than those only looking at items.More than half of the 1,000 consumers surveyed by Credit Karma, head researcher of the study, said they have shopped to deal with feelings of stress or depression. About 48 percent of men and 31 percent of women who have stress shopping said they had purchased alcohol when stressed. About 82 percent of women spend on clothing compared to 52 percent of men. Women also lead shopping for jewellery, 42 percent, compared to 22 percent for men.In some sense, stress shopping can actually help you live a healthier life by making sure that your blood pressure is lowered. The survey found 82 percent had only positive feelings about their purchases and that the positive mood was long-lasting. However, stress shopping, for many, could grow into a drive that uses up money, causes conflict, and therefore adds great stress to life.Despite the in-time joy from purchases, stress shopping never proves a long-lasting cure to stress or depression. Actually it needs to be avoided anyhow. Whether you’re purchasing Christmas presents or buying groceries having the items you need written down will provide you with brightness while shopping. Reward yourself for sticking to your list and you’ll be more likely to commit to it.In addition always think about what you struggle with most financially. Do you spend too much money at the mall? Eating out? Vacations? Make a list of where your money is going and take necessary steps to resist your desire. For example, if you spend too much money on dining out on weekends, stuff your cupboard with food on Friday. So you’ll be more likely to stay in and cook. And you need to give up the need to keep up with others. Everyone’s financial situation is different and comparison may lead to debt and dissatisfaction with what you already have.32.Why does the author mention those numbers in Paragraph 2?A. To support an idea.B. To attract readers.C. To call for actions.D. To introduce a topic.33.Which of the following may help deal with stress shopping?A. Stimulating desires.B. Recording spendings.C. Turning to medicines.D. Comparing with others.34.What is the author’s attitude to stress shopping?A. Unclear.B. Doubtful.C. Objective.D. Negative.35.What is a suitable title for the text?A. Does shopping benefit us?B. More stressed, women or men?C. Should we compare with others?D. Can stress shopping reduce stress?Passage 10(2023秋·山东青岛高三统考期末)“Practice makes perfect” is a very popular expression. However, can we take this saying literally? Many scientific studies have sought to either prove or disprove this idea. One popular theory is that if a person practises for at least 10,000 hours, they will reach “perfection”, or become an expert in their field. This theory was made famous by Malcolm Gladwell in his 2008 best selling book, Outliers: The Story of Success. He mentioned the music group The Beatles and Microsoft co-creator Bill Gates. Although they all seemed to have lots of natural talent, they also clearly put in over 10,000 hours of practice before they became successful.Gladwell’s work was largely based on research done by Anders Ericsson, who argued that Gladwell misinterpreted his research. Firstly, Ericsson stated that 10,000 hours was an average figure. Some people needed far fewer than 10,000 hours, and others many more. More importantly, Ericsson said that just practising a lot was not enough; the type and quality of practice was also essential. He went on to explain the importance of “deliberate practice”, which is when a person practises a specific part of a skill in depth rather than practising a skill as a。

备战中考英语阅读理解专项突破-体裁篇之议论文(含答案)

备战中考英语阅读理解专项突破体裁篇之议论文Passage 1“Life’s a long, long journey,” so we are told, and most of us would not set off on a journey, even a short one, without some ideas of where we wanted to go. Yet many people travel on life’s journey with no sense of direction at all.Setting personal goals can give your life a sense of direction. Goal setting is used by top sports players, successful business people and achievers in all fields. Before you set personal goals, think about what you want to achieve with your life.Try to set goals in some of the following categories (类别):Education—Will you achieve the educational goals after finishing high school? Then create a daily To-Do List of things that you should do today. When a goal is achieved, take the time to enjoy your success. This helps you build the self-confidence.Remember, your goals can be changed as time goes on. B.Goal setting for life.C.The direction of life. D.Ways to achieve goals.Passage 2Nature and culture are often seen as opposite ideas. What belongs to nature cannot be the result of human activities and on the other hand, cultural development is achieved against nature. However, this is not the only opinion on the relationship between nature and culture. Studies in the development of humans suggest that culture, whether taken as an effort against nature or a natural effort, is part of the development of the human species(物种).Several modern writers saw the process of education as a struggle(斗争) against human nature. We are born with wild natures, such as eating and behaving in a disorganized way or acting selfishly. Education uses culture as a way to get us out of our widest natures; it is thanks to culture that the human species could learn to adapt(适应) , progress and raise itself above and beyond other species.Over the past century and a half, however, studies in the history of human development have shown that the formation of culture is part of the biological adaptation. Consider, for example, hunting(打猎) . It seems to be an adaptation, which allowed humans to move into new and different areas, opening up the opportunity to change living habits. At the same time, the development of weapons(武器) is related to that adaptation-from rocks and stones to a set of hunting tools, and from hunting tools to rules relating to the proper use of weapons. Hunting also seems to be responsible for a whole set of bodily abilities, such as balancing on one foot. Just think of how this very simple thing is closely related to dance, a key expression of human culture. It is then clear that biological development and cultural development are closely tied. The transmission of culture seems to be directly related to what’s in our blood. Just as snails carry their shells, so do we bring along our culture. However, culture is also passed on among people of the same time or among people belonging to different populations. We can learn how to make jiaozi even if we were born from Russian parents in Paris just as we can learn how to speak English even if none of our family or friends speak that language.6.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A.Culture belongs to human nature.B.Nature teaches humans how to adapt.C.Humans are supposed to be well organized.D.Education pushes the human species to progress.7.Why does the writer talk about hunting in Paragraph 3?A.To suggest some possible ways of changing living habits.B.To stress the importance of tools in humans’ struggle for life.C.To show how culture develops as humans adapt to the environment.D.To explain why there is a need to call for the proper use of weapons.8.The word “transmission” in Paragraph 4 probably means “________”.A.system B.spread C.start D.spirit9.What is the writer’s opinion on the nature-culture relationship?A.Culture and nature are separate yet balanced.B.Culture depends much on nature to progress.C.Nature and culture are different but connected.D.Nature follows the unwritten rules set by culture.Passage 3From an early age, we were taught that if we wanted to be successful, we had to study hard and get good results at school. In fact, good students may just end up doing jobs they don’t like, and some even lead an unhappy life. Why is it like that?In some parents’ eyes, school grades matter most for their kids. In reality, th ere are many things to consider besides the school subjects, for example, how to be a happy person, what to do to keep healthy, and how to get along well with others. That is to say, school is not just enough ifyou want to have a great life.Doing well in school is different from doing well in life. Studies show that people who failed at school may not end up failing in life. You may have already known that some famous people, like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs, didn’t do very well at school or even failed to finish school. In fact, there are a lot more than just the big shots who are successful in life without finishing school. They seize (抓住) every chance to learn and finally make it to the top.Life is really a long lesson, so long that you can’t define (界定) a person’s success by just one section (部分) of it. If you have already finished school, keep learning because what you have learned at school will never be enough to live a satisfying life. If you are still studying, whether you are good or bad at sc hool, don’t take your school results too seriously as long as you have put your heart into it. Keep learning to make the most of your talents (天赋). That’s how you can live a happy and successful life.10.What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing Paragrap h (段落) One?A.To introduce a topic. B.To give examples. C.To provide a solution.11.In some parents’ eyes, what’s the most important for their kids based on Paragraph Two?A.Being happy. B.Staying healthy. Why does our planet look so blue? It’s blue because waterc overs almost three quarters of the Earth’s surface. Water is not just an important part of our planet. It is an important part of our body, too. More than half of our total body weight is water. Our body loses water whenever we exercise or go to the toile t. That’s why we need to drink plenty of water every day. We drink water. We use it to cook, clean, and carry waste out of our homes. Farmers use it to grow vegetables and crops like rice and corn; factories use it to make products.Since the 1950s, the amount(数量)of water people use has increased by three times. But the water supply(供应)hasn’t. Scientists worry that soon there won’t be enough water for us, as well as for the animals and plants that share our world. What can we do to help? Use water wisely.Having enough water isn’t our only problem. We also need it clean.Right now, ships and factories are putting wastes into seas, rivers and so on. Even chemicals that farmers use are running into rivers and lakes. All this pollution can make the water dangerous to drink. It can also harm fish and other water-living lives. We must do something to stop pollution. It’s the best way to protect our world’s most valuable natural resource(资源).15.How many important areas of water are mentioned in Paragraph 1?A.One. B.Two. C.Three. In Chinese restaurants, there are always plates with pictures of the zodiac animals (十二生肖). For most people in the US, this might be the deepest impression of Chinese culture. One time, we started to laugh after we learned that my aunt is a rat.We laughed because in our culture, rats are animals of very low position. They eat rubbish and cary diseases, so we think they are dirty. Because rats are sneaky (鬼鬼祟祟的), we think of them as untrustworthy. Calling semeone a rat is very rude. It means we cannot trust him or her easily, or we will be cheated. As a kid, this caused me to feel bad for people born in the Year of the Rat. I wondered whether they would be looked down upon by others. I did some research and found that although Chinese people also see rats as dirty animals, they added them to the zodiac for some reasons.Rats are thought to be animals that can bring people wealth. They are also able to give birth to lots of babies, which makes them a symbol of good luck—traditionally, Chinese people prefer to have large families with many children. Rats are believed to have intelligence as well. It is believed that sneaky animals must be clever. So now, I’m entering the new year with a fresh way of looking at rats. Perha ps I need to find a new understanding for other things—-animals, ideas or even people!18.The writer gave ________ reasons to explain why Chinese people add rats to the zodiac. A.two B.three C.four D.five19.From the passage, we know that ________.A.rats are animals of very low position in Chinese cultureB.Chinese children born in the Year of the Rat are looked down uponC.rats are only seen as dirty animals in Chinese cultureD.Chinese people believe rats are sneaky but clever animals20.According to the passage, Phrase ________ can describe someone called a rat in US. But things are different now.Yao Qing, 23, shows the change. She gave up her skirts and cut her hair shorter. Then she started to wear shirts, trousers or clothes in black, white or gray.“I felt more myself that way,” Yao said. Although she remains a “sweet and nice lady” for years, she has been actually fond of outdoor sports like skateboarding and skiing since childhood. “Women are free to show our true personality,” she added, “and skirts and high-heeled shoes are less convenient in daily life.”Another change lies in women’s awareness (意识) of their independence. 34-year-old Xuan Yanmin, for example, tried on her husband’s clothes and put h er photos online. Many people said she looked handsome and cool. Some even wanted to have a try, too. Then she started a discussion “How handsome girls can be in menswear”, which got over 70 million views and 15, 000 comments.“Society is more open now. And our independence is expressed in the new way we dress,” said Xuan. However, stylist Shang Tao suggested that ________. “It’s more important to find the way which suits yourself better. The key is to think about your own advantages and disadvantages and t he environment around you, and choose clothes that can help you feel more confident,” he said.22.”Another change” in Paragraph 4 refers to ________.A.men getting more attention than beforeB.more ladies showing interest in menswearC.ladies cutting their hair shorter than menD.more ladies preferring working at home23.Which of the following can be put in the ________?A.ladies should give up skirts as soon as possibleB.ladies should think about changing their hairstyleC.ladies should think twice before following this styleD.the society should be more open than before24.This passage is written to ________.A.show women have different ideas about sportsB.show growing independence through dressing styleC.compare men with women in different kinds of clothesD.ask girls not to buy dresses and skirts any more25.The passage is written in a/an ________ tone(语气).A.angrуB.sad C.crazy D.seriousPassage 7Born in the 2000s, what do you think of your generation (一代人)? Young, creative, connected, global, smart, maybe good-looking? But what do other people think about your generation? Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, fr iends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (自拍) to become successful in real life—or “IRL”, as you would say?Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many chil dren born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to do everything for them. So today’s young people seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem tobe willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to serve their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school. So if you are one of them born in the 2000s, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. This aims to protect students’ eyesight, make sure they pay more attention to their work and prevent them from becoming so interested in the Internet and online games. But some kids have their own opinions.Xu Xiaohe, a 13-year-old boy from Zhejiang, supports the policy (政策). “In fact, my school has never allowed us to bring our mobile phones,” Xu said. “It’s a distraction from our work. Even adults can’t control themselves, let alone kids like us.”Li Zihan, 13, from Beijing, however, feels differently. “We have grown up with mobile phones. We should be taught self-management skills, as well as learn how to use our phones wisely to help with our studies,” Li said. “This might be the best way to deal with technology in modern times.”For Ge Ziqi, the problem with banning phones has more to do with life outside of school. The 13-year-old Beijinger uses a bike-sharing app every day to travel between her home and school. “Today, phones are used everywhere, from taking a bus to buying food,” she said. “If I can’t take my phone with me, I’ll have to buy my own bicycle.”31.Which of the following is NOT the purpose of the mobile phone ban at school?A.To protect students’ eyesight.B.To encourage students to pay more attention to study.C.To improve students’ self-management.D.To stop students from becoming so interested online games.32.What does the underlined word “distraction” in Paragraph 2 mean?A.干扰B.考验C.分离D.促进33.According to the passage, Li Zihan might agree that ________.A.a mobile phone ban is the best way to deal with technology in modern timesB.a mobile phone mustn’t be brought to schoolC.a mobile phone ban has more to do with life outside of schoolD.kids should be taught self-management skills to use mobile phones34.Where is the passage probably from?A.An e-mail. D.How to use our free time.Passage 9Museums, live music and malls—Chinese cities offer everything that a young person might want. B ut there are many people who don’t have time to enjoy these things. They follow what is called the “996” work schedule—starting work at 9 a.m. and finishing at 9 p.m., six days a week. The “996” work schedule recently became a heated topic of discussion on line after a computer programmer set up a website called “996ICU”. According to the website, the “996” work schedule is unhealthy and could cause people to end up in an intensive care unit (ICU). This work schedule is common at Chinese tech companies like Baidu, Alibaba and Huawei. Most “996” workers do not receive overtime(加班)pay. Many tech industry workers have complained about this schedule. “I worked ‘996’ for nine months,” Zhang said, who used to work as a programmer. “I couldn’t sleep because of thep ressure. So, I gave up the job at last.” However, the bosses of some tech companies think the “996” work schedule is reasonable. Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, said it’s a “huge blessing(福气)” for young workers to work “996”.“If you don’t do ‘996’ when you’re young, when will you?” Ma said. “If you don’t put in more time and energy than others, how will you achieve the success you want?” Many people have questioned Ma’s thinking. In an article in People’s Daily, the writer said, “Valuing hard work does not me an it’s right to force workers to work overtime.”Cui Zhendong, a lawyer, told China Daily that it is against the law to use a compulsory (强制的)“996” work schedule. China’s Labor Law《劳动法》clearly states that workers should workno more than eight hours a day or no more than 44 hours a week.36.The “996” work schedule requires a person to work ________.A.9 hours a day B.18 hours a day C.54 hours a week D.72 hours a week 37.Why do many workers complain about this schedule?A.Because they have no time to go to the hospital.B.Because their health has been influenced.C.Because they don’t get enough pay.D.Because they can’t work well.38.According to the report of People’s Daily, bosses ________.A.worked “996” to achieve their successB.should support the “996” work scheduleC.understand the value of hard work better than workersD.shouldn’t force workers to work overtime39.What do we know from the passage?A.“996ICU” was set up to help workers get overtime pay.B.It is against the law to force workers to work “996”.C.It’s necessary for young workers to work “996”.D.Working “996” is an unusual problem in China.Passage 10If you are a kid who enjoys playing video games, you must have argued with your parents at least once about the impact (影响) of gaming. Your parents might say that video games are bad for you. They may worsen your eyes, lower your academic performance, and could lead to health problems. As a kid, you probably argue that video games allow you to socialize with your friends, improve your coordination (协调) and memory, and even give you a way to make money throughstreaming platforms. Could you both be right? One study of game players showed that 35 percent of high school and college students have missed school or work because of games. Some other studies have shown that playing video games leads to poor concentration (注意力) in school or at work. In my seventh—grade science fair study, elementary and high school kids playing games had lower test accuracy slower reflexes (条件反射), less pain awareness (意识), and lower response times to threatening (造成威胁的) sounds during and after having played video games. On the other hand, a study conducted by Cheryl Olson interviewed 1,000 public school students and found that video games can help kids develop problem—solving skills, make friends, show leadership, and spark creativity. They can also be highly educational, because some games involve problem—solving skills or teach things like history, geography, or culture. So, I bet you're wondering… should I play video games or not? Who is right?I think kids and parents can both win this argument. How? Most of the negative impacts of video games happen when kids play for too long, so play moderately. Here's how to do that.First, talk with your parents and take breaks from your gaming to help around the house or to get some fresh air. Second, try to find video games that are both fun and educational. Third, if you wear a headset to play, take it off every few minutes or leave one ear free so you can hear your surroundings. Fourth, there are also many games that get you up out of your seat. Finally, find some games that you can play with your parents, and you just might surprise them with how enjoyable they are. They may end up having more fun than you! What do you think? Are the good things about video games enough to outweigh the bad?40.What's the main idea of paragraph 1?A.The reasons why playing games is bad for kids.B.Parents and kids hold different opinions towards video games.C.Playing games can cause arguments between parents and their children.D.A story about kids arguing with their parents about playing video games.41.Cheryl Olson's study is mentioned to _______.A.express the author's attitude towards playing video gamesB.present most public school students like playing video gamesC.show the positive impact playing video games can haveD.share the findings of the latest research about video games42.According to the text, what are the disadvantages video games bring to kids?①They may cause harm to kids' eyesight.②They may make kids difficult to focus on study.③They may damage kids' coordination and memory.④They may put kids in danger because of less response time.A.①②③B.①②④C.①③④D.①②③④43.The author is most likely to support ___________.A.playing educational games without breaksB.always wearing a headset when playing gamesC.remaining seated the whole time while playingD.playing active games which parents can take part in44.What would be the best title for the text?A.Is playing video games good or bad?B.How to choose the best video games?C.Why does playing games impact kids, health?D.Are the good things enough to outweigh the bad?参考答案【答案】1.D 2.D 3.A 4.C 5.B【分析】生活是一段漫长的旅程,设定目标可以给我们的生活一个方向感。

There is no doubt that technology has had abig influence on our lives. People from all around the world can now talk to each other almost at once on mobile phones and theInternet. People can easily solve their problems with the help of computers and the world wide web. With this technology, it seems that the world is more connected now than ever before. Even so, there have been worries abouttechnology making people feel lonely and disconnected from others around them.So does this mean that technology makes us lonely? In my opinion, it is hard to say Yes or No.It’s true that humans need communication with each other. If we depend on technology too much to communicate, this can badly impact our mental(心理的) health. For me, technology is a tool. And just like any other kind of tool —like scissors, a pencil or a ruler, for example, it depends on how we use it: in a right way or in a right place. Take social media (社交媒体) as an example. If you only use it to compare yourself with others, you might feel sad and lonely. But if you use it as a tool to connect with friends and family or to start a new community to talk about your hobbies and interests, the loneliness will turn into love and friendship. When you feel lonely after staring at your computer screen all day, maybe you can use that technology to reach out to a reliable (可靠的) friend and invite him or her out for lunch or a coffee.1. According to the writer, technology is________ .A. a toolB. an influenceC. a pair of scissorsD. a way of communication2.

(1) _____________________________ The text is mainly about .(2) What does the author want to tell us most?(3) What can be the best title for the text?(4) What is the main idea of the passage?(5) What can we learn from the last paragraph?【对策】做好此类试题,关键是迅速找准文章或段落的主题句。

另外,议论文在语言表达上经常使用一些有辩论、推理等含义的词汇和句型,如:however, take ⋯for example, thus, therefore, consequently (因此),accordingly (因此),It follows that ⋯(因而),⋯, but it would be far better if we ⋯(如果我们⋯⋯,那会更好),I amo f the opinion that ⋯(我认为⋯⋯)It ' s clear that ⋯等。

高中英语阅读理解汇编之议论文

阅读理解专练议论文5篇Passage 1(2017北京,D)Hollywood’s theory that machines with evil(邪恶的)minds will drive armies of killer robots is just silly. The real problem relates to the possibility that artificial intelligence(AI)may become extremely good at achieving something other than what we really want. In 1960 a well-known mathematician Norbert Wiener, who founded the field of cybernetics(控制论), put it this way:“If we use, to achieve our purposes, a mechanical agency with whose operation we cannot effectively interfere(干预), we had better be quite sure that the purpose put into the machine is the purpose which we really desire.”A machine with a specific purpose has another quality, one that we usually associate with living things:a wish to preserve its own existence. For the machine, this quality is not in-born, nor is it something introduced by humans;it is a logical consequence of the simple fact that the machine cannot achieve its original purpose if it is dead. So if we send out a robot with the single instruction of fetching coffee, it will have a strong desire to secure success by disabling its own off switch or even killing anyone who might interfere with its task. If we are not careful, then, we could face a kind of global chess match against very determined, super intelligent machines whose objectives conflict with our own, with the real world as the chessboard. The possibility of entering into and losing such a match should concentrate the minds of computer scientists. Some researchers argue that we can seal the machines inside a kind of firewall, using them to answer difficult questions but never allowing them to affect the real world. Unfortunately, that plan seems unlikely to work:we have yet to invent a firewall that is secure against ordinary humans, let alone super intelligent machines.Solving the safety problem well enough to move forward in AI seems to be possible but not easy. There are probably decades in which to plan for the arrival of super intelligent machines. But the problem should not be dismissed out of hand, as it has been by some AI researchers. Some argue that humans and machines can coexist aslong as they work in teams—yet that is not possible unless machines share the goals of humans. Others say we can just “switch them off” as if super intelligent machines are too stupid to think of that possibility. Still others think that super intelligent AI will never happen. On September 11,1933, famous physicist Ernest Rutherford stated, with confidence, “Anyone who expects a source of power in the transformation of these atoms is talking moonshine.” However, on September 12,1933, physicist Leo Szilard invented the neutron-induced(中子诱导) nuclear chain reaction.1.Paragraph 1 mainly tells us that artificial intelligence may.A.run out of human controlB.satisfy human’s real desiresmand armies of killer robotsD.work faster than a mathematician2.Machines with specific purposes are associated with living things partly because they might be able to.A.prevent themselves from being destroyedB.achieve their original goals independentlyC.do anything successfully with given ordersD.beat humans in international chess matches3.According to some researchers, we can use firewalls to.A.help super intelligent machines work betterB.be secure against evil human beingsC.keep machines from being harmedD.avoid robots’ affecting the world4.What does the author think of the safety problem of super intelligent machines?A.It will disappear with the development of AI.B.It will get worse with human interference.C.It will be solved but with difficulty.D.It will stay for a decade.Passage 2(2016课标Ⅰ,D)The meaning of silence varies among cultural groups.Silences may be thoughtful, or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say. A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness, uneasiness, or worry. Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable;therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap(间隙)with conversation. Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person’s needs. Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do. Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what may be implied(暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.Other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example, Russian, French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However, Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her. In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder or a person in authority.Nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing. Nurses should recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patient’s silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily. A nursewho understands the healing(治愈)value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures.1.What does the author say about silence in conversations?A.It implies anger.B.It promotes friendship.C.It is culture-specific.D.It is content-based.2.Which of the following people might regard silence as a call for careful thought?A.The Chinese.B.The French.C.The Mexicans.D.The Russians.3.What does the author advise nurses to do about silence?A.Let it continue as the patient pleases.B.Break it while treating patients.C.Evaluate its harm to patients.D.Make use of its healing effects.4.What may be the best title for the text?A.Sound and SilenceB.What It Means to Be SilentC.Silence to Native AmericansD.Speech Is Silver;Silence Is GoldPassage 3(2016浙江,A)“Did you hear what happened to Adam last Friday?” Lindsey whispers to Tori. With her eyes shining, Tori brags, “You bet I did. Sean told me two days ago.”Who are Lindsey and Tori talking about? It just happens to be yours truly, Adam Freedman. I can tell you that what they are saying is (a) not nice and (b) not even true. Still, Lindsey and Tori aren’t very different from moststudents here at Linton High School, including me. Many of our conversations are gossip(闲话). I have noticed three effects of gossip: it can hurt people, it can give gossipers a strange kind of satisfaction, and it can cause social pressures in a group. An important negative effect of gossip is that it can hurt the person being talked about. Usually, gossip spreads information about a topic—breakups, trouble at home, even dropping out—that a person would rather keep secret. The more embarrassing or shameful the secret is, the juicier the gossip it makes. Probably the worst type of gossip is the absolute lie. People often think of gossipers as harmless, but cruel lies can cause pain.If we know that gossip can be harmful, then why do so many of us do it? The answer lies in another effect of gossip: the satisfaction it gives us. Sharing the latest rumor (传言)can make a person feel important because he or she knows something that others don’t. Similarly, hearing the latest rumor can make a person feel like part of the “in group.” In other words, gossip is satisfying because it gives people a sense of belonging or even superiority (优越感).Gossip also can have a third effect: it strengthens unwritten, unspoken rules about how people should act. Professor David Wilson explains that gossip is important in policing behaviors in a group. Translated into high school terms, this means that if everybody you hang around with is laughing at what John wore or what Jane said, then you can bet that wearing or saying something similar will get you the same kind of negative attention. The do’s and don’ts conveyed through gossip will never show up in any student handbook. The effects of gossip vary depending on the situation. The next time you feel the urge to spread the latest news, think about why you want to gossip and what effects your “juicy story” might have.1.The author uses a conversation at the beginning of the passage to.A.introduce a topicB.present an argumentC.describe the charactersD.clarify his writing purpose2.An important negative effect of gossip is that it.A.breaks up relationshipsB.embarrasses the listenerC.spreads information aroundD.causes unpleasant experiences3.In the author’s opinion, many people like to gossip because it.A.gives them a feeling of pleasureB.helps them to make more friendsC.makes them better at telling storiesD.enables them to meet important people4.Professor David Wilson thinks that gossip can.A.provide students with written rulesB.help people watch their won behaviorsC.force schools to improve student handbooksD.attract the police’s attention to group behaviors5.What advice does the author give in the passage?A.Never become a gossiper.B.Stay away from gossipers.C.Don’t let gossip turn into lies.D.Think twice before you gossip.Passage 4(2016北京,D)Why College Is Not HomeThe college years are supposed to be a time for important growth in autonomy(自主性) and the development of adult identity. However, now they are becoming an extended period of adolescence, during which many of today’s students are not shouldered with adult responsibilities. For previous generations, college was a decisive break from parental control;guidance and support needed to come from people of the same age and from within. In the past two decades, however, continued connection with and dependence on family, thanks to cell phones, email and social media, have increased significantly. Some parents go so far as to help with coursework. Instead of promoting the idea of college as a passage from the shelter of the family to autonomy and adult responsibility, universities have given in to the idea that they should provide the same environment as that of the home.To prepare for increased autonomy and responsibility, college needs to be a time of exploration and experimentation. This process involves “trying on” new ways of thinking about oneself both intellectually(在思维方面) and personally. While we should provide “safe spaces” within colleges, we must also make it safe to express opinions and challenge majority views. Intellectual growth and flexibility are fostered by strict debate and questioning.Learning to deal with the social world is equally important. Because a college community(群体) differs from the family, many students will struggle to find a sense of belonging. If students rely on administrators to regulate their social behavior and thinking pattern, they are not facing the challenge of finding an identity within a larger and complex community. Moreover, the tendency for universities to monitor and shape student behavior runs up against another characteristic of young adults:the response to being controlled by their elders. If acceptable social behavior is too strictly defined(规定) and controlled, the insensitive or aggressive behavior that administrators are seeking to minimize may actually be encouraged. It is not surprising that young people are likely to burst out, particularly when there are reasons to do so. Our generation once joined hands and stood firm at times of national emergency. What is lacking today is the conflict between adolescents’ desire for autonomy and their understanding of an unsafe world. Therefo re, there is the desire for their dorms to be replacement homes and not places to experience intellectual growth.Every college discussion about community values, social climate and behavior should include recognition of the developmental importance of student autonomy and self-regulation, of the necessary tension between safety and self-discovery.1.What’s the author’s attitude toward continued parental guidance to college students?A.Sympathetic.B.Disapproving.C.Supportive.D.Neutral.2.The underlined word “passage” in Paragraph 2 means.A.changeB.choiceC.textD.extension3.According to the author, what role should college play?A.To develop a shared identity among students.B.To define and regulate students’ social behavior.C.To provide a safe world without tension for students.D.To foster students’ intellectual and personal development.4.Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the passage?I:Introduction P:Point Sp:Sub-point(次要点)C:ConclusionPassage 5(2014课标Ⅰ,C)A typical lion tamer(驯兽师)in people’s mind is an entertainer holding a whip(鞭)and a chair. The whip gets all of the attention, but it’s mostly for show.In reality,it’s the chair that does the important work. When a lion tamer holds a chair in front of the lion’s face, the lion tries to focus on all four legs of the chair at the same time. With its focus divided, the lion becomes confused and is unsure about what to do next. When faced with so many options, the lion chooses to freeze and wait instead of attacking the man holding the chair. How often do you find yourself in the same position as the lion? How often do you have something you want to achieve(e.g.lose weight, start a business, travel more)—only to end up confused by all of the options in front of you and never make progress? This upsets me to no end because while all the experts are busy debating about which option is best, the people who want to improve their lives are left confused by all of the conflicting information. The end result is that we feel like we can’t focus or that we’re focused on the wrong things, and so we take less action, make less progress, and stay the same when we could be improving. It doesn’t have to be that way.Anytime you find the world waving a chair in your face, remember this:All you need to do is focus on one thing. You just need to get started.Starting before you feel ready is one of the habits of successful people. If you have somewhere you want to go,something you want to accomplish, someone you want to become...take imm ediate action. If you’re clear about where you want to go,the rest of the world will either help you get there or get out of the way.1.Why does the lion tamer use a chair?A.To trick the lion.B.To show off his skills.C.To get ready for a fight.D.To entertain the audience.2.In what sense are people similar to a lion facing a chair?A.They feel puzzled over choices.B.They hold on to the wrong things.C.They find it hard to make changes.D.They have to do something for show.3.What is the author’s a ttitude towards the experts mentioned in Paragraph 3?A.Tolerant.B.Doubtful.C.Respectful.D.Supportive.4.When the world is “waving a chair in your face”,you’re advised to .A.wait for a better chanceB.break your old habitsC.make a quick decisionD.ask for clear guidance答案全解全析Passage 1[语篇解读]本文为议论文。

初三议论文写作指导英语阅读理解30题

初三议论文写作指导英语阅读理解30题1<背景文章>Reading plays a crucial role in improving writing skills, especially for junior high school students in grade three. Firstly, reading is an excellent way to accumulate vocabulary. When we read various English materials such as English novels, newspapers, and magazines, we encounter a large number of new words. Through continuous reading, we can gradually understand the meaning of these words in different contexts and remember them more effectively. For example, in a well - written novel, the author may use some vivid and precise words to describe characters or scenes. By reading these descriptions, we not only learn new words but also understand how to use them appropriately.Secondly, reading helps us with grammar understanding. In English reading materials, we can see how different grammar rules are applied in real - life sentences. It is much easier to understand grammar in context than just learning grammar rules from textbooks. For instance, we can observe the use of tenses, sentence structures, and prepositions in a natural way. This helps us internalize grammar knowledge and use it correctly in our writing. Finally, reading can expand our thinking and provide more ideas forwriting. Different books and articles cover a wide range of topics, from science and technology to culture and history. Reading these materials exposes us to diverse viewpoints and ways of thinking. When we write, we can draw on these ideas, making our writing more comprehensive and interesting. In conclusion, reading is an indispensable part of improving writing skills for junior high school students in grade three.1. <问题1>What is the first benefit of reading for writing mentioned in the article?A.
