During recess thatday, I went over and introduced myself. "Hi Jake, I'm Tommy. Do you want to be friends?" I asked. Jake just kind of looked at me with his big blue eyes and nodded his head yes. And just like that, a lifelong friendship was born!From that day on, we were absolutely inseparable. We did everything together - played on the same t-ball team, went to each other's birthday parties, had sleepovers all the time. My mom says Jake was like another son to her because he was always over at our house. We'd make forts out of bedsheets and couch cushions, pretending we were brave explorers discovering new lands. We'd chase after lightning bugs at night, trying to catch them and keep them in jars as pets. My backyard was our own personal playground and magical kingdom of endless adventures.One of my favorite memories was when we tried to start our very own lemonade business. We spent weeks planning it out and making signs. We used my mom's good patio furniture as our "store" and set up a little stand with a hand-written menu and everything. Even though Jake and I may disagree sometimes, at the end of the day he's still my number one best friend. We've been through so much together over the years. And when Jake fell off his bike last year and broke his arm, I was there by his side to keep him company and sign his cast.
