University Student Recreation Centre Database Students can only use the centre if they have paid their recreation fees in full. The centre will also allow a faculty to purchase a membership as well. Members are allowed to check out sports equipment such as basketballs, softball bats and balls, tennis rackets, badminton rackets and table tennis rackets that can be used at the facility. When the members check out equipment, an equipment-issue form is completed listing the membership number and equipment being used. This form must list at least one piece of equipment in order to be retained in the file. Otherwise it is discarded. A member of staff is employed to monitor the checkout and the use of the sporting equipment. Every employee is assigned to one of two departments: maintenance or general staff. The centre has 10 tennis courts. These courts may be reserved up to one week in advance. Reservations can be made via the equipment checkout window. The centre also operates a small accessory shop where some sporting equipment and clothing is sold. The sporting goods include tennis balls, table tennis balls, bandages, etc. Sportswear bearing the university emblem and mascot as well as a limited assortment of some name-brand sportswear are sold. Finally, the centre sponsors a limited number of classes in officiating various sports . A general rule is that instructors often teach in more than one sport but there is never more than one class offered in a particular sport.

Introduction
A random variable de…ned on a probability space (Ω, F , P) is a function x : Ω ! X taking values in a second measure space (X, B(X)). X is an Euclidean space, where B(X) is the smallest σ-algebra that contains all open sets of X.

■ This course will focus on the use of computers to solve financial problems.
■ European call/put ■ American call/put ■ Implementation in VBA
Course Outline
■ Log-normal distributions:
· Some of the most famous models (e.e. Black-Scholes) have used the assumption that asset prices are lognormally distributed
· The model then combines implied market returns with investor beliefs to provide optimal portfolio weights fo that investor
· Bayes theorem · Reverse optimisation
■ Skewness ■ Kurtosis ■ Mixed normal distributions

– Money markets, through which lenders and borrowers are introduced; – Capital markets, through which lenders and borrowers are also introduced; – Derivatives markets, which facilitate the transference of risk between parties and, in doing so, support the money and capital markets; and, – Foreign exchange markets, which facilitate international trade and, in doing so, also support the money and capital markets.
2.3 The Flow of Funds in Financial Markets
Lenders: Have surplus funds and lend these funds to others via the financial markets. Examples include: Individuals (Foreign Domestic); Companies (Foreign Domestic); and, Governments (Foreign Domestic) and and and Borrowers: Have deficit funds and obtain funding from lenders via the financial markets. Examples include: Individuals (Foreign and Domestic); Companies (Foreign and Domestic); and, Governments (Foreign and Domestic)
• Also need to enrol in a tutorial.
• Tutorials start next week! • There is no quiz next week, however, please see outline for details regarding quizzes.
– The bringing together of lenders and borrowers, aiding in the transfer of funds from people who wish to lend them to people who wish to borrow them (capital raising); – The transference of risk between parties; and, – International trade. The financial markets, the institutions participating in these markets and the instruments traded in the markets are collectively referred to as the financial system.
2.4 Types of Financial Markets
It is important to understand that the range of financial instruments available to borrowers and lenders are not traded within a single market. 1. Course Overview (Continued)
Diversification
Financial market participants want to make as much money as possible with the least risk. To reduce risk, market participants can diversify. If everyone diversifies, this tells us something about how assets are priced: It tells us the return required for a given level of risk.
– The Time Value of Money; – Diversification; and, – Arbitrage.
1. Course Overview (Continued)
The Time Value of Money
In studying the time value of money, we will see it forms the basis for all asset valuations. In this course, we will study the following aspects of the time value of money:

– Tutorial Quizzes (15%) – Mid-Semester Exam (25% or 0%)
• Optional and redeemable • HOPEFULLY to be held in Week 7 (more information relating to this will be discussed later in the term)
2.1 Lenders
The main characteristics of lenders can be summarized as follows:
– Lenders have more than they wish to consume now; – Lenders loan funds that are excess to their consumption to other market participants (ie to borrowers); and, – In exchange for loaning their excess funds to others, lenders receive a positive rate of return on these funds from the people they lend to.
2.2 Borrowers
The main characteristics of borrowers can be summarized as follows:
– Borrowers have less than they want to consume or invest now; – Borrowers borrow funds that are required to meet their current consumption or investment requirements; and, – In exchange for borrowing the excess funds of lenders, borrowers pay a positive rate of return on these funds to the people they lend from.
2. What are Financial Markets?
A financial market is a mechanism that facilitates the purchase and sale (“trading”) of financial instruments including equity, debt instruments, derivatives and foreign currencies. The main roles of financial markets include:
