(2016·潍坊第一中学检测)A glass a day keeps obesity at bay.Alcohol has

always been thought to cause weight gain because of its high sugar content, but new

research suggests a glass a day could form part of a diet.Looking at past

studies, they found that while heavy drinkers do put on weight;those who drink in

moderation can actually lose weight.

A spokesman for the research team at Navarro University in Spain says,“Light to moderate alcohol intake, especially of wine, may be more likely to protect against, rather than

promote, weight gain.”The International Scientific Forum on Alcohol Research reviewed the findings and

agreed with most of the conclusions, particularly that current data do not clearly indicate if moderate drinking increases weight. 2 Boston University’s Dr.Harvey Finkel found that the biologic mechanisms(生物学机制) relating

alcohol to changes in body weight are not properly understood. His team pointed out the strong protective

effects of moderate drinking on the risk of getting conditions like diabetes(糖尿病),which relate to

increasing obesity. Some studies suggest that even very obese people may be at lower risk of diabetes if

they are moderate drinkers.

The group says alcohol provides calories that are quickly absorbed into the body and are not stored in

fat,and that this process could explain the differences in its effects from those of other foods. They agree

that future research should be directed towards assessing the roles of different types of alcoholic drinks, taking into consideration drinking patterns and including the past tendency of participants to gain weight.

For now there is little evidence that consuming small to moderate amounts of alcohol on a regular

basis increases one’s risk of becoming obese. What’s more,a study three years ago suggested that

resveratrol,a compound present in grapes and red wine, destroys fat cells.

(2019·东北三省四市模拟)On April 14th, 2019, my entire life changed in an instant. One

moment I was joyfully riding through the sunshine. The next moment, metal, flesh and bones were

spreading against the pavement in a thunderous crash. Another cyclist, biking carelessly, had cut

me off and sent me supermanning toward oncoming traffic.

As if to symbolize the accident that had hit my life, another disaster also occurred on April

14th, 2019. It cost the airline industry $ 1.7 billion. Ten million travelers were stuck for days.

Economics all over the world were disturbed. This was the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull, one of

Iceland’s many volcanoes.

However, volcanoes are not all bad. In fact, they are necessary. They are responsible for the

I had the honour of being elected chief of my tribe(部落).With the title came great responsibility. It was my job to

make peace with the Maori Tamaki tribe, whose village we visited.

Their soldiers jumped from a canoe and faced us down with fierce

My “tribe” was my New Zealand coach tour group, who had forced me into being

their leader. We had been warned that the ceremony was a serious occasion and that

to laugh or even smile would be considered rude to the Tamaki. After that it was

nonstop fun as they demonstrated their ancient customs and I received instruction

dancing to my favorite songs, smiling and laughing with my friends

and family. But as far back as second grade,I noticed a “darkness”

about me.I didn’t enjoy participating in many things.

In middle school, things in my life began to get even worse.I

began withdrawing from everything I once enjoyed.I was always tired.Everything was

horrible. Finally, midway through eighth grade,I was told I had a chemical imbalance, diagnosed(诊断)with clinical depression, and had to take medicine. It took months

for me to feel the effects of the medicine.

When I began to feel happy again is when I realized that I had to take the

responsibility for getting better myself, rather than relying on medicine.Aristotle
