根据英语课程标准和本堂课的内容设置以及八年级学生的特点，我是这样设计本课的：首先播放歌曲视频Dreamitpossible，用以调动学生的兴趣，然后用本首歌曲的歌手图片张靓颖进行导入，通过对张靓颖不同时期的照片进行比较，从而呈现usedto的用法。之后，引导学生了解张靓颖的成长经历，并同时学习dealwith,daretodo,tonsof,private等新词，这样不仅能激发学生的学习兴趣和参与热情，也使教学环节之间的衔接十分自然，并为文本解读扫清障碍，做好铺垫。并在阅读阶段设计预测、略读、细读等多种活动，让学生运用阅读策略进行文本解读。在读后阶段，有效设计复述课文及采访等活动，更深层次地理解和巩固文本，同时，在运用目标语言的基础上，增加语言的实用性，以读促说，提高学生参与课堂的广度和深度。之后的小组活动探讨如何成功的话题，鼓励学生乐观面对生活中的挫折打击，永不放弃，努力追求成功，使学生通过课堂的学习来运用到实际生活中去，进行了适当的情感教育。而最后的课后作业的分层设计，以学生为本，考虑到不同层次的学生，体现作业的有效性。
通过对图片和标题的解读，有效的帮助学生对文本进行预测。

本堂课为九年级第四单元第二课时阅读课，而所教授的学生为八年级下学期学生，虽然在学识上有一定的差距，但学生对于usedto已经在八年级教材中有所涉及与了解，尽管对于八年级学生已有的知识和技能水平，本篇阅读材料生词偏多，但胜在语言简洁，文章内涵丰富，能够轻易抓住学生的阅读兴趣和注意力，为了使学生能够读懂文本中主人公转变的过程以及对期待成功的年轻人的建设性建议，教师对教学目标的设计和教学活动的安排做到由表及里、由浅入深、丝丝入扣，使学生在教师的引领下能够感受主人公为追求梦想所做的努力，感知主人公对成功的解读。
